    Satakunta Air Wing hosts the British Army’s AHhelicopters between 25 April and 19 May 2024. The helicopters will participate in the Arrow 24 exercise led by the Armoured Brigade.

    Arrow 24 in English:
    The Finnish Army will carry out exercise activities across Finland between the end of April and the beginning of June. The Finnish Air Force will support the Army’s exercises during the spring by hosting Allied helicopter detachments in Finnish air bases. The Army mechanized exercise Arrow 24, led by the Armoured Brigade, will involve British attack, multirole and transport helicopters. The exercise will take place at the Pohjankangas firing range and training area in Niinisalo.
    The helicopter detachment operating from Pirkkala Air Base will consist of six British Army AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and approximately 130 soldiers. Satakunta Air Wing will provide host nation support to the deployed helicopter detachment.
    The helicopters will fly from Pirkkala Air Base daily, mostly between 8 am and 4 pm. The flights are mainly directed to the Pohjankangas firing range and training area in Niinisalo. During the Finnish Army’s exercise activity in the spring, helicopter operations will also take place in other parts of Finland.

    Panssariprikaatin johtama mekanisoitu Arrow 24 harjoitus järjestetään Pohjankankaan ampuma ja harjoitusalueella Niinisalossa 26.4.-14.5. Harjoituksen noin 2600 osallistujasta suurin osa on varusmiehiä. Panssariprikaatin lisäksi harjoitukseen osallistuu joukkoja Karjalan prikaatista, Utin Jääkärirykmentistä, Jääkäriprikaatista, Porin prikaatista, Maasotakoululta, Puolustusvoimien johtamisjärjestelmäkeskuksesta ja 2. Logistiikkarykmentistä. Osallistujista noin 300 on liittolaisia Iso-Britanniasta, Latviasta ja Virosta. Harjoitus kehittää liittouman mekanisoitujen joukkojen toiminnan lisäksi yhteistoimintaa ilmatuen kanssa brittien AH-64E -taisteluhelikoptereiden tuodessa Pohjankankaalla vuosittain järjestettävälle harjoitukselle uudenlaisen ilmaelementin.

    These versatile, multi-role helicopters are used by British Army and Navy. Navy operates from the frigates and destroyers of the Royal Navy and provide immense firepower and a wide range of technological advancements
    The Wildcat is crewed by two pilots and comes fitted with armoured, crashworthy seating for an additional six troops.
    With glass interactive cockpits and powerful sensors, the Wildcat is an elite helicopter
    The Wildcat helicopter features a digital glass cockpit that incorporates four multi-function displays to help improve situational awareness, safety, survivability and communications capability.
    They are also fitted with a nose-mounted MX-15 Wescam Electro Optical Device (EOD) that enables the pilot to detect targets at significant ranges, both day and night and in any adverse weather conditions.
    The Wildcat is a multi-role helicopter operated by Naval Air Squadron 847 (NAS 847) Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) and the Army Air Corps (AAC) Special Forces Wildcat flight.
    The Wildcat is designed and manufactured by AgustaWestland, who sell it as the AW159 Wildcat. The new aircraft replaces the ageing fleets of Lynx helicopters in British military service. They began being entered into service in late 2014 / early 2015.
    Both NAS 847 and the Army Air Corps field the AH1 variant of the Wildcat, which is designed as a battlefield reconnaissance, troop transport, airborne command post and force protection platform. The Royal Navy also fields the Wildcat HMA2 (Helicopter Maritime Attack Mk 2) variant in the anti-ship and anti-submarine role.
    Wildcat AH1s are fitted with an advanced defensive countermeasures package, namely the Selex HIDAS 15 (Helicopter integrated defensive aids system).
