Great idea.

That would be funny 😂

"Where do they get babies from...for tv shows?"
I've never been so happy to hear a doctor finish a sentence.
I know How I met your mother used the babies from staff members, the one in this scene was I believe one of the producer/directors or a writers
Idk why but ur comment made me die, a family medicine doctor being confused about where babies come from would be so fucked 😭😭
The phrase Dr. Mike was thinking of was "don't think about a pink elephant." A 'White Elephant' is a gift exchange where everyone brings a silly gift that will be more trouble for the recipient to use or get rid of than the cost of the gift. It's named for the tradition of bringing white elephants to the Thai King.
OH NO NOW YOU'VE MADE US THINK ABOUT THE PINK ELEPHANT
He’s Russian. But pink elephants are something you see when delirious from perpetual alcohol abuse. At least that used to be the reference. Seems to me I remember some animal that was pink with purple polka dots you weren’t supposed to think about. I’ll try looking it up.
Oh and a white elephant was a gift FROM the king if he really wanted to burden you, because it was sacred and it was a great honor, you couldn’t get rid of it, so you were stuck feeding and caring for this massive animal for decades.
@@stillhere1425 ok
@@stillhere1425 Ahh, that makes more sense, thanks for clarifying!
6:00 " That's not a bone'" Love the quick, deadpan response.🤭
Then why is it called a boner? Checkmate!
On the other hand, "we muscled all night" doesn't have the same ring 😂
My kid was a baby model, so I have a bit of insight into this.
Basically, babies have agents, like Sam said. My kid was accepted into a "school" designed specifically for child actors, and they accept everything from newborns to middle-schoolers. After middle school, the kid actors would typically have some other type of acting agency into which they would be registered. The school had a huge 300-page catalog of headshots of all the students which directors would peruse to find the right kid to cast.
The school had acting and oration classes to prepare kids to be on TV. For babies and toddlers, it would be about training them to smile on cue or do cute baby things without crawling all over the place. For older kids, it was script reading and emoting.
My own kid was only ever in one "how babies play" type video, and we pulled him out after that. It was very tough for him because of the long hours and need to stay focused (1yo kids can't focus). Not to mention the crazy parents trying to turn their kids into stars.
I just read an article about how the British show "Call the Midwife" casts so many newborns. Babies there can get an agent basically at birth and can work at 15 days old but can only be on camera 15 minutes at a time with mandated breaks in between. For that reason, they prefer twins.
"the crazy parents trying to turn their kids into stars"
you mean, like yourself?
@@skolarii There's definitely some truth to that. Mostly, though, we went in on a lark, and maybe we'd have some interesting baby photos and videos to show at his wedding later.
But some other parents are way over the top about it. They've invested so much energy into their kid's "career" and it's 100% more about the parents wanting fame than about the kid. I remember one kid (maybe 1yo) was clearly not into whatever the activity was, but the mom was moving its arms and legs like a marionette in front of the instructors so that it wouldn't be ejected from the program. It wasn't healthy at all.
@@BlakeMcCringleberryawesome response, you pulled your child out is the key part.
Also it seems a good additional income if needed
I remember seeing somewhere that twins and triplets are paid to play new borns cause they were born a lot earlier and look more like a newborn than a baby who isn't. Also, they are a loophole with getting around the filming hours restrictions when it came to kids on set.
I miss this show! How I Met Your Mother got me thru a lot of lonely nights when I was renting a room in another state during a co-op semester in college. No cable, just local Channels. Man, I feel old! Lol
No need to keep missing it! I rewatch it on the daily 😂
@katiefrancis3620 girl, I have seen every episode at least 4× lol. It was the only TV I had for a long time bahahah. Maybe I shouldn't revisit bc there are so many episodes. I'll be held up in my living rm for WEEKS lol🤣
Often these babies are ultra life-like dolls. They are made extremely well and are so realistic it's almost scary. You can find pictures and videos of those dolls, and how they are made
Yes, I think they call them Reborn dolls and are very expensive! Great to have a pretend sleeping baby when you need one on set 👍
what more scary them or grandma porcelain dolls from long time ago with cracks and stuff
As a labor nurse one of the number one questions that I ask support people is “Are you a passer-outer? ‘Cause if you are, and if you do, this isn’t your show. You’ll be down there a while”. And I’m not taking care of you- off to the ED you go 😂😂

My friend’s wife is a midwife near London. her department was contacted by the BBC to ask if they had any new mums who wanted their baby on drama series Call the Midwife. Their son was two months old at the time so was volunteered and appeared as a newborn girl baby in an episode about post partum depression.
Call the midwife basically has an entire casting department for babies
Dr. Mike is such a blessing with his looks and his humor and his kindness. I love his channel. He's so special
Always amuses me when reactors say, “that newborn baby is NOT a newborn baby.” Do you think parents of newborns are really going to take their newborn babies to TV or movie studios? I imagine they consider themselves lucky to get a baby that’s only a month old to play a newborn.
Yes, in the past slightly older babys were cast, but nowadays you ca get a silicon baby that looks pretty real, some even blink and move their mouth.
Of course some people just prefer to use a real baby, it's probably cheaper.
@@feviana8852 The only show I know of that uses very young babies (a week or two old) is "Call The Midwife". Child labor laws are different in the U.K. However, there is a very short time limit that a child that young can be on set, literally minutes. I saw an interview with the creator of "Call The Midwife" and she talked about how young the babies are for the birth scenes.
I imagine many would, but there are laws against it
On Call the Midwife they tried to use babies as young as possible - which makes sense for a show about babies being born.
@@curiousfirelyThey book expectant mothers to bring their newborns once they're born to get newborns that look newborn.
I was a baby featured in Disco Pigs, Cillian Murphy's breakout role. My Mum was a friend of a nurse who knew people who were consulting for the movie. No I was not credited.
That’s sick!
Youngest actor in the world
I have such a big crush on Dr. Mike and I am very happily married. It has nothing to do with his looks, but man, his passion for medicine and his compassionate manner of speaking about patients and their experiences… 🥰 I wish him all the success in his career.
Saaame lol 😂❤
Everything to do with his. Looks 😂😭

HIMYM is one of theeeee best shows of all time. It's honestly timeless.
The BEST Television show ever! Thank you for covering this!
sitting here on my lunch hearing him talk about blood clots making me more aware that I need to move more often. Thank you, Dr. Mike!
I work a desk job for 12 hours a shift. I'm... concerned.
As a health inspector, I love seeing Dr mike talk about food safety/bacteria. I investigate and work to find the causes of foodborne illness. Something that people might find interesting is that I hate when doctors tell someone that they have food poisoning without explaining. They never explain. I get it though. In terms of patient management, a diagnosis of food poisoning is enough. However, food poisoning is more of a description of a set of symptoms and not really an illness. I get calls all the time of people saying their doctor told them they have food poisoning, but that tells me nothing. Food safety is a super interesting thing.
As a food safety and quality manager in a food manufacturing plant, I agree.
@@waltonlarp it really works the patient up to. It happens A LOT where complainants come to me and say that they ate somewhere at lunch, got sick shortly after, and then their doctor/urgent care said yeah that probably made you sick.
Uuuuuuh, probably not, realistically speaking. So here I am trying to take a food history and they refuse to disclose where or what else they are because, "I know I got sick here and my doctor agreed". Look, unless you ate a chemical or toxin ain't no way you got that sick that quick. Please for the love of God tell me what else was eaten.
I watched this while eating reheated rice. RIP me.
Man i really like your videos you are the best there are some youtubers that you watch and then they slowly fade away and you forget about them but you are special i wait for every new video and you never get annoying. Thanks Dr. Mike

Dr Mike I love how you educate people WITH THE TRUTH...
Doctor Mike, I cannot say I have acknowledged your existence much on CZcams. Dr. Mike: Pizza has a lot of sugar.
Everybody outside the US: You lost me.
[edit] Could you please stop with your helpless tries to make me look stupid because "what mustn't be, can't be?" I can somewhat accept that he meant carbohydrates, although I kinda doubt it because sugar has different problematic effects on the body than carbohydrates in general and Mike knows the difference between the two. I rather think he meant the humongous amount of added sugars in US food (and both flour products and tomato products are comparatively good to add sugars to). But making the sugar/carbohydrate point in a way that implies I'm stupid or bringing up preposterous lines of argumentation, either one, just make you look like a troll or an idiot.
I think he means carbs/ starch from the crust.
Do the people outside of the US not have pizza crust? The dough is made of flour, which translates to carbs, which translates to sugar, ergo, a lot of sugar.
@@NotAFanOfHandles That's kinda like saying pizza has a lot of plastic because gluten is a polymer.
@@kekort2 Ahh, thanks.
I think he meant the pizza sauce. That is packed with sugar, but yes also the crust.

From my understanding, when Barney is in a body cast, he wouldn’t necessarily have his C-collar off though if he suffered ligamentous injury to his C-spine (or bony injury for that matter), he would need to stay in a collar for a few weeks.
OMG DR MIKE FINALLY DID HIMYM YAAAAAYYY
We're not supposed to reheat rice?!?!?!
i think refrigerating for a day (two might be pushing it, though) should keep it relatively fresh. the problem is usually people thinking they can store it at room temperature for awhile and it won't go bad, which just isn't the case.
It's mostly a problem if your rice is older or has been left out at room temperature for too long.
Check out what Dr Raj Karan has to say about it.
