    11:43 - it's so funny how Martin mentions this as I've always thought the same. Lots of drivers drove poorly that whole weekend- Imola 2006 was weird in that sense.
    Anyways, we should thank Kimi Raikkonen's unreliable McLaren for the 2005 duel. It would have been an afterthought otherwise.

    Miss this type of racing, a driver defending for his life. DRS has killed this type of action, DRS would have rendered both these races down to as easy pass.
    Shame these races were not on the current imola layout without the final chicane.

    • @speedbird868
      @speedbird868 Před 2 lety +15

      That is true but with the amount of dirty air last gen cars were producing made the DRS very important tool. But with the new gen cars if they are able to solve that dirty air problem to some extent then probably as soon as next year onwards the DRS might be ditched completely...

    Those Ferraris were insanely quick. I cannot believe Kimi and Fernando took as many wins as they did against them. Just shows that having so many variables such as Different Tyres, Refuelling, , broader design rules really could make the racing interesting both on/off the track. On a side note Mercedes won a race now as I predicted in April - I knew the design has potential in it and it would be criminal to throw it all away for 2023.

    these battles prove why DRS is the worst thing to happen to F1.
    If DRS existed in 2005 then Schumacher would've just blasted past Alonso at the first opportunity. The lack of it meant that Schumacher was having to invent different ways to overtake and it meant that Alonso had the chance to defend his position. The argument for DRS is "it aids overtaking". But what stunning overtake in the last 5 years lives long into the memory? None. These battles between Alonso & Schumacher featured, ultimately, no overtaking.
