I had to double the price for this!

- Check out the old mortise and tenon construction on these rare rosewood chairs! The natural rosewood doesn't need any stain, just a clear coat.

So hard to believe the amount of skill needed to carve those beautiful chairs. This person left a wonderful legacy
Thank you for saving those chairs from electric blue! Nice job.
I am so glad you convinced your customer to make her chairs BEAUTIFUL.
Oh, the thought of painting rosewood hurts me. I understand a lot of people see furniture as a canvas, but I see pieces like this as nothing less than a piece of rosewood ARTWORK!!!!! Nobody would cover a Renoir with chalk paint and appliquĂ©s! Respect artwork, whether it's a painting or a piece of handcrafted furnitureâŁ
Fantastic! I was fully prepared to scream if you painted those blue after knowing that they were rosewood. LOVED when you convinced the customer to change their mind. And also when you deftly revealed that you had "donor" chairs to bring into play. Lastly, so cool that you included the customer reaction. That should be a part of every video IMO.
Yes! I loved seeing their reactions too
In defense of the painting, it was a frankenchair. I think the original painter should have found a better way to combine painting the repairs and keeping parts of it as rosewood.
I missed the donor chair part! Darn it.
Oh I just found it...I spoke too soon!
It is a long video and the blue intent made me cringe, so I jumped to the end and couldn't see any blue ! Just dipped in & out of the video since, all in wrong order. It looks very interesting. I must check it from the start, properly, when I get the time.
Twice the price, and five times the work! You're a treasure, Tren. You guided the owner toward the most beautiful potential of those chairs, and threw yourself into making that happen. Your craftsmanship is just unparalleled, and it's a pleasure to see how you do it. Awesome. Those chairs are now a new heirloom for that family.
How TF can eleven people dislike this video? It is a stunning display of artistry and skill..
Well done.
Probably guys whose wooing she rejected.
Jealousy, maybe? People can be like that.
Those are the people with zero taste and have their places decorated in electric blue and pink.
Jealousy?
My guess is they disliked it as soon as she said the chairs were going to be painted electric blue!
Then couldn't stand to watch that injustice take place. Clicked "dislike" and left the video before seeing end result. (My best guess because I almost did the same. LOL )
Beyond repairing, what you do is rescue and restoration of forgotten treasures. I am your fan.
This very talented woman could mend a broken heart !
And you wouldn't see the seam!
Yeah right not possible.....
I think she did! ;)
Those rose wood chairs turned out beautifully. Complicated repair.đđđđđ
Fantastic job as the man said a work of art. Love rosewood your patience and dedication and love for your work shines through.CHARLES.
Thank you for being an advocate for the natural finish. There are few things in this world I find more offensive than seeing fine quality, rare and uniquely patterned hardwood lumber hidden beneath an opaque finish, especially so when it's applied over ornate and complicated mill work, such as is found in antique stairs, wainscot, and fine furniture.
Amazing job. So glad you convinced her to go back to natural wood!
I love it when you "geek out"! Rosewood has always been one of my favorites. Gorgeous work.
It's beyond me why hand made rosewood chairs were ever painted. You are so talented and made them an object of pride. Your a person who appreciates these works and the hard work that went into them. They are truly beautiful again. I am so impressed. Keep up the great work.
Iâm sure they were painted because there were so many breaks in the wood, and no one could save themâŠuntil Trenna!! đ
Very glad you were able to restore this to original unpainted wood. Blue paint over that wood would have been a crime. :)
No guts no glory! You are fearless Trena...not intimidated at all. So awesome! Not many would have been able to pull this off. The gambit of skills you displayed here is amazing...woodworker/finisher/artist/magician, etc. Your temperament/patience is such an asset in what you do. Pat yourself on the back Trena...these are beautifully brought back to life! Your father would be proud. By all means we'd love to see your clients reaction!
customer reaction is at the end
@@johnsfurniturerepair Thanks...they'll treasure those chairs!
These chairs are beautiful. Iâm glad the customer chose to take them back to the original wood.
Fantastic job with these chairs. đ
First of, have to say you did an excellent job on the repairs and refinish, they look absolutely beautiful.
Started off watching and honestly could not believe when you said what they were made of and that they were not going to strip and finish natural, but paint them again. Thank you SO MUCH for letting the customer know about the quality of the wood these chairs are made of and gently "push" to re-finish them and let their natural beauty show. Cannot believe someone actually would have thought to paint them black over the natural beauty of the wood.
I had a customer call me to his house to give a quote on painting the woodwork in his lavish home office. From the door to the raised panel walls, the two pc baseboard, 3pc crown with dental moulding, bookshelves and fireplace mantle. I asked why he wanted it painted. He answered just to update the look. Thats when i told him all his woodwork was actual mahogany. He still seemed nonplussed. After explaining that none of the parts were store bought and that someone had custom cut and built the pieces to make the room and the estimated cost of material alone being upwards of 25k he still wanted a price. I told him i was thebwrong guy to call and i would never paint it for any price. Never heard back.
I loved the âgeeking about a chairâ comment. And I am also glad to see you were wearing your respirator when you did the clear coat spray.
But what amazing work you do. It is very clear that you enjoy this work and combined with your skills, these chairs have been given a new life and the customer has a piece of practical art at home.
I canât imagine painting rosewood - such a beautiful and now very rare wood!
The added investment the owner agreed to just made these pieces worthy of auction resale versus a yard sale. Very wise move.
Love to see the clints face when they see these! Nicely done!
I seriously was about in tears when you were going to paint those chairs blue! Definitely one of the most beautiful woods. So thrilled they had you return them to their original glory! I was thrilled to get to see them restored! Now these little chairs can be cherished heirlooms for generations to come. You did an amazing job on these!
Those chairs turned out amazing, I'm so glad the customer went ahead and had them restored! I can't imagine how they would have looked electric blue when they are so gorgeous! Fantastic job.
A real pleasure watching someone work that takes pride in their work . You seem to take each piece as if doing it for a loved one not taking any short cuts
Took a lot of time, dedication and love. You concurred them my dear. They are lovely and perfect đș
I love it when old furniture is stripped down to the original wood, it's like going back in time, seeing the wood as the original builder did. I am in suspense (a little) when you're taking apart the chairs. When you're hammering on the chairs, I'm holding my breath and keep thinking 'Don't break it! Don't break it! Don't break it!'. Then a sign of relief when it comes apart in one piece and I can breathe again. I am always impressed with your knowledge and craftsmanship.
Girl you are so talented I love those heart chairs. Great job and God has given you a talent. So be proud of yourself. Canât wait for another video..
Nola đ§
So happy she changed her mind on the paint! These are spectacular! Well done!
That was so much work, so many steps, so much detail and so much knowledge of how to. I'm so glad your customers chose to restore rather than repaint, AND that they brought these chairs to you to restore and refinish. You did an excellent job. They're gorgeous! Your customers are going to love their 'new' old chairs. I know I would. Thanks for this video, it was really fun to watch.
Like you, so glad the went back to how they originally were. The Rosewood is stunning, and your care and attention to details made them all the more beautiful.
Grateful to your clients for being willing to be recorded when reacting to the reveal. I understand many of us are uncomfortable being recorded for public display but they helped round out this adventure for us to its conclusion as we accompanied you.
I don't care if someone wants to film me, I don't have anything to hide, so film away so everyone in the world can see me, go for it. But some people flip out, like your invading their privacy. I use to dance out in public in front of large crowds of people dancing and people loved it .
It was called,
The Dr Luv Dance Show and that is why that my nickname is Dr Luv . But it has never bothered me if someone wants to film me anywhere .
amazing Trena! your definitly a master craftsman. good Job!
You did a great job on these chairs. So glad you convinced your customer not to paint them. Now they look royal.
My heart sinks every time you take pieces of furniture apart, and then magic begins, like a fairy tale.
Loooove your long videos â€
FABULOUS! Your hard work shows how professional you are. The rosewood just looks elegant. I love watching your precision. So glad your customers are very pleased. Thanks for sharing
I am so glad you convinced her to restore those. How wonderful!
I love rosewood too. Can't believe anyone would want to paint it. I've never seen anyone totally take furniture apart before to refinish it. What a labor of love. You are so talented.
thankyou!
We could tell you really enjoyed bringing these chairs back to their former gory, we also enjoyed watching you do the work you are so passionate about.
So beautiful! I'm glad the client let you go with the natural wood. I don't believe they will ever look at those chairs and say, "Gosh, I wish we had gone with that electric blue." I love that heart inset in the backs. They're perfect! đđâ€
Excellent as usual! Thank you for showing the customers reaction too.
I like the interactive part with the customer's surprise.. đ
let it never be said again that a square peg can not be coaxed into a round hole. thanks so much for sharing Trena
You do beautiful work. It just makes my heart melt to see things brought back from the dead.
MalgrĂ© le mauvais Ă©tat du dĂ©part,le rĂ©sultat est magnifique,, Ă bientĂŽt r Jeannot đ đ
My goodness, you have the patience of Jobe, excellent work. I learn something new every time I watch your videos.
What a beautiful save! A lot of in-depth thought went into how to deal with reconnecting and fixing the prior repairs. You are masterful in matching the stain of those areas! Thanks for your thoughtfulness sharing the owners receiving the finished pieces, they appeared delighted.
The differences on the back seem to me to be a subtle king and queen. So glad to see the return to original. Those pieces are gorgeous. Your level of skill is impressive. As a woodworker of 40 years i am happy to see these chairs be saved and skillfully restored. I loved the stain match as well. I had a carpenter i used to finish behind that had a bad habit of using 3 different kinds of wood to finish trim like wainscotting with chair rail and baseboard. Trying to match colors so the room did not look blocky was quite a challenge. Thx for the video. Will check back for more.
Glossy electric blue would have been criminal. So glad your customer changed her mind. Beautiful work.
The chairs say thank you for stripping us back to our beautiful original selves. You did a splended job.

I drool over Rosewood too. My daughter shakes her head - but drools over hand-dyed expensive knitting yarn. So glad you saved it from blue paint even if it was a ton more work for you. Superb work as usual and beautiful results.
Same thing but from a different perspective using different materials.
Those chairs are absolutely stunning. I live in the U.K. and we are no longer allowed to import rosewood. All the good repair shops have a guarded stash of bits of rosewood for carrying out repairs.
I was taught to French polish by my grandfather and I would have loved to get my mitts on those two. Just love wood!!
You did a really good job and you should be so proud of your achievement, thank you for letting us join you on this journey.
What is French polish?
@@geralyn-mm French polish is a varnish like polish. It is made by dissolving shellac in spirit. It is not the easiest method but it gives a wonderful shine to furniture. Because the polish is spirit based, the surface can be dissolved in most spirits including alcohol. Therefore putting a glass of anything alcoholic on French polish is asking for a disaster. I found this very true when my dad put a glass of something alcoholic on my freshly finished table. Hope this helps.
Why arenât you allowed to import rosewood into the UK?
@@AlexanderMason1 because the wood is endangered. Like ivory, it to is banned unless you can prove it is an antique.
@@AlexanderMason1 itâs not just the UK. Itâs to do with CITES, which is the convention on international trade for endangered species, and requires import and export permits to move the wood both in and out of any participating country. Itâs the same convention that restricts worldwide ivory trade. Both the UK, Switzerland and most of the EU are exceptionally strict on this, but itâs far from the only countries involved. At this point, all the Dalbergia species are covered, not just Brazilian rosewood (also African blackwood, cocobolo, kingwood, tulipwood etc.), as well as some non-rosewood species such as lignum vitae, pernambuco/brazilwood and others.
Itâs still possible to buy rosewood from specific suppliers that sell ethically harvested wood, at least for luthiers (musical instruments), because musical instruments gained exemption status in 2019, but other items like furniture are pretty heavily controlled.
I canât believe that something so beautiful would be painted. Wow, they are really wonderful now. Thanks Trena. Great job as always.
Thanks so much đ
I just love to watch true professionals at work. So interesting and amazing to see the transformations. I cringed several times when you were taking them apart, but you know what you are doing. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing the videos!
So happy you were able to rescue these chairs. You did a masterful job. Absolutely amazing! This nearly brought tears to my eyes.
Oh my gosh those are the most gorgeous chairs of repair. Iâm so glad the owners change their minds of painting them
They said it all and I agree, beautiful!!
They look gorgeous after your loving restoration!
thank goodness the client changed her mind and decided to go with the natural rosewood.đ
Absolutely gorgeous. You don't see quality like that today!! So glad they finished natural rather than coloured. đđđđ
Keep safe and well.đđ
Rosewood chairs looks so beautiful properly finished like that, its great she decided to allow you to invest the time to repair them correctly. They really do look fantastic.
Augh! When you said painted Rosewood I was sick! When you said electric blue, I thought people had lost their minds! Thank God you restored them to their natural beauty!
Trina, This project is a 10 out of 10. Thank you for showing us the transformation process. You are an absolute artist. A piece of art.
I think it is a 20 out of 10. I am so glad you added the customers reaction. The gasp from the lady and the gentleman said a work of art. That said it all. And in heaven the original worker is thanking you for redoing his artistry. When you showed the blue swatch in the beginning I gasped and went no, no, no.
Gentle correction her name is Trena with an e
I've never seen Rosewood. It is luscious! What a pair of stunning chairs you've saved and returned to their original beautyđđ€. Trina, you are a true artist đš đđđđ
It was wonderful to see how appreciative the customer was when they saw the finished product. More customer reaction videos, please.
Putting love and skill into these chairs has made them special.
Very very nice. Glad to see women doing more in the old âcraftsmanâs type tradesâ. Iâm a fan for life!
Absolutely beautiful, what a great restoration you are an inspiration thank you for sharing
I think of the craftsmanship and pride of trade that went into making those chairs and I appreciate you bringing them back to that stage. Beautiful work for two tired old chairs. So much has been lost in pride and craftsmanship. You do great work!
You went beyond restoration! You gave them a rebirth!!!!
I'm going to have a nice sit down tonight and watch the whole vid. I love when utube vids go in deep. đ
Beautiful work đ đ
Rosewood and Mahogany are my two favorites and Yew are so lovely, you are so blessed to have had someone so detail oriented as to oily wood and strength of the main body structure in mind. I hope you are in mind of training someone as an apprentice so all these details arenât lost in generations to come. It is an art to do what you do, applause applause! I really enjoy watching you love each piece. I wish I were younger I would love to apprentice under you.
I can hear the pain in how you told us she wants them PAINTED, so glad you were able to change her mind!
WOW ! . Absolutely great repair. I really liked the closeup âtid bitsâ along with the perfect music very therapeutic.. thanks..
Once again, another stunning restoration job, your client must be over the moon with the work you have done, brilliant
Fantastic Trena! Hello from the uk; I've been searching for ages for some little tips and Bang! you've shown some. Your pieces are when Asia met Europe because certain aspects are pure oriental such as the rails and certain tenons but in oriental rosewood furniture there would never be through tenons and pegs showing or end grain other than the bottom of legs. I'm presently repairing a Chinese horseshoe chair and dining chairs but only with pearl glue as basically the central heating causes them to shrink and loosen.
You have made the owners aware of such beauty and done justice; keep up the great work and look forward to your next video.
They look wonderful. SO glad they did not end up electric blue!
That was a reconstruction not a restoration. Absolutely incredible. Well done.
Thank you for running so many emotions from appalled at the idea of electric blue to delight when the final coats were applied. Your skills are so impressive too from such delicate and accurate touch-ups to hammering for all you're worth with a mallet. So brave, so caring. Brilliant!
So stunning. I was so glad when you said you sent the client a picture to see if they knew the chairs were rosewood. Really beautiful. I loved watching the stripping of the paint off them.
It would be so cool if you were to have a few customers ever so often, come in and see their items for the 1st time and get their reaction. I bet it would be TIMELESS and the viewers would really love that also.
Beyond what I thought could be done, you are a wonderful teacher Treena . The guitar music when youâre not explaining is pleasant !đ
Wonderful! I loved that the client wanted them back to its original wood. You do outstanding work and definitely take in preserving the originality of the piece. Love your video.
Great job! You did justice to that lovely, very special wood!
You do an excellent job with rosewood - i make furniture and have never used rosewood but i am totally impressed with the grain. Good job!
this is a classic for you .. having to take the chairs to bits .. re building them .. the detailing you achieve to blend everything in.. is just amazing .. a real craft.. amazing job.. AND the music is just the best too xx
Stunning! I'm so glad the customer agreed to go with the original rosewood. I hate to say it, but I think a shiny, electric blue would have been hideous.
Thank goodness! My heart sank when you said it was to be painted. Whew! Trena, where did you learn all your knowledge? I am guessing a lot from your Dad and some more from experience but is there more? I am always amazed by all that you do so expertly. No matter what shape it arrives into the shop it always leaves absolutely stunning.
I have the same questions..is this something she grew up doing, school; both?
Good thing they were not painting electric blue. You out did yourself. Absolutely a work of art!
Fascinating to watch and listen to a true artisan as she approaches a challenging project and restores the pieces to their original beauty.
It is fantastic that you geek out over rosewood or other timbers you like. It shows how passionate you are about your work Trena. Bit far away from me in Australia to get furniture repaired by you ;)
Love your work as always.
They have been beautiful. You have done a very fine job.
I love your skill, and the delicacy with which you give the touch-ups. What you do, more than restoration, is art. I'm almost envious of your ability. Congratulations!
They look fantastic đđđ
WOW!!! What a Craftsman You Are!! Those are the Most Stunning Chairs!
A Beautiful Work of Art!
Thank You so very much for sharing!
Not only is this an incredibly beautiful project, but thank you so much for sharing the details of your tinting, coloration, and finishing techniques.
Absolutely gorgeous and what a miracle job on all the repairs and color matching. So glad we got to see that beautiful natural rosewood finish come back to life.
Beautiful. I'm glad the customer decided to let you restore instead of paint. You did a fantastic job.
What a great save on your part. And I almost missed seeing the clients looking at the chairs. Glad I didn't. That was great seeing their reaction.
