As many of these commenters express, I TOO prefer natural wood. However, different customers, different pieces, different desires, sometimes paint is the right choice. And You hit it out of the park on this one!!!! GREAT results! Great video (content, filming, editing) and the casting and lead star! Home Run #2 ! 😉 Seriously, Good Job all the way way around ! 👏
Great instructional video. I used to help my dad in the garage when he had little projects to complete. Later after he was gone I found him keeping me company when I was in my own shop woodworking. I have tried to share this with kids in my neighborhood. It is a good thing to be able to make something from scratch or rescue a piece that has been mistreated over the years. Thank you for what you do.
Love this little table. Too bad your customer wanted it painted but I understand some people want different. I’ve been watching lots of your videos and there’s something about you…be it your talent, knowledge, patience…I don’t know but it just makes you such a gorgeous woman! And this comes from a 60+ married mom of 6! I appreciate you as a role model for young women going into what was considered a man’s job in my generation. A son and a daughter have now started refinishing pieces for their homes and I’ve started teaching my 10 yr old grandson. My granny taught me at around that age too. Thank you again for all that you do!!!
I couldn't have said what I have been feeling watching your content bettA suggestion of aer! Even though change happened in the 70's with regards to acceptance of women in formerly men's arenas I love that your parents taught you without regard to your gender. Keep it going! it still is a marvel to see such a confident young woman, rocking it with your skill and generosity. I sincerely thank you! I'd love to meet you someday
sorry hit send before i sent it.. I was going to suggest that you might include some suggestions on hiow you actually price your work,,,Labor of love doesn;t always mean making a living unfortunately...And I hope you "sign your work", so future generations know who the artisan was whose loving care preserved it for future generations
There's fixing furniture. Then, there's repairing furniture. And then, there's craftsmanship. You, young lady, are are a craftsman. You put thought into what you do, and do a superlative job while thinking of those who may come behind you. Thank you for your videos - I love them!
I'm so glad I found your channel, you are a wealth of knowledge and very confident with your skills. I've been a professional woodworker for 50 years and only watch people that can demonstrate skills and knowledge in the craft. Your father did a great job and you should be very proud of yourself.
While it broke my heart to see that beautiful wood covered in paint, the finish is absolutely flawless. Was surprised to see that the drawer was not dovetailed.
You are such a patient person. Every video seems so daunting when you start and then you break it down in small manageable pieces and tackle each one. I feel like redoing every piece I've done in the past. Great entertainment!
We, too, have a number of satin black finished pieces in our home and they ALWAYS look elegant. This project is no exception. It is a lovely finish and, of course, thorough and meticulous work by you, as always. Proper preparation is the key, as you well know. Well done!
I appreciate that you put a sealer coat on before painting. As one who has stripped coats of paint from an antique only to find that the paint is in the grain permanently I wish everyone did that.
Your work is truly amazing!! I’ve learned so much from watching your posts. I enjoy working with wood and I’m soon going to start refinishing an old birch dining room table and chairs, I’m just a novice trying to do my best to preserve the beauty of old wood. Thanks for your professionalism!!!
I have watched several woodworkers and guitar makers that have struggled finding a grain filler that doesn’t require a ridiculous number of applications. You nailed the finish on this.
At the beginning my heart screamed 'noooo, please don't paint that beautiful wood!'. At the end my heart screamed 'I have to have that table!'. It is gorgeous! Such a masterful job.
Makes me sad to think you are having to paint it black….(addition: finished watching and it turned out amazing….I still like nice wood not to be painted, but I can also appreciate amazing work, just stunning)
Looks like it just left the factory. It really turned out well, but after watching a couple of prior videos, I had no doubt it would. I’m probably in the minority, but I don’t mind seeing wood painted, when I think I might not care for something painted black, I just think about my beautiful grand piano, painted ebony, and it’s so so beautiful. I’ve seen a few houses around my neck of the woods with cabinets painted black and it’s not off putting to me at all. I just try and keep an opened mind which at my age (78) is not always easy to do. 🤗
Hi. Yes this is beautiful but have a look at Trena's vid entitled 'stop looking at my chest'. At one stage I thought she was finished and I was impressed but she wasn't finished and OMG. Please watch 😃
What a gorgeous piece of art. Incredible how nice this little piece turned out. Sometimes You Tube algorithms sends us a gem of a channel and I must say, yours is up their with the best.
A very nice restoration, although I prefer the original wooden version. Fortunately, you have protected it so that the next owner can bring the table back to the condition originally intended by the carpenter. Nevertheless, the pretty little table is still in use and does not end up in the trash like so many beautiful, solid furniture.
Only thing, who will recognize there is beauty under an old black surface? Painting a piece ultimately condemns it unless, rarely, someone recognizes what is under the paint.
I really didn't think I would like the black but with all your expertise in sanding and preparing for the finish it turned out really beautiful. The final finish, on my computer, looks a bit like a l dark pearl grey, maybe that was the light reflection. Your talent shows another expert job. Thanks for sharing.
Generally, I don't care for black finishes, but this looks terrific. One word from an old museum curator, Brasso is not your friend. Most people never properly remove all of it and continues to eat away at the metal. A product such as Nevr Dull is safer. Here is what the Canadian government has to say to museum curators: "Be cautious of commercial polishes such as Brasso. Those formulated for automotive or stainless steel cleaning often contain very hard particles which can scratch the softer alloys of copper. Some products contain tarnish inhibitors that leave a film on the surface, making further treatments difficult. Many metal polishes contain ammonia, which can dissolve copper in some conditions." Love your channel!
Your knowledge, skill, and attention to detail is a wonder to watch. I know where I am taking any restorations. Watching your professional work and process is so relaxing and meditating. Will send to all my friends and hope your channel expands 100 times over in the coming year.
Hi Trena - this little table is exquisite- when you think of how tired and wobbly it was in the beginning- as usual you worked your miracle again! I was thinking about you the other day, and how it's a shame people miss out on your lovely teaching skills- and SUDDENLY REALISED YOU'RE still teaching.... ALL OF US!! lol ..... Which is wonderful. I love the way you share explanations of what/why and how you're doings things- its so wonderful. We're all learning and you're reaching a much larger audience now too! Keep up your exciting work.Blessings from Australia! 🥰
I love small end tables or storage pieces like this one. That wood was so gorgeous I wasn't sure I'd like the black, but the black is beautiful. The sheen is buttery smooth and luscious with the cutest little drawer pull. What a lovely piece. Excellent job!
I love your videos for not only because you share the techniques you use to strip and finish a piece but you take the time to explain the products you use and why. You are a true master of your craft and your patience is greatly appreciated, thank you for sharing your craft.
Beautiful work! The time and effort is so rewarding! I enjoy refinishing wood pieces as well . I’m learning as I go. I’ll continue watching and learning. Thanks!
Nice job. Love the colour of this peice. Its great you look after the next generation of restorers by clear coating before painting. Hope they appreciate it in 50 years time. I'm sure this item will still be around.
Excellent videos. You are doing a great job with your videos. I just recently bumped into your videos and have watched a bunch of them, and all are just perfect. Very clear. I even enjoyed your garden and shop tour videos. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks
You’re a real craftsman, and a perfectionist. My Dad was a wood turner and the same as you. Well done and a beautiful finish. Thank you for sharing your talents. Hi from Nelson, NZ
I’ve been refinishing furniture since my teens. I keep watching all your refinishing videos because I keep learning new things. Your attention to detail and the pride you have in your work is wonderful. So many people have lost that pride. That table looks so much better! If a good wooden piece of furniture no longer fits a modern space, why not reuse it by painting it rather than sending it a landfill site? The next piece you buy will most likely be made mostly of particle board - not long lasting and will definitely be in a dump in 5 years.
Beautifully done, Trina. Your customer will be thrilled with this now wonderful piece of furniture. All that is lacking is an orchid popping out of a Chinese blue and white vase, so elegant!
As many of these commenters express, I TOO prefer natural wood. However, different customers, different pieces, different desires, sometimes paint is the right choice.

I really appreciate the fact you seal the wood before painting so it can be returned to its original beauty. Turned out beautiful for a painted piece
you did a beautiful job on this table Trena. Love the way you explain everything. Thanks again!

Hi. Yes this is beautiful but have a look at Trena's vid entitled 'stop looking at my chest'. At one stage I thought she was finished and I was impressed but she wasn't finished and OMG. Please watch 😃
When you said you were going to paint the table black, I was thinking NO!! but that finish you achieved is stunningly beautiful.
Thankyou
A remarkably smooth finish. Your attention to detail is a step above most I have watched restore tired furniture. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous! You are so talented!
The black looks great - but the wood looked better. Great job!
Surprised how good black can look! Very well done.
I like the Tudor rose design of the knob.
Thank you.

Thankyou June!
I'm not a huge fan of painted furniture, but this turned out really nice! Great Finish.
Thanks for watching Heather!
Amazing beautiful piece
Beautifully done, Trina. Your customer will be thrilled with this now wonderful piece of furniture. All that is lacking is an orchid popping out of a Chinese blue and white vase, so elegant!
Oh! That would be pretty. Thanks for watching
That is a beautiful piece now
Looked great in black, but it would have looked tremendous in a wood finish. A pity to paint over nice wood grain. Great job, as usual!
Now here is a credible channel! Very fine work indeed!
Thankyou!
Looks good. Well done. X
