The Wisecrack Companion to __________.
In all honesty that seems like too much. Wisecrack should be more stylish than other channels that can give you lists. Wisecrack is supposed to make you think, not do the thinking for you. I appreciate this episode giving me a lot of new things to watch that would allow me to think, but would be better for the channel's integrity if a flat out reference list were given to someplace like the Film Theory channel.
Omfg, we just need more Rick and Morty! FUCKING HELL!!!!!
André de Andrade, next year we will get season 3 ☺️😁😁
Connor97 yes I'm so excited!!
Connor97 I hope they have like 20 seasons. Or even more.

In the episode The Ricks must be crazy I've been wondering if when they get stranded in the mini universe that the scientist Zeep Zanflorp created is that a reference to the 1985 film "Enemy Mine"? It just really reminded me of it for some reason.
"Needful Things" is obviously a direct reference to the 1991 Steven King novel, but the store itself (along with an offhand comment directly referencing it by Rick while arguing with the Devil) also pays homage to the 1987 television show Friday The 13th: The Series en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th:_The_Series (completely unrelated to the movie series featuring Jason Voorhees)
The rough plot synopsis basically centers around two people inheriting an antique store from their uncle, and immediately selling off the entire inventory without realizing that every item in the store has been cursed by the Devil, then needing to go about reclaiming all of the sold off items one episode at a time. Most of the objects confer an ironic benefit and a curse simultaneously, like a scalpel that can heal any injury provided it's used to kill somebody else first, etc.
The show actually pre-dates the Steven King novel, and was syndicated on the SciFi channel a long time ago, was a personal favorite when I was young.
Rick and Morty has some exceedingly clever obscure little references like this!

Daniel Landers please
Daniel Landers Will the philosophy be about why do people like this show?
PLease
The visual references in this video is excellent. Really high production value. So much work is put in to finding all those clips. One of the best I've seen
Btw, "something wicked this was comes" is originally from William Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'.
Jack Dog in the forward of the book Bradbury quotes the dialogue from the play.....
the weird sisters said it
Yes but the episode is based off the book.
Also, it is in the lyrics of the song 'double trouble' in Harry Potter.
"Somebodys gonna get laid in collage."
When's Philosophy of Mr. Robot coming?
Marcus Carcus it already came
it was inspiration not philosophy
It'll probably be ready in the new year, but we're starting to edit it next week. :)

Wisecrack make more 👍🏿👍🏿
Unity wasnt really Rick's girlfriend, if anything it was his genderless significant other
yeah, an It-friend
Magalí Iglesias Barenys He literally said they dated
Gaming Gamer that wasn't their point
Right, an enslaving hive-mind is beyond gender.
so your saying they just assumed unitys gender? TRIGGERED
In "Resistance is Futile" you missed one very big reference. At 3:50 that scene is from the (ahem) book "A Wrinkle in Time". Yes they made it into a movie finally but no one knows it. The Thing pales in comparison to the horror of what was in that children's book.
"Correction.. Invasion of the Body Snatchers"
Such a great book.
First thing I noticed when i saw that episode!
I've always wondered, with their drive to smash mysticism and various parts of childhood optimisim
Will Rick and Morty ever tackle superheroes
Spyro Fan I'd like that.

I think the reason Rick and Morty is so successful is that it doesn't so much as function to demystify the modern world (though, it clearly does a great deal of that), but cuts through the bullshit of both fantasy and idealism. By doing so, the show communicates sympathy through cynicism (catharsis). That is to say, the reason why I hate Disney movies is because they always end up concluding with the bullshit sentiment of happily ever after--whereas my life fucking blows. The incongruity between the fantasy I have been spoonfed as a child, and the reality I experience as an adult is infuriating. Morty kind of serves as the former feeling, and Rick as the latter--when I was a boy I thought life would constantly get better as I aged, when in reality I have become worn by, and tired of living life, and consequently become a borderline alcoholic. Rick and Morty is enjoyable to me in this way because serves as a form of catharsis.
👍
Well said< kudos!!!
Bryce yes you're spot on!
big words, small penis.
Basically: Metamodernism :D
“You will walk when it is time to walk” is a reference to Shawshank redemption. “You will eat when it is time to eat”
Summed up all movies Wisecrack mentioned in this video, so it would me much easier to find certain movie You want to watch.
I'll definitely watch some movies from this list, I hope you'll do it as well.

Do it's always sunny in Philadelphia and talk about Dennis being a serial killer
Or mac being gay
Emilio Estrada or how Dennis, Mac, and Dee see themselves as more than who they really are because they are always drunk. Charlie and Frank are the same in everyone's eyes because they have accepted themselves as weirdos
I love how in the end of the episode, the devil starts playing the violin, which is a reference to Paganini that was considered the devil itself for being so good at the violin
Hey Jared, Javier here, from Honduras, a fan of wisecrack. This kind of format works for you because you add to your thought to and categorize each of the reference, it's very easy to follow, very interesting to listen, and over all fun to Watch. Please continue sharing your thoughts and knowledge about interesting stuff. And if I may give an advice I would love to hear the philosophy on trending topics around the world. You already have a fan here, I would just love to hear that, you could even do it in the podcast. Thank you!
8:13 how dare you saying Rick Sanchez made a mistake! it wasn't him who put more batteries in the helmet
good point!
Well, he shouldn't have made it easy for Snowball to open the battery slot.
LE0NSKA ricks not perfect, he's made mistakes. remember rick potion #9?
alexzz1234 wasn't it jerry who put extra batteries firs,t to make snowball smart enough to figure that out?
mrtannzr You can shut the hell up, or I can shit on your floor.
Can you do the philosophy of death note, please?
The only anime I have seen.

One of the first anime I have seen.
is it good?
Overall it's good. It starts out amazing but slowly declines after about episode 25...
I'd recommend it though
This was a really really good episode, I would love more things. I need references so I know what movies or shows they come from so I can go watch them, glad y'all did this
wisecrack rules, keep up the good work. loved the format and would like to see even more formats :D
Do a Philosophy of Mr. Robot! Please

BIRD PERSON YOU HAVE COME BACK TO US!!!!!!!
I swear Wisecrack are obsessed with Ricky and Morty haha
More please it's nice to get references that are always fun to discover or to look back into.
more rick and morty
Bless you my son.
OrangeT3am Yeah like anything from rick and Morty
Whatever format it takes to give us more Rick and Morty has my vote!!!
best kind of format i've seen for a rick and morty youtube episode, good job man
Thank you! It's been bugging me that Rick and Morty is basically just all references, but now I see what they're doing more clearly and completely love it again.
Rick & Morty is the best show ever made. Please no, don't argue about it.
Good video.
Its a good show, but its not the best, it all depends on tastes.
I would say it's certainly the best western animated series. What do you suppose is the best of all shows?
Honestly i dont think we can have a "best show" but i would say Breaking Bad is pretty good, i agree with you with being the best western animated series, but its not perfect, i think Rick and Morty needs more character development, i just finished Bojack Horseman and it turned out to be pretty good, the character development on that show actually made me feel empathy for the characters, a thing that i feel that Rick and Morty could do better, the character development in Rick and Morty is nice, but its nowhere near Bojack Horse, im not saying BJ is better, but i think it could be better.
PS: Rick and Morty is my favorite show
BothBoat ah yeah, bojack was really good, and i agree their character development was great. As a science major though, i guess i have a huge soft spot for Rick and Morty, though Breaking Bad certainly satisfies that criteria too. It may just be because i saw BB so long ago that i prefer R&M, but they were both great.
I mean Rick and Morty is still a gem.
Really well crafted and well thought.
Awesome episode... Will there be a Philosophy of Black Mirror episode??
We're starting on it. Such a good show!
and this could fit the current style cause every episode has its own genre references
amazing!
Have you ever considered doing a philosophy Dexter? that show has plenty of stuff mixed in it. morals ethics religion ect
That's an easy one. The philosophy of black mirror as a whole is people are stupid, adding technology into the mix just makes them more dangerous. Which I think is spot on!
Fantastic breakdown. Would definitely be interested in seeing more material like this! Thanks :D
This video was incredible!! Please do more of these.
Do one for Stranger Things! And do a Philosophy of Black Mirror!
About 'Invasion of the Bodysnatchers' I disagree that's mainly about Communism, I think it's more of a satirical look on McCarthyism. During the time the film was made, the US was terrified of Communism secretly infiltrating the states. 'The Reds under the beds', this of course lead to a lot of people being accused of being communist. Especially those who were move left wing. So I feel the film is pointing out the hypocrisy. The US was so scared of being overtaken by communist, but they also would go after any one who went against the American way of life. The Nuclear family, consumerism etc. Just my opinion on it.
McCarthisym wasn't right, and eventually failed. How is it right to arrest someone for having left wing political views, or for the government to have a say in what films can and can't do. Go against anyone who doesn't conform to the ideal way of life: i.e the nuclear family. Hence the hypocrisy, and the satire I read in the film. The famous "They're here" sequence seems very similar to McCarthy first speech way he accused many government officials of being Communist, without any proof?
Always fun to watch Rick and Morty videos from you guys!!
Great video, mate! Loads of references I never realized and I'm somewhat ashamed I've never noticed how 'Snowball' is a reference to Animal Farm. Very well done!
One thing I have to disargeewith you, though, is in your interpatation. The show has plenty of fun wuth demistifying traditionally romantic aspects, but it does not "trivialize everything." Rick putting the colar on Morty and saying "I'm okay with this" or him going to the jail for his family in the last episode of the second season is full of traditional values and there's nothing wrong with this. I know positivist/physicalist or someties nihlistic or sometimes Schoppenhauerian interpratations are popular nowadays, but to say Rick and Morty is exclusevely like that seem to me to be a mistake. If anything, it is full of both of our titural charactrs trying to live traditionally ethical life amidst what seems to be a chaotic and senseless universe. I find it very toucing and inspiring at times.
I agree. And it is not only that, it also "remystifies" things again to a certain extend, because even though everything can be explained with science, the universe is so big and senseless that it is essensially a great, endless, mysterious adventure after all, just as the human psyche. But maybe I'm going too far with that.
DeineLieblingsvideos
Indeed, I am very much opposed to the view that science takes away wonder and even some bit of mysticism fron everything. Science may indeed demistify, but certain emotions that drove mysticism in all ages drive science as well. One of them is sense of weonder and science, in my humble view, brings more wonder than any other field.
On a sidenote, one demystifying effect I love in the show was in the episode of micro-verses when Morty becomes the leader of some native tribe in one ofv the microverses. He takes Rick and the other guy to some ancient tree and all sings point to the fact that he will give them a lecture on how natural things are better than man-made ones, but no! "These people are savages, they kill every third newnborn because they think it brings rain" :D Laughed my ass of that one and it resonated really well with me, because I've always disliked Rousseau's bullshit :D
Rick is an interesting character, because he has the means to basically do whatever her wants to do and the only thing holding him back, is his attachment to his loved ones.
Those sentiments are broken by Rick on many occasion and he always talks so much about how little he cares, but a part of him simply can't turn it off. (season 2's buildup to the final episode was flawless)
DeineLieblingsvideos "remystifies". I like that.
This is awesome defiantly want to see more!
I liked this new style of video. It's straightforward and it's exciting.
Wish I could like this video more than once! I love this new video format; please, keep them coming. :)
Absolutely loved this format!
I would love to see Philosophy of House MD
Doesn't that make you gay?
I love this channel! Greetings from Brazil.
Loved it! Addition: You could mention the 2009 family guy episode "Road to Multiverse", where Brian and Stewie end up in a parallel universe, where the roles of men and dogs are reversed
Enjoyed the new format! I don't always catch all the references so this is like a cheat sheet of references for my favorite show!
Keeping the Rick and morty train rolling because there always your most viewed vids (I ain't complaining like I love them )
Good format. Not just some top 5 list.
loved this new setup! especially love the retro-eletro music!

I'm totally cool with a references show on this channel. Awesome.
I absolutely love this this channel! You guys have a show where you analyze paintings and art!
Wow, finally! This seem to be the only youtube Video actually getting the relevant and interesting references. AND while you are at it, you also explain them. That is humbling and flattering.
Isn't "something wicked this way comes" a Shakespeare quote? I could be mistaken
If someone legitimately doesn't like Rick & Morty, they are dead to me.
I knew someone who did'nt like Rick & Morty, they are now dead in this reality.
Spider Jeranimo Uhhh spider....? did you....did you.... kill them?....
i dont like, its boring and it makes me fall sleep. sorry
dead cant speak
Jake Andrews well i hate the cheap and ugly animation, the toilet humor, the gratuitous obscenities and the abundance of disgusting stuff ( around ricks mouth... unity using of all things vomit as a means of propagation).... you get the idea.
this was fantastic! you must make more!!!
Loved the video!!! Please make more!!
New format is cool. Now we get to see not only the underlying philosophy of a character, but also the philosofical underpinnings the show's creators had in mind when creating episodes. Keep it up guys, one of the best channels on CZcams!
Philosophy of Fantastic Mr Fox!
My favorite movie

Do the Philosophy of Community!!
Love this format, and I love any discussion of Rick and Morty. Some of these were obvious, but I definitely never picked up on the Zardof one. I actually met Justin at an event in LA once. Smart, humble guy who's only like my age. Damn!
Great video! Really enjoyed watching!
Could you guys do a "Philosophy of THE OFFICE'? Preferably the US version.
Really a lot of interesting stuff going on in that show that I think could use some exploration.
I liked it - but - *BELCH* - uh, I am not sure if it was the format or the uh.... *burp* ... subject matter. I mean, com'on Morty, you know we'd watch Rick and Morty videos all day. It's not a statistically significant test.
That was amazing. Great insight, I appreciate this show more.
This was good! Would sure like to see more!
While 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' is a fantastic film; and there's nothing wrong with reading into films to find hidden meaning; it's interesting that the original creators of the film did not intentionally make it as an allegory for communism invading and destroying individualism. Walter Mirisch who supervised the production of the film said; "from personal knowledge, neither Walter Wanger nor Don Siegel, who directed it, nor Dan Mainwaring, who wrote the script nor original author Jack Finney, nor myself saw it as anything other than a thriller, pure and simple".
Great video though, I love Rick and Morty and really enjoy your videos discussing it!
Connor Roddie that's really what post modernism is at the end of the day, works of arts developed with little to no meaning behind them and letting the audience project whatever they want unto it.
I like it. I want to see more.
This is an awesome format, especially since so much stuff is based off of reference nowadays. I'd love to see more analyses like this
This was great! Thank you. Do more like it please!
I have a hunch that Jared may be slightly obsessed with Rick & Morty...
btw, this format is awesome!
Lol. Mat Pat and Wisecrack keep promoting each other
Great job! Hope to see more of these kinds of videos in the future!
love this, super interesting! I didn't realize all the references and meanings
