  • How to replace the headlight switch assembly on the Dodge Ram Van late 1990s to early 2000s model (all dual airbag Ram van models prior to the Sprinter series). This dash configuration was used in camper/RV conversions up to 2005. The switches will work intermittently prior to failure and are not internally repairable. The part will cost $25-$55 depending on where you shop. It is not recommended to use a used/rebuilt part for this repair.

I just replaced my headlight switch on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 van - it took me 20 minutes and cost me $37. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO! You saved me a few hundred bucks AND I actually feel competent since I'm not a car guy yet I successfully performed an automotive repair. Best. Day. Ever!

Wow. Your video showed me and my 9 year old daughter exactly how to replace our worn out switch on our 98 Dodge Ram Van. Thank you so much for your generous informational video! Kindest regards and blessings.

Big thanks. My old man's 2000 1500 was having trouble with the lights. He was talking about taking it in to a car electrician for hell knows how much. I looked up the part you used in the video, and with 15 minutes of some work, no experience and about 30 American I had the lights working. Good video.

I forgot to disconnect the neg cable and blew a 20 amp fuse. No biggie, but yeah, learned a lesson. Everything works and this video helped in that I was a bit nervous to try, but had it down in less than 45 min. Thanks for the vid it helped a lot!

My internet connection is too slow but I can tell what I mostly needed you don't cover.
That being how to get to the switch?
    I'm also working on my 98 dodge 4X4 P/U truck 2500.
So the dash is actually not the same either but you came up with my search.
Thanks for showing what you do.
    Namaste

You can also turn it left and right. What is the switch for when you turn it left and right?
Pulling it out is to turn headlights on and off obviously

Probably, that is exactly what was going on before my switch totally went bad.

It is a common wear component that is pretty complex inside.

The earlier models will be very similar, but this tutorial mainly covers those models with the dual airbag dash, since those changes were incorporated I think partway through early 1997, but were labeled as 1998 models.
