This show is awful because it enables and aggravates some of the most worst behaviors in humans. It essentially rewards quick, snap-judgements of other people, encourages narcissism and self-importance. People are less likely to behave like this in normal social circumstances, because, often, society instantly snaps back like a rubberband when you are an asshole. Instead, this show encourages it. And they all do it with that boorish grin, chortling and giggling away, justifying it as they stare into the camera and suckle on the sweet nectar of attention.

Actually, I like the idea of this show with a western setting… but with charlie’s idea. That way, if you really hate the date, you can just quickdraw and shoot yourself to get out of it instead of just leaving!
The button just feels more like a game of who has better reaction time to press it. Because most of these interactions just have that one person that is very insecure that they have to instantly reject the other person for their appearance or for no reason entirely. And also the fact that when they do start talking, it only lasts literally less than 30 seconds, it's ridiculous.
I kinda want to see someone in this show who only entered for the sole purpose of pressing the button faster than everyone else. They'd be rocking a cowboy gunslinger fit and claim to be the "fastest quickdraw in the West" and only ever talk about pressing the button as fast as possible at high noon when asked questions, slamming the button with incredible speed the instant it lights up. They'd go through ten people before either the episode ends or the producers kick them out themselves.
There was a good reason: because she knows she’s so unattractive that she has to protect her insecurity. This used to confuse me in real life but I’ve seen this so often with girls who feel unattractive compared to the other girls around. You’d think they’d be a safe conversation but they’re actually the worst possible choice and they know it.
They should install a random generator to determine who is gonna be eliminated after someone’s pressing the button. So if you feel the urge to end the date and want to press the button, you don’t know if you kick yourself out or the other person. Would be way more interesting and less “who hits faster”
It’s not very different from real life, or at least for people like me who are constantly afraid of coming off as awkward, “strange”, and/or generally uninteresting during every conversation and of being even more disconnected as a result. I don’t let people’s opinions of me dictate what I think of myself, (I do consider them and reflect on them, mainly on why and how they might think that way and how much truth I think there is within it)but there are still totally harmless ways you can behave that can alienate other people nonetheless. It’s one of humanity’s many problems that I want to help improve.

The idea of the button eliminating yourself is great. To fix that there might be some person that no one really wants to date you could add a rule that if the button gets pressed on you for say 3 times you actually get eliminated instead of the person.
The button having a personality and voice is easily one of the worst parts of the show. If it wasn’t bad enough that this is being filmed and the people just want attention, the button being a conscious part of it really brings home that third wheel you’re intruding into the date and sitting in the middle of us to interfere. The button feels more like an agent of chaos in the whole situation instead of an agent of help.
I would like to imagine a dramatic plot twist where the two contestants both race to press the button at the same time, but their hands touch and they suddenly look up at each other and fall in love. Then they both beat the shit out of the button together until it is just a pile of nuts and bolts, before leaving hand-in-hand like a storybook ending.

to extend more on critikal's version of the game, you have up to 3 strikes, when 3 of your dates leave you are out, and to make it more interesting if it's the third strike the other person gets to play there, but obviously without the contestants knowing they're the 3rd date. Idk if i explained it clearly. It opens to more possibilities, the person that's hitting the button is out, but it has the hope to be the third strike and be able to play more
One reason your button idea might not work, is the fact that NO ONE is gonna willingly kick themselves off. no one is gonna want to take themselves out of the picture, they're gonna wait for the OTHER person to kick themselves off. there also wont be the segment where the button asks "Why'd you reject them?" What COULD work better, is if the button, instead of kicking someone off, it determines if both parties wanna go on with the date, and if they don't, they BOTH leave the show.

I think the big problem with dating nowadays is people expect to "feel" an attraction to someone from the moment they lay eyes on somebody. True attraction is something that develops over time as you get to know somebody. But who has the patience for that?

I think this man's parents were nearly murdered in an alley after leaving a movie and a stranger in Heelys saved them. There's no other explanation for his aggressive defense of them.
What they need to do is have the button light up after like 3 minutes. That way they are forced to at least talk to eachother a bit. And also have the button shut the fuck up.
One thing this show should implement is putting cameras and mics in the room where all the contestants are so we can hear them talk shit about the person who buzzed them off.
It would be great when if you press the button, there is a 50/50 chance of either you or the other person getting eliminated. The point is that it will always stop the date for both of you but there's no scenario where some insufferable person stays there forever while everyone he meets is forced to leave
If they made it where there are multiple simultaneous dates are going on all at once and nobody is without a date then everyone is in the spotlight at all times and perhaps they'd attempt to actually make an effort to get to know the person bc they know once they leave they're headed to another room to try again

The button is actually a really good example of a game in security studies called the stag hunt. It's similar to the prisoner's dilemma except you get more by cooperating rather than less. The idea is that there are two parties who can either cooperate to get a stag (or more air time and a date) or they can hunt individually and get a rabbit (come off as a douchebag but with more airtime).
I also feel like that’s a great way to explain how society works. You can either hunt a rabbit yourself and survive, hunt a stag by yourself and likely starve, but reap all the benefits of manage not to, or cooperate and either starve as a pack or get the stag. It’s reflective of how we can cooperate to make technology and societies, but how it’s all dependent on trust in society at large.

Button talking, giving away private information and asking bunch a shit makes the concept of the show. Problem is people not being physically attracted to each other for which one there is no fixable solution. Just enjoy the show, people are looking way too deep into it.
It seems like an anti dating show to be honest. It's like the producers have gone out of their way to ensure the contestants can't make a connection even if they have chemistry. It feels like an elaborate psychological test study more than a dating show tbh.
An idea for how the button should work: Each player has a button under the table. They each can push their button at any time, but they have to be there and talk for about ten minutes. They are not allowed to take back their button push after they have pushed it, and at the end of the timer, it's revealed who pushed their button, and they can explain why. This way, if both people pushed their button, they both get booted out, so people can actually try to be appealing or get somewhere instead of pushing the button on everyone.
what's incredible in this show, is that the longer someone stay on screen, the more awful they revel to be. it's actually the first-time i'm seeing something in which i'd rather be rejected by someone than staying on screen for more than a single minute. just look how fast the peoples that stay on screen the longest-time switch peoples, most of the time, their intelocutor get to answer a single question, and then they IMMEDIATELY RUSH to that button. they're not even interested in learning anything about the person they're talking with, they just want to stay by themselve as long as they can until they find someone up to their standard. and keep in mind, it's only physical-standards, because they don't even get to know their interlocutor because they eject them so fast.
Why do I get the feeling Sapphire and the green haired girl (forgot her name) would hit it off easily? They have similar vibes and it feels like they could actually be able to hold a conversation with each other well. What they should've done in this show is that they should've had EVERYONE in that cast have 5 minutes with each other, and THEN they should've had those two who SEEM the best-fit or the most chemistry with one another, sit down and see if they can keep a conversation going strong for the 5 minutes. The buzzer won't go off until 5 minutes but will continuously ask them questions.
How about pressing the button ejects a person randomly? So, if you want to end the date it’s a toss-up on who gets eliminated each time. That makes each button-press far more fair and stressful.

Following up on your idea Charlie, what if for every 3-5 people that buzz themselves out, the other person is eliminated as well as by that point the problem could be the other person
The button should randomly eject one of the two people. The way it currently is, you want to make sure you're the first to press it. If it always kicked out whoever pressed it, then it could become an uncomfortable stare down while 2 people try to be as repulsive to the other to make them press the button first, probably usually ending in both people just sitting there going "Well I'm not going to press it." If it just randomly picked one, then you'd still have a reason to press it if you weren't into your date, but you'd also be hesitant if there was a chance of connection because otherwise you might be out. OR: Order of contestants is randomly determined. After the button is pressed, the person who is next up gets to choose who they want to talk to but the current people don't know who's next.
New format: You press the button to remove yourself from the blind date, eliminating you from the show. If you are a contestant and three consecutive people have buzzed themselves out before the timer was up, you are also out. Two new contestants take their places. Those two small changes would remove people who are just buzzing everybody who isn't 100% perfect and also remove the possibility of somebody annoying/obnoxious/cringy getting stuck in the hot seat forever.
Why not change the button to be the opposite of its function and have people press it if they find an interest with each other instead and swap people out via a timer and a coin flip or something instead of having a battle of reaction speed? As far as I know this is a date game so why have a function to boot each other out when it could be decided after x amount of minutes and to decided who leaves is a coin flip so it isn't a battle? Just brainstorming.
I think the best option is for pressing the button to be a coin flip: 50/50 if you or the other person is removed. That way people will try to make the date work, but they'll still risk a button press if the date is really bad.

They should have a show like that, but the premise of the show is fake, it's just about having someone press the button, then the "date" stops, they bring in a panel of psychologists who ask them why they stopped the date for a silly thing that doesn't matter... Ask them if they would've just got up and left if this had been a real first date, things like that. Then the psychologists leave and the 2 participants are forced to talk for the last 15 minutes of the show.

The button just feels more like a game of who has better reaction time to press it. Because most of these interactions just have that one person that is very insecure that they have to instantly reject the other person for their appearance or for no reason entirely. And also the fact that when they do start talking, it only lasts literally less than 30 seconds, it's ridiculous.
I kinda want to see someone in this show who only entered for the sole purpose of pressing the button faster than everyone else. They'd be rocking a cowboy gunslinger fit and claim to be the "fastest quickdraw in the West" and only ever talk about pressing the button as fast as possible at high noon when asked questions, slamming the button with incredible speed the instant it lights up. They'd go through ten people before either the episode ends or the producers kick them out themselves.
It honestly makes me so mad when there’s just that one person that buzzes EVERYONE for NO. GOOD. REASON.

The idea of the button eliminating yourself is great. To fix that there might be some person that no one really wants to date you could add a rule that if the button gets pressed on you for say 3 times you actually get eliminated instead of the person.
The button having a personality and voice is easily one of the worst parts of the show. If it wasn’t bad enough that this is being filmed and the people just want attention, the button being a conscious part of it really brings home that third wheel you’re intruding into the date and sitting in the middle of us to interfere. The button feels more like an agent of chaos in the whole situation instead of an agent of help.

One reason your button idea might not work, is the fact that NO ONE is gonna willingly kick themselves off. no one is gonna want to take themselves out of the picture, they're gonna wait for the OTHER person to kick themselves off. there also wont be the segment where the button asks "Why'd you reject them?"
What COULD work better, is if the button, instead of kicking someone off, it determines if both parties wanna go on with the date, and if they don't, they BOTH leave the show.

I think the big problem with dating nowadays is people expect to "feel" an attraction to someone from the moment they lay eyes on somebody. True attraction is something that develops over time as you get to know somebody. But who has the patience for that?

The button is actually a really good example of a game in security studies called the stag hunt. It's similar to the prisoner's dilemma except you get more by cooperating rather than less. The idea is that there are two parties who can either cooperate to get a stag (or more air time and a date) or they can hunt individually and get a rabbit (come off as a douchebag but with more airtime).
I also feel like that’s a great way to explain how society works. You can either hunt a rabbit yourself and survive, hunt a stag by yourself and likely starve, but reap all the benefits of manage not to, or cooperate and either starve as a pack or get the stag. It’s reflective of how we can cooperate to make technology and societies, but how it’s all dependent on trust in society at large.
From this video, I got the impression that the effect was by design. The dating element is likely there to hook viewers with morbid curiosity IMO.

It seems like an anti dating show to be honest. It's like the producers have gone out of their way to ensure the contestants can't make a connection even if they have chemistry. It feels like an elaborate psychological test study more than a dating show tbh.

An idea for how the button should work:
Each player has a button under the table. They each can push their button at any time, but they have to be there and talk for about ten minutes. They are not allowed to take back their button push after they have pushed it, and at the end of the timer, it's revealed who pushed their button, and they can explain why. This way, if both people pushed their button, they both get booted out, so people can actually try to be appealing or get somewhere instead of pushing the button on everyone.
I mean they can act fake and have an awkward conversation which to me sounds entertaining.

Following up on your idea Charlie, what if for every 3-5 people that buzz themselves out, the other person is eliminated as well as by that point the problem could be the other person
The button should randomly eject one of the two people.
The way it currently is, you want to make sure you're the first to press it. If it always kicked out whoever pressed it, then it could become an uncomfortable stare down while 2 people try to be as repulsive to the other to make them press the button first, probably usually ending in both people just sitting there going "Well I'm not going to press it."
If it just randomly picked one, then you'd still have a reason to press it if you weren't into your date, but you'd also be hesitant if there was a chance of connection because otherwise you might be out.
OR: Order of contestants is randomly determined. After the button is pressed, the person who is next up gets to choose who they want to talk to but the current people don't know who's next.
New format:
You press the button to remove yourself from the blind date, eliminating you from the show.
If you are a contestant and three consecutive people have buzzed themselves out before the timer was up, you are also out. Two new contestants take their places.
Those two small changes would remove people who are just buzzing everybody who isn't 100% perfect and also remove the possibility of somebody annoying/obnoxious/cringy getting stuck in the hot seat forever.

Why not change the button to be the opposite of its function and have people press it if they find an interest with each other instead and swap people out via a timer and a coin flip or something instead of having a battle of reaction speed?
As far as I know this is a date game so why have a function to boot each other out when it could be decided after x amount of minutes and to decided who leaves is a coin flip so it isn't a battle?
Just brainstorming.
I think the best option is for pressing the button to be a coin flip: 50/50 if you or the other person is removed. That way people will try to make the date work, but they'll still risk a button press if the date is really bad.

They should have a show like that, but the premise of the show is fake, it's just about having someone press the button, then the "date" stops, they bring in a panel of psychologists who ask them why they stopped the date for a silly thing that doesn't matter... Ask them if they would've just got up and left if this had been a real first date, things like that. Then the psychologists leave and the 2 participants are forced to talk for the last 15 minutes of the show.
This is even worse my guy imagine somehow telling the psychologist they really don’t like the other person because they are an ahole and then forced to pretend for 15 minutes they have chemistry
