- The Big Pier Challenge in RollerCoaster Tycoon (Classic, 1999). $10,000 and nothing more than the open sea. A challenge I've wanted to do since the Micro-Park.

I spoke a bit soon, but be on the lookout for a 1M video sooner or later. Still getting a bit caught up on things after a couple recent trips, so it'll be here sooner or later -- hope you enjoy! RCT is one of my favorites to revisit.
Hey
link me pls cause I was first view and like
ilu amphibian
You're the best innocuous semi aquatic youtuber out there! Congrats on 100k!
Edit: I mean a million
Congratulations dude your a real CZcamsr!
Your philosopher like narration makes this channel so unique and enjoyable to watch
I was watching Joov, he did a skyrim playthrough where he didn’t leave BlackReach. I thought that it would be a cool video, but he just spends the whole video complaining of a lack of content. I feel if AA had done it we would have been treated to intense philosophical thoughts about survival and isolation. But alas.
@@OCinneide AA would probably also install a few mods to allow for better storytelling, tbh.
I don' get playing a moddable game like skyrim, then doing a "challenge" like that and not installing any mods that make a challenge like that possible.
it's more linguistically eloquent and poetic than philosophical but I guess theres crossover
agreed
For real. He could narrate me taking a shit and I'd love it
Youre the only creator who can make a 10 minute video feel like I just watched an hour of content.
That sounds like an insult xD
Usually i say something like this as a negative but un this case i agree with and i think it’s amazing
I hope you agree lol
normally this would be an insult but in this case he packs so much great content in 10mins. most youtubers would drag this video out to be 40mins or more
this usually means the video is "boring" lol
Exactly that.
you're narration is unbelievably smooth and detailed, you must be an amazingly fast script writer!
U should check out his full vods. He talks like this....for hours its amazing
it's nearly halloween. the dead bodies lining the ocean floor merely add to the spooky ambiance.
Walking atop corpses of those sacrificed in the name of further expansion only heightens the sense of Americana that the park gives of.
This is how you build Mr Bones' Wild Underwater Ride
Always a treat when Amphibian starts playing Clair de Lune.
This was more in the style of his earlier, philosophical vids, yet keeping the nicer editing and lighter tone more apparent of his current videos. Good balance
2:10 Immediately after pointing out that the shading-free isometric 2.5d visuals mess with your brain, he makes an impossible waterfall.
I don't understand?
@@tangentfox4677 Old optical illusion where water is always flowing downstream.
9:19 "At last, I tied it all up with an observation ride so that the guests too could feast their eyes on this visual aneurysm." lmao!
He put the water on the water.
He's a witch!
lol
I'd honestly watch nothing but AA playing RCT, this is golden!
This "hmmm" in the first second caught me off guard xd
AA's scripts are genuinely poetic, especially these RollerCoaster tycoon vids.
I always loved the Shuttle Loop, my favorite trick was to jack the launch speed up to max and extend the ramp up JUUUST enough to prevent the carts from launching off. It greatly boosted the Excitement rating while barely affecting the Intensity rating, so people would flock to it in droves and it would remain one of my most popular coasters for most of the run. Fond memories...
Hey Amphibian, you obviously don't know me but I want to congratulate you on getting 1 million subs on CZcams, I've been around since Torsolo and watching you grow from a few thousand to a million subscribers is truly amazing, love the philosophical narration and keep up the great content!
Hey thanks! That means a lot :)
@@ambiguousamphibian No problem man.
I love that the water slide tubes explode into flames when they crash into each other. 😹 I still go back to this game every few years; one of my absolute faves!!!
If you love roller coaster tycoon i could really recommend Marcel Vos' videos on it. Like the longest roller coaster. Kind of a cult classic at this point.
Aye, a fellow Marcel fan I see!
Ah yes I like his stuff!
I went down rabbit hole and RCT looks more evil than any games now. lol
Man, RCT is such a nastalgic game.
Such a specific era of my life where i knew nothing of economic managment and was listening to the park ASMR on my grandma's PC in the basement
Grandmas are nice
Reminds me of my family's old dell computer. It no longer works. But playing this super young was so fun. Along with the Lego park builder. Sitting in our extra bedroom playing them. And some original StarCraft. (Mostly just the first few levels of each as I was a kid) and some Fate too. Nostalgia trip
This is the epitome of content I'm looking for on CZcams. Honestly had me smiling at the end and a deep desire to play RCT again. Thank you!
Your narratives are amazing! Have you considered writing a book about a magical boy wizard fighting an evil wizard while attending a school of some kind?
I wonder wherever you got that idea 🤔🤔
I love this!
@@ambiguousamphibian Please re-write The Cursed Child, we beseech you!
And Love Never Dies while you're at it. Your script-writing is just sublime. And the choice of music, the classical and philosophical references. We could all go on and on!
AA, your videos are so consistently high quality, and you upload so regularily, I love it. I also like the way you don't use clickbaity or attention grabby tactics, all the videos are just what you want to do, but presented so interestingly they're all gripping.
No joke, I've watched the whole channel's videos and am currently working my way through the VODs channel too.
Hey thanks! That means a lot - hope you enjoy more of whatever you came for, my friend :)
@@ambiguousamphibian I love all your videos, but I found you and subbed due to your Rimworld videos. Your narration mixed with the nearly infinite story potential in rimworld is amazing
This whole series is meditatively calming for me.
Absolutely loved RCT2 as a kid. Fond memories of my mom showing me how a computer worked and then popping this CD in, hearing the clatter of the chains on the intro screen, and the screams of happiness right before jumping in. Such a special game, the first and the second, they will always hold a place in my heart. Thank you AA for making these videos about such a wonderful game.
Its funny how detailed and interesting such a simple game like this is
The motherfucker programmed this game in Assembly. Meaning he essentially wrote a line (or like 300) of code to tell the computer where to display EVERY SINGLE PIXEL in EVERY possible scenario in the game. In addition to sound, menus and gui, guest AI, everything.
It's a sisyphean task that probably nobody could ever replicate. Dude is a genius.
Simple? Bitch was coded in assembly.
Bitches love assembly.
4:00 hearing amphibians sentence get cut off as the customers wanted to the air and into the water had me in tears
2:41 - "It goes up, then down. then back up, then slightly less down."
👏
the "60mph launch speed" gag starting at 3:47 is the funniest moment in the entire AA oeuvre. dying. dead.
You have such a calm and gentle speaking voice whilst causing utter chaos and destruction in game, the contrast is wonderful 😂👍
WATER PARK! WATER PARK! WATER PARK!
“A chicken noodle soup of kinetic energy and friction”
Holy crap dude
I truly love your narrative style - the philosophical musings and calm delivery combine well with your unique sense of humor.
You never fail to impress me with your abillity to turn anything into a wonderfully complex, well worded monologue of seemingly philosophical nonsense! Well done sir, as always!
i never thought in my life i would ever found Rollercoaster Tycoon ASMR. this is 10 minutes of soft voiced amusement park pleasure
I admire how you're able to plan such complex parks with rides flawlessly interweaving. Gratz on 1 mil!
This game absolutely did not need to go as hard as it did on the music, but it did. And we’re so, so grateful it did. That bumper cars music is 🔥
Finally we found him again!
7:52 When the Claire DeLune hits you know philosophy is going down, amazing video as always! Alongside the splash of existentialism :D
Chris Sawyer deserves all the pride he’s ever gotten from these games, but my lord this whole series is absolutely the BEST testament to his work I can ever imagine as an author of something. Someone so poetically putting life into the tools you made for them, and putting it in amazing video form… sheesh.
Better than any emmy or grammy or any other stupid ‘award’ you could ever get
9:28 This perfectly encapsulates what I feel whenever I get engrossed in any builder-type game, whether it's Cities Skylines or Dragon Quest Builders. You have a real knack for words, AA!
idk what it is but something about the delivery of "a water ride... on top of WATER? bizzare" makes me laugh so hard
"Hello." would be my ringtone if I could do that sort of thing these days and had a phone that rang. I prefer that open.
The bit at the end about how computers and creating really captured a feeling of love for the elegance of these games that I really appreciate
2:56 A wooden coaster with steel fasteners by sea water is one of those concepts that is terrifying to me. Just rotting wood beams and incredibly quick rust on all the bolts...
Hopefully that paint holds up well
In 1999 the commercial internet was just 6 years old.
Time flies!
I always turn to ambiguousamphibian when I'm in a mood for both games and story. He never ceases to entertain.
Can you believe this game was written almost entirely in assembly code?
2 Things
1. Excellent narration and commentary as usual.
2. That little bit of natural shake and smooth panning on your zoomed shots was super satisfying. I havent noticed it before but it was really nice. Thanks.
Fantastic video fueled by the childlike feeling of nostalgia converted in a more digestible language for the adults we have become. Almost bringing me to tears of the simpler past.
Can't wait to see what comes next
I would love to listen to an audiobook narrated by him haha.
Man I'm so happy for you to find a niche of making these challenge videos, I love watching them every time you post a new one!
RCT just keeps giving… so many childhood memories. Thank you for the memory ride!
The “Hmm” intro with the lizard pic fits so well I had to replay 3 times holy
"Afterall, what's a trip to the amusement park without capital T Truth?" That line turned this video into some prose poetry.
I was binging your videos a few days ago, you've become one of my favourite channels atm and have really made me appreciate management as a game genre, keep up the great work :)
6:08 "Trying to peer through many colorful coaster tracks-" pun intended? maybe... peer... pier... maybe not intended but- yeah. crazy-
I just let the video play in the background for 2 minutes and it becomed a visual mess, what a beatiful piece of modern art
My favorite game from my childhood. Making the most vomit inducing roller coasters where they couldn't escape, and leave them with misery lol
Ambiguous Amphibian I just wanted to thank you for putting out some of the best content I've seen.
Two years ago I was an alcoholic and suicidal. But you genuinely made me want to play RimWorld and kenshi with the torsolo videos, and things like the whole world meteor playthrough.
I genuinely used to feel like torsolo with even the simplest tasks feeling completely impossible but little by little you made me want to play silly games and I found my self doing that more than drinking and not hating my life as much. Eventually I got some much needed help and I don't think I would have without you a funny internet frog man introducing me to wonderful games.
Thank you for making my favorite content online.
(Btw I miss RimWorld and project zomboid lmafo)
Thanks for being based
I'm really glad to read how you've progressed to a much more positive place; isn't it fascinating how all it can take is one small, whimsical amphibian. All the best with your journey to satisfaction and positive self-fulfilment!
@@DannyClayton93
Thanks man, I'm also super proud to start school to become a teacher in October
Something I never thought I'd be able to do
I'm guessing that the older Theme Park is much too simplistic for you, but I still hope you do a video on it all the same. I still have that tune in my head, all these years later it never goes away. It will haunt me until my dying breath.
I think I appreciate your narrative so much due to the fact that it reminds me of the reports Scully and Mulder write at the end of most of the X-Files episodes. vry deep
Feels weird saying this, but I have wind up using videos I've already watched of our ambiguous amphibian in my sleeping playlist. When I'm awake, it's entertaining. When I'm asleep it's soothing, and eases me into sleep really well. This mystery amphibian even manages to make war crimes and human rights violations soothing enough for sleep.
I still remember how to do a trick in this game I haven't seen anywhere else that lets you get any kind of rollercoaster to pass inspections (If that's what it's called, been a while) and open the ride. Only to fill it with tons of people and send them on the most dangerous and usually deadly ride to their deaths. Good times.
You mean to tell me this dude put a water ride that lets you splash down in water on top of water at park that's sitting on the water?
Gnarly.
That "HMM!" at the beginning cracked me up so bad :'D
Watching your videos has turned into listening to an audio book with visuals and some background music. I enjoy it.
“Every square inch of the park a bright red and white, in bold salute to the briny waves beneath.” That’s…actually really well written. Very descriptive and literary. Please tell me you’re also a writer! Well done!
In RCT3, if you build even a small water park partition, it'll skyrocket your popularity and be insanely successful
Love this return to the existential philosophy in early video games
"Cylinder 1" and "Cylinder 2", for a merry-go-round and ferris wheel, the pinnacle of branding.
Fun fact, The Dodgems and the Merry-go-round's music actually do compete.
Guests will comment on the nice music of a carousel from time to time, but they can't have that thought if there's a dodgems playing music nearby.
I was taking a drink of my coffee and your Morpheus reference almost caused me to spit coffee all of my computer monitor - almost.
I just start laughing whenever Clair du Lune starts playing now, it's always the start of his best philosophical semi-shitposting
I sincerely think you would enjoy OpenTTD. The logistics of it are immensely satisfying. My personal experience with it was a week long binge, playing all waking hours of the day, and burning the candles at both ends. Every day I played, I learned. I reiterated. I started developing systems for my gameplay, my trains, the beautiful rail systems I created. I was simultaneously in a frenzy and a zen zone. I cannot recommend it enough.
Thank you for the fantastic content.
Gosh, this game is an absolute masterpiece.
"A chicken noodle soup of kinetic energy and friction"
That's a new sentence if I've ever heard one.
“Hm!?” Is the best catchphrase ever
No idea if you’ll see this Mr Amphibian.. but you should build two looping coasters next to each other. The stations should end side by side so you can sync them. Make them launch through a loop that splits them apart, get a photo, another loop back together and then a steep twisty climb to make them cap out and go back. Huge easy money maker.
I have never thought I would watch someone playing RollerCoaster Tycoon and sit through the entire video. I am glad to have this man in my recommended videos.
You can't be more American Corpo than: "One lawsuit later, we are back."
I remember playing this as a kid and placing one of the paddle boat rides with no guides so people would just paddle out into open water and be out there for years
I had to watch 2 unskippable ads to see that video but damn was it worth it
Ah... Nothing tops AA's introspective and philosophical narration.
"A wide and exciting foundation" - I like that.
Man, Roller Coaster Tycoon is a legend for a reason. What a fantastic game.
7:14 having played this game before, I can confirm this is exactly how the bumper cars music makes me feel
Bumper cars next to the Merry-Go-Round? I feel personally called out.
Oh my god the first second of the video is what I've always wanted to hear out of him, a good hearty "HM" while showing his avatar of Kermit with a scrunched up face, lmao
An excellent achievement. What a lovely park.
I wish I could see it in RCT3.
Big fan of your work, always a pleasure to watch your edited videos and full vods
You should definitely try doing videogame reviews. Your style is amazing and your choice of words always brings me joy
i was so unprepared for that HMMMM that i uncontrollably laughed out loud for several minutes
Great RCT vid as usual
Also, You can get an excitement bonus if you have the yellow coaster at 4:26 go through the loop and intertwine :D
"This time I'm going to build a water park on top of water. Bizarre."
You call that bizarre, I call it the natural opposite of a regular air park underneath air.
Imagine if ambiguousamphibian narrated Morgan Freeman's biography...
Ah, the classic Bumper Car/Merry-Go-Round dilemma. Didn't expect that, of all things, to come up today. Good times....
So as illustrations of what people are capable of creating given the proper medium, on the one hand you have this. And on the other, Mr. Bones' Wild Ride. There's an odd sort of symmetry there, and I approve.
this game seems to have infinite possibilities. very cool to see your creativity.
Amphibian, I recall playing a game in my childhood titled "John Deere American Farmer" that plays a lot like this game in that you build a profitable farm, and has a number of playable scenarios. I think it's worth checking out.
When it first came out, I loved RCT for the ability to create fun, exciting, colorful rides. Now that I'm middle-aged, I find the most satisfying part about it is getting out of debt.
Every word in your descriptions feels like it was chosen deliberetly in the best way.
