      Mmm, no,she is not like us. She grew up in LA trying to be an actress. That will distort yourself worth by placing all your value on your looks. It’s just not like that in the rest of the world. Also Lorry believes that all celebrities have had a facelift based on comparing 2 photos. It’s total projection on her part. So much can change between photos, lighting, makeup, weight gain and loss. The face changes day to day depending on sleep and sodium intake, alcohol, physical activities. I totally agree with the filler part. I've had a nose job in 2017 and it was the best decision. My dentist tried to convince me of having a non surgical nose job but I've never even considered it. I don't want to keep having to do maintenance for my entire life. I'd rather "buy" my nose than "rent" it. Not to mention that fillers obviously can't make a nose smaller, only bigger and bulkier. And I love my nose now. It's not a perfect nose, but is perfect for me.

    Regarding uptick in plastic surgery during the pandemic, one of the main causes is excessive time spent on Zoom. People are spending tons of time staring at their own faces, and it's creating an epidemic of self-loathing. You suddenly see your thin lips, and eye bags, and loose neck folds... all things you didn't focus on in real life interactions. But spending hours online staring at your flaws drives one to want to do something to address these issues.

I decided to wait until after I was done having kids since I was unsure it would impact breast feeding. I never considered doing anything to my face but I really think Lorrys channel helped me see that as much as society pressures people into looking prefect, there is a polarizing other group that judges people for getting work done. What Lorry said about why some people reject PS is very true. We seek improvement in many aspects of our life including intellect, spiritual wisdom etc so why is physical improvement stigmatised?

    • @klospike
      @klospike Před 2 lety +12

      Because, when you reach spiritual wisdom and have enough intellect, you realise that your physical appearence is not as important as you thought....
      You could also say, only shallow people care so much about theyre appearence, that they HAD to change it to feel good and in peace with themselfes... Not strong enough to cope with the natural shortcomings...
      Plus: We choose our partner for mating thru the nose (smell) and the eyes (beauty) - as all animals. When my eyes deceive me about your REAL biological fitness, (beauty reflects your biological fitness) because you underwent plastic surgery, I feel unconcious a little bit fooled.
      "You could be a ugly bitch with just enough plastic surgeries to make you beautifull"!! My biological programm dont like that :-)
      Thats said, the upper two are not my total conviction! I just want to explain why the majority of people see plastic surgery as a flaw (in character).
      P.S. For other self improvements YOU have always work HARD to get them! Like physical improvement, or intellectual. You have to invest hard work and much energy. Without that STRONG WILL and endurance you wont get the good outcome. And this strong will is ultimately admired by other people, when they see you fighting to get to your goal!!
      Thats COMPLETELY different with a plastic surgery ... YOU dont have much to do but pay a good surgeon. Not much effort there to be admired ...

      @@ALT-vz3jn Wow. You really just attacked someone’s appearance because they disagree with plastic surgery. This type of behavior is the reason ps shouldn’t be glamorized; it draws way too much attention to how we look than what we think and do. While this person made generalizations, you can’t deny that many people who get plastic surgery would likely not have gotten it if it wasn’t for people constantly critiquing people’s looks, just like you did here. People also tend to not admit to getting them, which leads to people shaming natural features for not matching the unrealistic surgical ones. It’s a vicious cycle that could stop if we started accepting ourselves instead of trying to change.

    i think lorry is spot on with her psychological analysis of ppl hating on plastic surgery: ppl dont allow themself to do it, because they dont allow themself to admit that yes they also are superficial and want validation from others and are not so enlightened that they could unconditionally love themselfs even if the whole world rejects them. that is the shadow part that many dont want to face, espacially in todays toxic positivity and "just practice selflove" world. and since they cant face their own shadow about it, they project onto others and attack them for going for the surgery. i agree with holly. i mean why else would somebody get so triggered about what others do with their bodies that you wqould go so far as to threaten their life? that is crazy

    • @IamCree
      @IamCree Před 2 lety +6

      I totally disagree. I felt she really had no understanding of the other perspective and came up with something silly. In my opinion, there are a few reasons for the stigma. First, ps is usually (and has historically been) surrounded by dishonesty, and that "I'm aiming to be the prettiest but won't admit I did anything or care about my looks enough to change them" attitude is off-putting. When people like Lorry embrace what they've done and how they feel in an honest way, it helps to lessen that unhealthy dynamic.
      Then there is the stigma that people who do it are shallow and attention seeking. And tbh, some of them are. They feel so insecure that they can't embrace themselves as they are and have to flaunt their paid for looks in front of everyone else. IMO, this doesn't apply to people who just want subtle improvements to help with specific problems. As in, that stereotype reflects a certain ps patient, not all os patients. But a lot of people (especially deep thinking, down to earth people) often find that attention seeking, superficial energy to be really unlikable and immature.
      There's also the ethical dilemma that the more society makes ps required for having a beautiful enough look, the more unachievable self acceptance and self esteem are for the bulk of the population, and it also impacts the expectations of possible romantic interests/relationships. And even if it were achievable for everyone (financially and with health-wise), as a society, where have we gotten that in order to accept ourselves and others, everyone needs to cut themselves up and get new looks? It just feels wrong and unhealthy.
      My personal view is that everyone should be able to do what they want with their looks without fear or shame. If I didn't have health issues that make elective surgery a bigger deal than normal, I'd love to do some anti aging care. But I also know how much our society pressures us, especially women, to look a certain way otherwise we're no longer seen and valued. And I KNOW that plays a role in most ps (like Lorry said, we don't exist in a vacuum). And I'm against that view and troubled by that playing a role in undergoing surgery. I feel like until we fight it and insist that women be seen, valued, and recognized as worthwhile and valuable regardless of age, race, facial structure, income, etc we're just feeding a problem that negatively impacts everyone. And we can't fight that without brave women who insist on NOT changing themselves and NOT apologizing for themselves while also truly embracing themselves and telling society what's what.
      So overall, it's not black and white. There are a lot of issues at play, and at the end of the day, I think there's a place for both plastic surgery and societal reform, even though they are at odds in many ways. I think there are valid reasons people feel resentful about those who get ps, but I also think there shouldn't be a sigma or shame just because someone got ps. Like why do we need to be hurtful when there's no reason? Everyone should be allowed to make their own choices and not be judged as long as they're not hurting anyone

    Both of your channels, and the conversations you have are incredibly valuable. I wanted you both to know that what you are doing is important and to keep going with this type of transparency and good valuable conversations and knowledge about this topic. I think it is so helpful since plastic surgery has always been sort of “hush hush” many people contemplating MAJOR cosmetic surgeries end up in possibly life threatening situations specifically because of the lack of valuable information with which to educate oneself about said procedure. And to me that’s what’s scary!!
    You’re both great 👍🙂 keeping being you!!

    As a cosmetologist, I totally felt the whole consultation dialogue; sometimes during the consult you will realize your services are not the best fit for what they want, and with hair, some people will never be happy with what you do because they are not happy with themselves and cosmetic procedures only can do so much. I am not afraid to say NO, and tell the client I am not a one for their needs. I’d rather loose out on a quick dollar than possibly deal with unrealistic clients that can cost my business much more in the long run.
    I never realized plastic surgeons went through that similar to us hairstylist.
    And I totally agree with the best don’t have to advertise! The work will speak for itself!!

    Great conversation. I think on the the looking good inside versus outside question: You can also decide, to a certain extent, how important your looks are to you. Like I know I'm not the best looking person out there, but I'm also not an actress or a model so I don't need to focus on it as much. I feel good about myself when I'm learning or when I'm doing good work. Obviously we are social creatures so of course we care about what people think. On the other hand it can also be unhealthy to place too much importance on it.

    • @ALT-vz3jn

      The important thing is that each person does what is right for them, and doesn’t judge others for their choices.

    • @johannas.l.brushane2518
      @johannas.l.brushane2518 Před rokem +2

      @@ALT-vz3jn Though sometimes it appears as counterproductive. I recall Kirk Douglas once commented on why actors would have a lot of procedures that sometimes limited their ability to commynicate with facial expressions. And that is a valid point. Imagine how much worse a lot of films would be if the actors would have to verbally state out loud they are sad, angry or whatever because they lost the ability to that subtle communication of mere facial expression. And obviously there are artists who wrecked their careers with overdoing surgeries (or maybe smaller jobs that nevertheless changed their whole appearance), I don't think they are happy in hindsight. The "you go girl!" approach can be destructive. And I also think that one important basis for when people tend to say someone looks errie or alien is just because of that vanished ability to change in facial expressions to indicate whether someone is friendly or hostile. Humans tend even to rate animals by such, we can detect the agreeability to us with dogs, cats horses etc while not so with certain other animals which we then tend to view as less agreeable (even among small children who have not been thaught which animals to stay away from). So be aware of that the dislike of extreme work may have a very deep rooted reason, perhaps often with an ignorant side to it, we tend to respect that animals that can display some sort of feelings also have them while less so for fish, reptiles and spiders who have limited ability to display their emotions and intentions in a way detectable to humans.

    I think the big stimga around plastic surgery is because people are aiming towards "natural" over everything, we want that society looks at us as "natural". We can see the same thing in pregnancy (when people really compete what kind of birth they had), sports (fitness and olympics), work/job etc, that is why also drugs are so stigmatized (because "you should feel better without taking something in"). Society doesnt want to admit that it is not perfect since civilization (and the beggining of civilizations is the time when we moved away from nature - so in some way we always compete with it and want to reach it). We dont want to admit that the standard we set up for ourselves are not reachable in a "natural way". It is kind of a paradox. I hope I make sense and also that is my thought/opinion only.

    Both of your channels convinced me that a liplift will help ameliorate much of what went wrong with 3 prior surgeries. I still have a 23mm PHILTRUM! I had an auto implant, a vermillion border augmentation, then, a partial correction of both previous procedures. It has been since 2005 since the last revision. In the NE I think I'm looking at about 5K? Anyhow, wish me luck. I'm planning on seeing Dr. Linkov in a few months, for teleconsult, apparently, so I only have to travel to NYC for the surgery. I'm completely fine with this. I cant wait to meet him as well as having the surgery. He seems like a great guy, not a character of a "Great guy!"...

You are very respectful compassionate competent and ethical dr. and you’d be my dr for sure if I ever decide to get plastic surgery and could afford you lol and Lorry I watch your channel. You too are honest informative respectful and realistic. A lot of the results depend on peoples own healing and how it recovers and what they perceive in their mind. This is probably one of the best videos I have watched talking about the other side viewpoints. It's really a great and important video to hear them telling us the underlying and real stories and real facts. Many more people need to hear this video. Just think if the celebrities on Instagram did say what they did ! How much more business the surgeons would actually get lol. One question is why do celebrities need to do it and hide it in the home so as to perpetuate that they look the way they do, why hide it doing it this way. If celebrities would be transparent about what they want to do. Maybe the public could help persuade a few to help making their self worth better maybe to not needing a procedure per se maybe in first place. It would also be great if surgery was not so expensive here that people have to go out of country to do it cheaper. There are reputable lists and services to help those to do it. Yes reviews can be terrible for those who intentionally want to slander or hurt a owners business . Like another competitor or fake person, so it's hard to judge all of them from evil doing in any case. There should only be verified reviews. If the person actually had a procedure or were at that location not just any random person posting to protect the reputations somewhat. Also Peoples depression, suicide, eating disorders relate more at times to a feeling they cant get rid of no matter what or control or trauma issues underlying. Surgery will not fix that. If they dont like something physical about themselves thats different and are trying to improve it . Everyone wants to fix something about themselves they dont like. Some act on it some dont. I was also wondering if Gary ever thought about doing tattooing hair or microblading eyebrows, lash implants on himself due to his condition alopecia since there are these services out there as well.

    I haven't had fillers or plastic surgery as yet at 55 years old. I have been teased about my nose by some during my teens (I live in Brisbane. Australia) but everyone gets teased and bullied worldwide. I think it is time to get the deviation done on my nose, due to the curving making breathing difficult. So both your channels help a lot.
    Keep us up to date and informed, both positives and negatives, patients need to know and feel they are more than just a dollar sign walking in the door.
