As a bass player myself, I’ve always said that you can say a lot with just one note. James Dewar shows us that here. Playing that pulsating and hypnotic “C” without any deviation, to me says a lot. Some might disagree, and that’s cool. And Robin is STILL rocking today. Well into his 70’s, but he can still bring it!

That Isaac Hayes sound from Trower's guitar reminds you of Charles "Skip" Pitts from "Shaft." The master of the scratchy "wah-wah" effect. Trower was the second guitarist in Procol Harum before going solo. Very under-rated in his time. At the time, he was mostly compared to his idol, Jimi Hendrix. Nice to hear this again, fellas. Thanks.

The only problem I've had at shows like this is there always seems to be somebody from 1969 in the crowd always causing a disruption. This hippy who had been drinking started talking to my son like he was too young to know anything about this music and my son who was a 9th grader was about to go off so I stepped in and explained to this hippy that we were there to see Robin and have a good time, leave us the hell alone. This was great. Monday morning and I feel like I just stepped out of the Time Machine with Michael J Fox! Day Of The Eagle (from same album) has the same structure. Last time I saw Robin, James’ son John was on bass and lead vocal. Bill Lordan’s cymbal work was always special. Or perhaps it was Reg Isadore, I forget the order. There weren’t as many toys for guitarists back in the day, but Robin made maximum use of the Wah and MXR Phase 90, then100. Phased cymbals on their recordings was a nice touch, as that became a thing. Anyway, the live album (the stadium concert cover) is a must. Trower was and is an all time favorite for me. He plays guitar, Jimmy Dewar was his great vocalist back then in the 70's. Dewar has died since, RIP. His voice fit Trower's music perfectly. Trower was hugely popular for a few years, arena headliner. This album Bridge of Sighs won Guitar Player's album of the year back in the day I think. Day of the Eagle from it got some airplay, great song. Little Bit of Sympathy is a great song, one of my favs, Trower still closes shows with it to this day (still kicks out albums every year or 2). Trower is also famous for slow ethereal songs like Daydream and For Earth Below, check out those sometime. And Rock Me Baby from his first album is the best version of that old electric blues I've ever heard. Back in the day, my mom would sing around the house bits of Caledonia or Man of the World choruses from my albums just cause they were catchy and she thought Dewar was great singer.

I love Robin Trower. The two songs I can't do without on my playlist are,
NO TIME and GONNA TEAR IT UP TONIGHT. The combination of rock and bles is simply too much to resist. Listen and enjoy.

Some of the heaviest blues you'll ever hear...when that freaky guitar kicks in I get the goose bumps. I was a smokin tokin teen when this came out. I love it as much now as I did back then.

Saw Johnny Winter blow him off the stage in Memphis in 88.
If RT could play to match his facial contortions he'd be unstoppable.
Bridge of Sighs? I have 2 lps and a cd. Damn great lp.

I got to see the Robin Trower power trio with bassist/vocalist James Dewar in 1977. I will never forget it, plus Sammy Hagar, recently departed from Montrose, was the opening act with his debut album, "Nine on a Ten Scale". My ears rang through the next day. Bliss! James Dewar, such a great blues voice!

I used to cover this in a couple of my high school bands... I LOVE Robin Trower. Some stuff to check out are his albums with Bill Lordan on drums... Later on, after James Dewar left the band, Robin and Bill Lordan teamed up with Jack Bruce from Cream for two albums.

R.T. is such a respected musician and songwriter. He still jams in clubs all over the place. The Fool and Me is rippin'. I believe that was a favorite of both David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen. Day Of the Eagle is also fire! Great channel, fellas. New sub. Keep them toes a-tappin'! Mr. Ken 😎👍
