And besides, it kinda makes the steamdeck into a mini version of my desktop in a way given I use a USB DAC with a small hybrid tube amp to drive my headphones there, probably won't bother trying to find a extra mini tube amp unless I can get one of those Korg Nutube things, really that's half the fun of any good device, finding cool ways to customize it, IMO

I don't think a pocket sized device will be playing AAA PC games any time soon, unless AMD's RDNA 3 is a gigantic leap in power efficiency.
Processing consumes power, and power consumption produces heat, and heat requires cooling. The Steam Deck has a giant cooling solution and that's why it's so big.
Not even the regular Nintendo Switch, the most portable handheld console in current gen, fits in most people's pockets (you can remove the joycons and maybe fit just the screen with very big ones).
Not to mention, even for it's time, the Switch was considered an underpowered device (they wanted it to be as small as can be for console-esque performance).
Your expectations are too unrealistic for *only* 2-3 years.
There was a 6 year gap between the Maxwell architecture on the Switch and the RDNA 2 architecture on Steam Deck (same used in PS5 and Xbox Series X) And the Steam Deck requires significantly more cooling than even the Switch.

If you want a more consistent frame rate with shadow of the colossus on PCSX2, you should set affinity control under Game Properties to EE > VU > GS. This will force PCSX2 to dedicate cores for each 3 main components of the PS2 architecture. After doing this I stopped having unusual slowdowns especially during the underground colosseum colossus and one where you climb a hill side to side (I think the sand one in a big cave with his eyes sticking out of the ground). It also helps to download the PAL version as it allows for both NTSC (59.94Hz) and PAL (50Hz) modes. This is useful because you can set custom frame rates under Advanced System and switch between them at launch. Avoid running below 29.97Hz however otherwise you’ll start encountering audio skipping bugs and cutscene hanging (I think the lowest you can go is 27Hz without experiencing major noticeable glitching. Cutscenes just run slower at below 59.94Hz NTSC and 50Hz PAL but the gameplay is normal
Hope this helps people. I spent hours messing with this… 😅
(Also power limiting steam deck means I get approx 3.5 hours gameplay at PAL 30Hz | 5W & 400MHz GPU | PowerTools threads work best at 4 and SMT disabled. 2 hours at NTSC 59.94Hz. Don’t have power settings enabled for NTSC atm)

I found that launching the emulated games via Steam was better.
It saves the controller layout to that specific game. When I was using Emu Deck I had to change the control scheme when I wanted to play a different game. There might be a way to actually save controller profiles to load though.

Otherwise, this thing has been amazing. I've been itching to play Twilight Princess again, but didn't want to break out the Wii U or gamecube. Steam deck runs it flawlessly. I have a couple but been sticking to ff9 on my old google pixel xl android. It adds to the experience when you beat one at a time don’t go shifting through multiple you’ll get burned and more bored that way. I also do emulation as a primary way of gaming now I need to get back to the switch to beat a few games tho but otherwise ps4 and that sit it out android I can emulate anywhere

I've got Shadow of the Colossus PS3 emulated running at a smooth 30 FPS on my Deck. A few of the fixes i've noticed for RPCS3 are:
    - The audio buffer is too long, i reduced mine down to 10ms in the Audio tab and that fixed all my audio problems (although you might have to play around with that one).
    - Under the "Manage" dropdown on the main RPCS3 window you'll find the button "Game Patches", make sure to check that out. Usually they have some patches that improve FPS significantly. Just press download in the bottom left and then press the checkmark in the top right that says "Only show owned games" to show your currently installed games and what patches are available for them.
    - Make sure to check the RPCS3 site for compatibility settings, sometimes they have some settings that help with stability or FPS.

From what I can see in the video, the emulated games look exquisite !
I've been looking for a good way to play SNES/Gameboy games for years now, tried with all kinds of different devices but it never really hit the mark. I currently already have a Switch and a gaming PC with a Steam library, but I didn't consider getting a Steam deck as it kinda seemed like an overkill considering I already have a Switch. I think I might reconsider that.
I'm definitely getting a next gen Switch when it comes out for all the exclusives and local multiplayer, but it might actually be a better idea to pair it up with a Steam deck instead of a traditional gaming PC ... it certainly would be cheaper.
