- Finally something in the shop that isn't rotting! lol
This week's project is in great condition. It's a large oak dining set, and Trena strips and refinishes it in a shade called Puritan Pine.

Dr Trena: I really like these type of intros to your videos. Where the patient (i.e. the piece of furniture) presents itself and their symptoms to the doctor. Then Dr Trena examines the patient and provides her diagnosis and plan for recovery. And after the necessary advertisement for John’s Furniture Repair, we get to see Dr Trena go to work and ultimately the patient is presented fully recovered!
Trenayou have literally mastered this trade nobody that I have seen can take you on a step by step procedure better than you .I can hardly wait to see your new shop and I wish you the best of luck and send my love from Seattle always Mel
Lol Thankyou
Thankyou Mel
As a woodworker, I always love to see when furniture gets restored and repaired. Cause not only is the furniture revived, it´s also a tribute to the original builder in my opinion.
Artisan of the highest order, it's not until the end when you do the old/ new clips you realise just how good a job you did Trena. Very skilled and dedicated to your craft.
Thankyou
Trena your work is top notch here as always! 👍 Lovely dining set looking even better. 💖
Tha kyou
What a beautiful set. Love the result, and I'm sure the client is happy. Good job.
Trena - the only person I've seen who can actually make varnish-stripping look interesting! 😉
Great job, Trena.
My favourite wood I think. It just looks so majestic when finished, especially after Treena has worked her magic on it.
Thankyou
I’m so glad that this project has the lighter stain! It would be a shame to hide that beautiful wood grain.
Great to see how a color can update a piece. I have an 80’s oak coffee table that I know exactly what to do with now!
That's a hellava table, nice job.
Thanks!
My Canadian friends say the only thing better than watching paint dry is watching Trena stripping paint off ! I agree !! Lol Love you work young lady... Dad must be very proud
Lol Thankyou

Beautiful, as always. I had a few questions for you but it pays to read through the comments as all were answered by doing so. Incredibly generous of you to be sharing your craft. I hope the return is worthwhile. This one deserves several coffee's!
thankyou so much!
It looks like some family will be celebrating Mother's Day around a newly refinished table and chairs. It looks beautiful. Worthy of celebrating.
Yes thankyou
Trena. Love this one. Changing the color of a good set of furniture. Also loved when you bleached a whole set of furniture for a customer. You made the stripping look easy. The joy of time lapse photography. ❤U🙏U
The chairs in ranks put me in mind of chess pieces, 5* channel btw. 😄👍
Out of all hard wood I love oak the best then comes cherry
Wow, what a big job. I love oak. You did a masterful job in coloring this down to a warm dark color. Love it!
That finished look is fantastic. Really works well with the oak.
Seriously fantastic colour a lot of hard work has gone into this looks amazing, absolutely love the grain on the table top very impressive job excellent 👌
Really enjoyed this video, high quality work on quality furniture!
I wish you lived closer I have a couple of pieces of furniture I would love to have you do.
Lovely work! I appreciate your explanation of what you're doing.
Thankyou
Fine work, Trena, beautiful result.
WOW!! just wow!
Nice color on that oak. Looks like an older antique vs the somewhat lighter 1980s oak color.
Yea. Thankyou
Absolutely gorgeous. Have to love the warmth and grain contrast after you're done with it.
Wow! absolutely wonderful once again. You elevate every project to the very best that it could be! Thank you for sharing your time, skills, and knowledge with us. OK, just one more WOW!
Beautiful!
Great strip tease!! It's good to see just how much attention you put into finish and color. My favorite pretty Canadian Stripper does it again!
Beautiful oak pieces, glad your client went with the lighter color.
Masterful finish as always.
Holy smokes, what a beautiful table and chairs. I absolutely love oak. The grain is amazing ❤ Awesome job Trena!
I love the velvet like gloss, smooth and luxurious. They turned out wonderful, something i would have chosen if i had own that table and chairs. Love it!
Beautiful, just beautiful…..
Trena!!!!!!! Great Job! It's a beautiful color and finish! A Lot of WORK too!❤
Beautiful job Trena.
Awesomeness at its best! The patients you give to each piece. ❤
I just love your videos. I’m a woodworker who isn’t afraid to build anything, but finishing scares me to death!
Well it’s two different skills for sure
Trena I have to say I was sooo relieved when i seen the stain go on and that it was the color it was. It looks so much better then that darker color would have. Its been a long time since i have done finishing work professionally in a kitchen cabinet shop, I wasn't aware that there was pre catalyzed laquers. I was only aware of thetype you need to add the hardner to.
yes the precat is just a little slower catalyst that the post cat you refer too.
Good lord that was a lot of work. Tedious, repetitive work. Always impressed with how calm and unfazed you are when faced with these challenges, and awesome results as usual. Also impressed with the use of the word "amalgamate". Beauty and erudition.
Hello Trena! Again a wonderful work. The client will surely be more than satisfied with your work. The dining room set is also very nice. Now like new and an exceptional refurbished piece from you. All respect. 👍
thankyou
Awesome as always. You amazing! I learn so much from you, thank you for all your knowledge
Another amazing finish to your work love your videos and your explanation to detail.keep up the good work
Thanks nice to see you always reply to peoples comments keep up the good work look forward to your next video
Great work Trena, I liked the fact that you also answered some of my curiosity queries through your video with little pointers and materials you used. An informative and enjoyable show as always, look forward to the next one!
When you showed the sample color, I went ehhh , but at the end, I am amazed. Excellent outcome. I admire your hard work. Keep it up!
love oak ...this set is beautiful
Lovely work and a lovely colour, best the customer is really happy. 👍🤗
That's a really big table set to begin with.
Yes
Hi Trena! Another winner! 👍
Nice to see you again
So much nicer in darker color, what a great job you made of it
I have table almost identical to this one. I’m going to tackle refinishing this fall. My chairs need to be taken apart and glued back together. Thanks for teaching.
My Dad was a car painter and I have one of his old Devilbiss paint guns. At 73, I don't think I'll be using it, so if you want it, I'll send it to you.
I think I have lots but that is very nice of you
Thanks for adding a bit more info related to the finishing process (e.g. the value of hand dusting and the use of a catalyzed lacquer and why). Your work is SO GOOD and I feel like I learn something from each video. This one will get bookmarked partly because I have a dining table to refinish coming up soon! Blessings!
thankyou Don
That just turned out beautiful Trena! 👏 At first I thought the stain was a little too dark, but when you wiped it off man the oak just popped! 😊 I usually use lacquer for the best finish! Thank you for sharing!
Shop dog makes an early appearance to warn off those of us with a aversion to oak. That aversion should appear in the DSM-5 IMO.
Lol it’s not my favorite wood either
Agreed! Although the darker finishes can be prettier.
Sure like the color, when you showed the color at the start, I darn near had a spasm, cover that beautiful wood that dark, then ya saved me with a color switch, I really like that color, not that it matters what I like as its your client and their choice, but man it was perfect for that aircraft carrier flight deck of a table. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it.
Lol
That huge table shows how good your technique is with a spray gun; you kept it perfectly parallel with the table top. It must have been nice working with a piece, not half rotted.
I had become quite fond of rotting wood and its challenges. LOL. beautiful job as usual.
lol
Beautiful work!
Nice job, that had to be a big job
You did a great job, your work is top notch. That set is beautiful!
What a beautiful dinning room set. You did a wonderful job in bringing it up to date with that beautiful color change. As always an exemplary job.
I've been doing this work here in Michigan for decades. I do things almost exactly the same way. Just a couple of comments. First, I hate doing chairs simply because they're almost all hand sanding. I'd rather do one large table top than one chair. But, chairs need to be done so I grin and bear it. Second, I, too, feel for dirt rather than look for it. The sense of touch tells you way more than the sense of sight in this case.
😉
Beautiful, beautiful result. Great color work. Even though the original finish was in good shape, the refinish is much more attractive.
I agree
Beautiful work. Looks like a big brother to my set. You have amazing patience.
Hahahaha... just had a funny but complimentary, reaction to your video tonight. Many times I watch CZcams on the big TV. I'm kind of bouncing around, a bit of Netflix, maybe some Disney channel or HBO, and then some CZcams. Many of those channels have the option to skip the intro on shows, for goodness sake, I already know they set sail for a three hour tour, let's get to the action. So after your "cold open" I was getting ready to click the skip intro button and realized my mistake and had to laugh.
Lol
An interesting insight to the real workaday jobs a restorer/repair artisan needs to do to earn a living.
Sanding, lots and lots of sanding, oh and there is also all of the sanding 😂😂
Lol yes
I love the look it's not so yellow not. That little softer look makes it so pretty. Those chair are excellent I love high backs. Another great video thank you for sharing.👍
thanks Dennis
Beautiful color and exquisite craftsmanship!❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Again, great job. You know your tints/colors and make everything match.
I'm a sucker for oak, so this was a good set for me to get to see the refinish on. The final color was an improvement over the starting color.
That's a damn big table. Well done.
Que Buena Mano para Barnizar..!!...Muy lindo Tono...Excelente proyecto.....Eres muy Top Trena...!!...ji ji ji..Saludossss.
Love how this set came out
Holy Smokes, that was a lot of Oak ! Well done, the new color is much better.
Sure was
Nice work on a very 80’s oak set. ❤
Love the end results ❤. I thought the furniture looked alright before you even started stripping them. But oh wow! The new colors are so much warmer. Beautiful as always ♥️🇨🇦
Wow, the thought of stripping and sanding those chairs makes my hands ache. I had a set to do for a customer last year, similar to this, farmhouse style, it took me a VERY long time with lots of swearing, and regret at not charging way more. 😄Well done for being so cheerful about it.
yep, gotta make it worth the time, lol
16:25 I also pour the thinner through a sieve, at least it will wash off.
Thank you, Trena! I love watching your work! Makes my day!
As always beautiful job
Beautiful result, I quiet enjoy the shorter version. I feel less guilty about watching CZcams at 1 in the morning x
I really thought you had messed up this one time. Boy was I wrong , this is stunning. I am a big fan of light oak wood but this finish gave it such a rich and luxurious look .I will watch this one over and over again oh how I wish you lived in Dallas texas
Hi, neighbor! I live in Dallas, too. I always look forward to a new video from Trena. I don't refinish furniture, never have been interested until I stumbled on one of these vids almost a year ago. What this woman can do is nothing short of amazing.
@@jrdlabs howdy. I know she does such a good job. And she does it correctly, not just stick some Bondo on it paint it and send it on its way. Do you know where pleasant Grove is, that is my old stomping ground.
Beautiful job.
The table is a duplicate of what I have. I was looking to have the whole set refinished and that was a beautiful color. Love your work!
thankyou
Great job Trena! Take care.
The darker color is really nice. Beautiful work as always!
Thanks
That's good work on the table and chair set.
Thanks!
We had 7kids. Imagine 10 chairs, table with 2 additional leaves and the entire set in thick, solid maple. My parents weren't kidding. Would have survived a direct hit from a 20inch naval gun 😂
Lol nice
really make the graine pop there...
Yes!
Always love your videos. Have you ever heard of using a damp rag on wood before staining? Seems to me that would be a bad idea. You are a true artist. Beautiful table
only in water based
I have a set like that. It’s in reallly good shape too, I’m just hoping it comes back into style before I finish all my other projects and have time to refinish it.
I know it is not your decision to cover up the great natural look, great grains the color of the oak, another outstanding job why I watch every episode. Thanks for the lessons!
liked the sample you showed in the beginning... was hoping it would be as dark as that. even so it looks really excellent. nice work.
Well I watched 1 video of yours and love your work. I appreciate how you humbly take advice or tips from other professionals. I have been binge watching all of your past videos making sure I hit that like button 😊. I can't wait to see when you get moved. I'm excited for you, really. Love your work. From Indiana the Hoosier state.
thanks Larry
That is awesome!
I love wood grain, any wood grain, most of them anyway. Daddy was a carpenter. I used to play with his scraps. Love your work.😊
Dark wood tones are the most widely found, in my state homes.
That is such a nice dining room set! I love that color on oak. It came out very nice.
