This desk was in rough shape. Trena does extensive veneer, cane, and structural repairs. Be sure to check out Part I, "Fit for the burn pile" - Jak na to + styl
I’m so glad that in these days of throw-away culture there are still people with the skills to repair and restore - and equally glad that there are people prepared to pay for such expert work. What a beautiful result!
Me too! Love my customers!
This video is even more enjoyable because of your curious helper. What a well-behaved cutie!
I didn’t know you had a sense of humor! That whole distressed shtick was pretty funny. Thanks so much for your channel, I’ve learned a lot, much more than what I learned in finishing classes.
Lol. Glad you liked it.
Trina has a great sense of humor! See her many LOL video titles. ❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, that whole distressed thing had me in stitches! Especially when she “elbowed” it! 🤣🤣🤣
I particularly liked the foam cups, and if I'm not mistaken I think I saw a sharpie chucked as well.
Rudee!
Using my legendary powers of observation and my world renowned math skills I've determined that you've been working on the Desk-zilla project since Jan.17th. I came to this conclusion by counting the number of times you were wearing different pants...Another incredible restoration..
Lol. Nice work!
Lol
That is so stalkerish ... but in an innocent way! Hilarious 🤣
And I thought I was OCD! 🤪👍🤗
"There was a void in the veneer..." Poetry and incredible craftsmanship...I was really looking forward to part 2 to see the final result. Brava, Trena! Beautiful work.
Thankyou!
That was such a fun project. Even though I will never do anything like this, I learned a lot. Beautiful work.
Thankyou!
I see shopdog is staying right on top of it, making sure you do not mess it up!
She sure is 🤣
I like how, when explaining something you are always running your hand over the wood, tapping, assessing and even, sometimes, caressing the pieces. Amazing work on this one.
The owner must be over the moon with that ! That is a amazing transformation.
love the destressing bit. made me laugh!
beautiful piece ! oak veneer is well matched indeed. keep up the great work!
Lol thanks!
Back in the late 60's I worked for Oklahoma Fixture during the summer. Distressing new stuff with chains was always fun. Thanks for bringing back those memories. Great work as usual and glad you did the before and after. I'd forgotten how bad it was.
Thanks for watching!
From and ugly duckling to a swan. As always, beautiful fine details executed perfectly!
What a joy to watch her come alive again. She is simply lovely. Well done. I appreciate your calm, thoughtful restoration.
Thankyou!
Watching you re-glue the veneer reminds me of my late father (an MD) using 20 cm-long amniocentesis needles to get glue under veneer.
The distressing!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Glad I could make you laugh
This desk WAS worth all the work to repair and restore it. It LOVELY!! ❤
I think so too!
It would be nice to see your customers reactions to the wonderful restorations you do do!
This piece is beautiful and your finesse & patience is to be applauded in your endeavors to recreate this and many of the others you have done
THankyou!
My compliments on your good judgment in employing such an intelligent shop assistant
Always will trust four-legged shop workers quicker than two-legged ones
Thank you for your excellent work and your appreciation for the beauty of the wood
Talk to the wood about distressing it. Emotional therapy so the wood fits on with its friend. Love it❤️❤️❤️
Great job, I can see why you called it Desk-Zilla!. years ago I put an Elevator in a furniture factory and they set this gorgeous hutch next to the opening on the first floor. Oak and the grain was beautifull. I was up in the hoistway working and I heard this clanging noise??? so went down to investigate and two guys were standing front and back, beating on the Hutch with chains!. as hard as they could swing and hit it. When I asked why? I was told to creat worm holes and to distress it. I almost cried when I saw that. Pro-gress! ya gotta love it!. Oh I think they called it "Technique" ECF
Lol
What you did is absolutely beautiful! You are very meticulous in the way you repair items. I hope you were well paid for your work.
Yes. My customers are Awesome!
Wow, once again, this is craftsmanship at its finest. Thank you, Trena, for showing me that.
Thanks again!
Smiling watching Shopdog so attentive. Laughing out loud about distressed wood
You always amaze me with your quality of work and knowledge of your craft. Thank you for the insight into your work.
Thankyou!
Really enjoyable and informative. Love the sigh of resignation when having to use nails. Not seen veneering with hide glue done that way before. My first encounter with hide glue was in pearl form - smelt abominable. It was rapidly abandoned for a thermoplastic adhesive film to complete the projects.
The final toning of the fresh veneer was masterful as usual.
Such skill and patience.
Thankyou!
From beat up back to beautiful. What a result!
Hard work, I could watch it all day. :).
The joy of being retired.
I enjoy watching you work, flying by the seat of your pants! Nice job Very simple and effective techniques, love you Trena...Dad.
thanks dad! love you!
I would be so proud to own this piece, knowing all the work and attention that has gone into it. Dare i say love?
Reflecting upon all that was needed to effect this amazing restoration, I would say it was a difficult journey, but one with a beautiful finish. Bravo!
"It's not a big deal, if you make a mistake: it's only a big deal, if you leave it!"---thank you Trena! I Love it!
Emotionally distress your wood! This is priceless, Thanks for this tip. Love you.
A remarkable restoration. You should be extremely proud of this.
BTW, I bought the little scraper you use from Lee Valley. I like it a lot, so thank you. I have learned a lot from your videos.
Oh awesome. It’s so handy! Cheers
love the before and after shots at the end. Nicely done.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Desk design in woodworking has been a deal with me for many years.
When I made the desk I'm writing on, I finished everything before I assembled my desk. I'd broken the mission desk into sub assemblies which made glue up a lot easier. Never did anchor the top. Well done.
Absolutely fabulous. Thanks for sharing your many talents/gifts with us. 💕💕💕
Thankyou for watching
amazing that you could salvage this. I learned a lot.
Distressing the wood was hysterical, thank you, I am learning so much.
I am rolling on the floor laughing watching you distress everything. There’s just some days and there’s just some projects that need it.
I learn something different with every video. Thank you so much for showing the correct way to restore and preserve these gorgeous antiques! =-)
Thank you for saving this beautiful lady;
she'd waited 4 so long for this rescue!
A more skilled pair of hands, a more meticulous & thoughtful artist/craftsperson doesn't exist, & I'm very glad it was you that took on this restoration. Now, this piece can, once again, be seen as she's meant 2 b seen- - and useful, as originally intended! 🎉
You are welcome!
Your love and patience for your art is outstanding.
As always, amazing job!!!

I know that you take your work seriously, but I want to thank you for making it fun to watch. I subscribe to other restoration channels that do things so stoically. I appreciate your sense of humor and the times of playfulness. It helps me relax and forget the heaviness of life for a little while. Thank you.
