The 1994 Australian Grand Prix (formally the LIX Adelaide Australian Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on 13 November 1994 at the Adelaide Street Circuit. It was the sixteenth and final race of the 1994 Formula One World Championship. The 81-lap race was won by Nigel Mansell driving for the Williams team after starting from pole position. Gerhard Berger finished second in a Ferrari car with Martin Brundle third for the McLaren team.
The race is remembered, besides being the closing of one of the most tragic seasons in the history of the category, also for an incident involving the two title contenders Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher which forced both to retire and resulted in Schumacher winning the World Drivers' Championship. Also notable was the last appearance in a Formula One Grand Prix of the first incarnation of Team Lotus, previously seven-time Constructors' Champions. It was also the 31st and last Grand Prix victory of Nigel Mansell's Formula One career. As of 2023, this was the last Formula One race where the number of entrants exceeded the number of places on the starting grid. This would also prove to be the last Grand Prix for Christian Fittipaldi, Franck Lagorce, Michele Alboreto, Hideki Noda, David Brabham, JJ Lehto, and Paul Belmondo, and the first Grand Prix for Jean-Denis Délétraz.

Mansell was 41 actually. I hope Alonso will get a win and become the oldest race winner since 1970. If he wins in July 2025 or later, he'd even become the oldest winner since 1957.

Great work. Another small correction: the three letters for Michael were SCH initially. The change to MSC was necessary when his brother Ralf came into F1. This was later, in 1997 i think.

To be fair Damon Hill (when he was tuned in) was a good driver; Race at Japan in the wet that year was awesome and I love the sound of those V10's ( Think Ferrari's had V12's - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_412_T1)

I never liked how Schumacher won this championship but well, that season was controversial from start to finish. 5:39 I didn't remember this Hakkinen accident.

Aside from the Bentton engine mistake. I feel like you should try to use period-correct logos for the teams that still exists as well. Feels weird to see modern McLaren and Williams logos coupled with the old ones.

Thats because back personal numbers didnt exist. I dont remember if 1994 already had the 'numbers assigned based on last season WCC' or if it still had the old system where numbers were assigned way back in the 70s and simply whenever someone won the WDC they would swap #1 and #2 with the team of the previous WDC which would then use the old numbers of the new champion.
However, only the reigning champion could use #1, so if he retired or left F1 after winning the WDC, the team would use #0 and #2 instead. Since Prost retired in 1993, Williams had to use #0.
@@asyedan5172 Yeah also Hill had #0 a year before because of Mansell's first retirement. For me as a 6 year old at the time the number 0 was so odd and awesome it turned me into Hill fan till the end of his careere.

This race was one of the best in my opinion it was also the last race of the '94 season which we lost 2 drivers R.I.P Ayrton Senna And Roland Ratzenberger (Senna died at the track and ratzenberger died on the hospital at imola)

@@nosquidsid4680sorry man, but no way. Schumacher was perfect on the road in 94, apart from this incident. He knew exactly what he was doing. Cut Hill off to the left aggressively and desperately, trap him in to the right when he's going much faster, then crunch him. His right rear was broken - you can see this in this footage. Calculated. Blaming this incident on Hill is ridiculous. Schumacher deserved the championship for sure, but was very lucky to get away with this
Hahaha these excuses, honestly! Schumacher let himself down so many times with this nonsense, did the exact same thing with Villeneuve only 2 years later. Meanwhile Senna and Prost are taking turns yeeting each other for the championship! They're all undoubtedly some of the best F1 drivers of all time, but we have to acknowledge they also did some pretty abhorrent things over the course of their careers! Whether it was the 'red mist' or a calculated act of villainy it's still not an ok thing to do!

Ah yes....the days when V8s, V10s and V12s shared the tarmac...cars barely weighed 1100lbs (they're at an astronomical 1800lbs now)...and cars actually passed without the need of DRS. These where the days

Great work, this shows how the great moments in F1 history would be if there were more information available onscreen.
One thing I always feel is lacking, though, is coverage of the whole field in the left-hand timing tower. There were 26 cars in the field, not 20. That said, I know squeezing all 26 in the same screen wouldn't be practical for all the info being shown, but what about doing something like a rolling ticker for the bottom positions? Like, top 14 stay still, but P15 on down rotate, like NBC does with IndyCar. Just an idea.
Schumacher's car was clearly ruined by that initial crash, so crashing into Hill was his only hope.

Benetton used ford engines and was Ford's team works between 1987 and 1994.
MSc would not have done that to Ayrton had he still been there.

Yeah, love the old graphics and the enthusiasm and love of the sport by Murray Walker. The South Australians were bitter about losing the race to Victoria, but it was inevitable after seeing this and being reminded of how dangerous unsafe this track was.

Seeing Hakkinen and Brundle with the modern Mclaren logo is pure visual hopium.
I know a lot of people are crying, claiming MSC should not have turned to the right ...and it was his fault etc. They ignore that He was penalised in Silverstone for ignoring the Penality he had taken, and the punishment was not only disqualification from his 2nd position but also banning him from 2 other races. Which is a too hefty punishment if you just consider that he did not participate in Silverstone. And without this ridiculous punishment he could have sealed the world champion with 2 races to go.

Michael Schumacher made a driver error and spun out, Hill got past and has a great race victory, winning his first World Champion title, a great tribute to his father, his late team mate, but especially, to his great talent, his will, and sport ethics. Michael Schumacher had a great season, that will be more remembered by the cheating refueling system that resulted in Benetton losing their points, and by Schumacher's suspension following his first race tactics.
