      @XPCREEPER Před 7 lety +28

      your not getting the point... when you compared them we actually saw no diffrence because the 1080 was actually 720 for us because you rendered the video in 720 so both images were actally 720 because when you rendered the video that 1080 image was downscaled

    • @VileSelf
      @VileSelf  Před 7 lety +57

      XPCreeper The images are magnified 5x so you aren't getting 1080 or 720 either way. The example is to show that a 720p image has more jagged edges than a 1080p image. Even though this vid is rendered in 720 you can still see less jaggies on the 1080p image because the image itself is a higher resolution than the 720p image that is beside it. If I had rendered the video in 1080p then the 720p image would have been upscaled to match the overall video resolution and you still wouldn't see a difference. Its incredibly hard to show a direct comparison between two resolutions in 1 video because no matter which res I render in the other res will be skewed in some way.

    Don't forget that the resolution of the TV helps a lot too with games. If you play a 720p game on a 720p TV the image will look more natural and less jaggied as to a 1080p TV displaying a 720p game. Also that older games look better on lower res TVs. 1080 TVs are best for newer gen consoles.

    • @VileSelf
      @VileSelf  Před 9 lety

      John Oliver Fewest? Its impossible to say because fps drops are kind of random so counting which console has fewer drops than the other is somewhat impossible. They both suffer from fps drops. Some games/moments worse than others but I'd say they're probably equal in terms of frequency although Id say Xbox One suffers more because the frames seem to drop to much lower numbers.

    nice video. here's something that gets overlooked my many.
    the difference in pixel size from 720 - 1080 isn't much, almost indistinguishable, unless fairly close to a reasonable size screen. but most TV are 1080p and it's physically impossible for them to display 720p. It must be up scaled and that's a massive cause of jaggies.

      but do full hd display require full hd video content to produce full hd image?

    • @VileSelf
      @VileSelf  Před 9 lety +1

      ajin bs Not necessarily. Some devices will upscale content so its HD. For example some DVD players will upscale a 720p DVD into 1080p if your TV supports 1080p output. Keep in mind that upscaled 1080p is not as good as native 1080p. I hope that answers your question.

  • @VileSelf
    @VileSelf  Před 8 lety +73

    Don't listen to Michael Epic. He doesn't have a clue. There are drastic differences between a 720p display and a 1080p display. The differences are most noticeable on bigger screens but even small screens if you know what to look for. I have 720p. Even 900p annoys me sometimes.If you're looking for quality then you should always go with a 1080p output. If you're on a budget and have to choose then I wouldn't buy anything over 32" that isn't 1080p.

    Ok, these are the things you got wrong. 3:27, more AA does not mean more jaggies, AA removes jaggies, so more AA = less jaggies.
    4:22 again, less AA means more jaggies, but, because you have a higher resolution, you don't need AA to remove jaggies because the pixel count covers for that.
    So yeah, you're right in a sense, but you seem muddled up in the video. Hope I helped :)

From there, I then adjust things like texture quality, model quality, shadows, and any anti-aliasing, which I tend to keep turned off, unless it is TXAA, or SSAA.

In real life some people say they cant tell the difference in their tv because most content isnt even in 1080p. Most cable companies only display 720p. And the content on a ps3 or xbox 360 is 720 or even 500p upscaled. Some dont even have a 1080p.

      @DarrenPersad Před 8 lety

      I'm not sure how well you've done your research, bub, because you aren't necessarily correct yourself; if your hardware cannot compensate for the increase in display resolution, it will be forced to lower the texture quality and render quality to maintain a steady/acceptable frame rate in games. Higher resolution does not necessarily equate to higher quality details.
      If the hardware _can_ compensate for the increase in resolution and size, then yes, it will look significantly better at the higher resolution. As with the case in many consoles and console titles, game developers locked a certain maximum resolution to increase the overall level of detail and maintain a playable frame rate, so there are scenarios when 720P or 900P will look better on a console than that same game at 1080P on a console.
      Just remember that resolution isn't everything, same deal with cameras - people always say more megapixels always means higher quality, and that just isn't the case. There are so many factors besides physical pixel count and resolution.

    So unless I'm zooming way way in on a 720p game I won't see a differance ... But if their both ya regular distance you rlly can't see a differance between 1080p and 720p. So I guess ps4 fan boys can stop acting like they have vision of a eagle and stfu . It's no big deal that sum games on x1 or 720p because in order to see the poor parts of 720p you would have to zoom in and look real hard to see the jaggies.

    • @VileSelf
      @VileSelf  Před 10 lety +1

      Well it is a problem because Xbox360 and PS3 have been playing 720p games for the past 7-8 years. Now the PS4 is outputting games regularly at 1080p and XboxOne is struggeling to hit anything higher than 720p on most games. When they manage to get upto 1080p on XboxOne they have frame rate issues.
      Its supposed to be a next gen console but its basically producing last gen results. That is a problem.
      The bigger problem is that its more expensive than the PS4 which is constantly producing higher quality images and gameplay performance.
      If you dont care about spending a larger amount of money for a less quality console then 720p is fine...but most people want to play some next gen quality games with graphics that surpass what we've been playing for the past 8 years and as of right now, the PS4 is the only console that can give us that consistantly.

    • @hoopbaby07
      @hoopbaby07 Před 10 lety

      Lol ryse is has the best graphics out for console right now . I have ps4 , wii u and x box one . And ryse is the best looking game out .and that my friend is way better then what we have been playing for the past 8 years

    • @VileSelf
      @VileSelf  Před 10 lety

      James Hooper Ryse is the best looking game on XboxOne but it doesn't look better than Killzone. Its basically impossible to compare the two because their settings are completely different but 1080p>900p all day. Ryse also suffers from boring repetitive game play and a stale multiplayer mode.
      Ryse is also only running in 30fps which is great for a single player experience but it should definitely be in 1080p if its only at 30fps. Battlefield on PS4 is 900p and it runs at 60fps. Battlefield 4 on PS4 is also an extremely nice looking game from the single player standpoint and it easily rivals Ryse in graphical quality.
      Don't forget that its just your opinion that Ryse is the best looking game out. There are 4.2 million people who would disagree because there are actual numbers and raw facts that prove you're opinion isn't exactly correct.

    • @hoopbaby07
      @hoopbaby07 Před 10 lety +1

    • @hoopbaby07

      Kill zone has like no Maps so you get lost all the time . They don't give good objective directions so you sit their trying to figure out wtf you gotta do . Game looks amazing tho . But the waves waves of bad guys is old school . And if you die you got way far back . Both games have there flaws . But ryse beats it in looks . Guess you would have to own both to see it

    Do keep in mind that when an image is upscaled to 1080p, it depends more on the upscaler for overall image quality. It attempts to fill in the "missing" pixels, but sometimes (like Bioshock for PS3) it ends up looking noticeably worse than its native resolution. Just a quick tip :)

    The Anti-Aliasing part is correct, for example, on a 1366 x 768 monitor. you need 4x msaa for the best image. on a 1920 x 1080 monitor, you only need 2x msaa for the best image.

    Thank you for this video. I was actually looking for a video on what to look for when purchasing a 3D tv. Im clueless when it comes to it. I have a few Blu-ray 3D movies just wondering what tv supports 3d movies. On the other hand I came across to this video and i'm now I have a bit more clue when it comes to HD vs. FHD . So the more pixels= more life like resolution right? Please get back on me with information regarding to my issues.

  • @unrealmuscat
    @unrealmuscat Před 8 lety

    Well this is just the basic. When we talk about resoluion in a LCD monitor many things need to be considerate. On a CRT monitor any output signal supported by the monitor gives you the exact aspect of the picture. On a LCD monitor only the exact native output resolution gives you the right aspect of the picture. That means if you try to play a game with an output signal of 720p on a monitor with a higher native resolution you can see the blur of the pixels not exactly aligned on the grid. That said it is possible to show the picture on a part of the screen instead of streching it. So on a LCD monitor it is always better if the output signal is at the same resolution. Double native resolution is another option. (1440p monitor)

    The difference between 720p and 1080p can be noticed on any tv size really, but the factors involved with it are very complex. Distance from the screen, angle, refresh rate, ect.
    But like to said in the video, most people won't begin to notice a difference beyond 36"-40"

  • @Armi1P
    @Armi1P Před 10 lety

    I'd point out a mistake; that's true that AA decrease performance, but also does the higher resolution. For simplicity, talk about SSAA (SuperSampled Anti-Aliasing), which generates an image which is x-times larger than the target (monitor resolution), then it scales down to that target resolution, and sends out the final image to the display. When you choose 2xSSAA, it means that it will render the whole image in 4 times larger than the target resolution (2 times verticaly, 2 times horizontaly); thereby, if you select 720p with 2xSSAA, it will be around 2 times more demanding to your harware than the 1080p without AA, that's true
    but if you set 2xSSAA to the 1080p, it will be 4 times as demanding as without AA; so the performance is about the resolution *AND* AA (and a lot of other aspects as well of course, but that's an other topic)
