- In this video I bust out the dial indicator and find out both my axle flanges are bent causing my brake pads to flop around and make a bunch of noise. I replace them with some new shafts and it is good to go. These are 35 spline Yukon axle shafts with Timken SET20 bearings in my built 1980 F150 Ford 9 inch rear axle.

Thanks for the videos Kelly and thanks for your service sir.
Great video Kelly!
Thanks for the video! How do you know if it's not caused by the bearing vs. the axle?
Love the build Kelly super surprised the shaft was so far out, I was wondering what size coilover you used and what bracket
Love the channel and your amazing TJ
Ive had bad luck on my rear 44 with yukon shafts twisted splines all the way around the shaft warrantied them got east coast gear supply shafts and zero issues new yukons are now spares
How much is the acceptable runout on axle flanges?
Did you feel any vibration with the axle bent?????? And if you do at what speed???? I can’t find the source of vibration in my truck
Mine is a way diffrent set up in my 3/4 ton of course but I need to make sure and figure out how or if my axle is bent.
I have a question about a back axel on a truck and say if there was something wrong with the axel and say that person was touching the axel to see if there was something wrong can he get shock or burnt by it if the car was turn on with motor running?
My friend has a Dodge truck and he's always crawling under it to see if it's damage and i'm just worry that he might get burnt or shock by it and really I don't know anything about car repair so I thought my friend would get hurt while the car was running.
when I 1st heard about this problem of flange bending running giant tires I knew the fix, God model would hve pre-bent flanges b4 the r used on the axle. Ppl didn't understand, but quit simple, if thin plate will bend simple math then bend it making it in press then attach flat plat to the pre-bent plate w/filler brace wedges. This way still ultra thin light efficient axles for spinning but just pre-bent so can't bend while using imposs load used to make flange then 2nd flat thin plate & filler wedges. I only speak english unlike satan santa so hope that was clear enough diff person hearing it. 6 press 20ton bends will b indestructible finish product.
Excellent.
You made that harder than it needed to be KISS.
Just what is the spec for shaft play?
I don't have those problems with my fully trusses and shaved 14 bolt ...you guys and your 🌈 9s ;-)
My trucknis doing this extract thing. I've replaced inner hub bearings rotors caliper pads tires rim all.new. dealer says hubs do not normally warp..
Why u dont run fly wheel hubs?
Hey! How did you rule out the housing though. A bent axle tube would also cause a wobble on the flange no?
Very true, but when I changed the axle shaft the wobble would be the same if it was the housing, not almost completely go away.
So was it just the bearings in the axle tube???
How much an estimate, would this repair cost?
The "Flip" was 144 degrees at the best, not 180. Them "Jumbo" wheels cause "breakage & bendage" when "off roading"--just an expensive hobby. Thanks for the great Video Sir and happy safe Wrenching.
I have the same problem. change the axle shaft and differential fluid and still the same problem
Awesome! I think it's a good ideia check you axle housing if isn't bent. That can cause your axle shafts to bend. Btw what is your front axle?
Yea, there is a possibility that it’s a little tweaked. My front is a hp Dana 44 out of a 76 f150.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 well the thing is here in Portugal i can get easy the rear ford 10.25 from a van but they are 4x2... and i can't get something that pairs with that axle.... but... keep up! 💪💪💪💪
@@MuddyBeards4X4 Have you always used the RCVs in the front or was that an upgrade after some broken shafts? The tires are 40's, right?
Yes, 40’s. I broke one U joint /axle shaft and upgraded maybe a year later. But the break was my fault, I didn’t have my bump stops set up correctly so the tire was stuffed in the fender and then broke the axle. I Didn’t have an issue after I properly set up my bump stops.
could you see the flange looking out of line when it turned??
I bent mines on my old mustang sliding sideways into a sidewalk curb. Destroyed front passenger side rim and rear axle shaft I think. Also cracked my rotor almost into two pieces.
I brought a mustang with that exact problem in okc are you who I brought it from 😂
No way this story is true. No pedestrians?
I did the exact same thing 💀
@@ayybee8184 I lost control in the rain is that hard to believe
@@VonChapo07 lol no i kept it for another year
Did you ever bend one on the 8.8?
Nope, but I also didn’t wheel it very hard or very often. I am doing a much different kind of off-roading now than I did when I had the 8.8.
The consequences when Nate said: pretty easy.
Hahaha 👍
🤣 true
Those bend on street cars, too. It is the torque.
Full floater kit?
🤔 I like your thinking. I think I would do that before going tons.
4:20 not super hard on my jeeps
I'm confused how a bent axle would cause a wheel to wobble...one would think the axle being bent would cause a fixed camber issue but not a wobble...perhaps the axles were in fact bent but it was the bearings also failed (if enough force bent axle then also damaged bearings) causing the wobble...
Think about it..if the flange is bent it will wobble with every rotation
Lol new mine was bent by the horrible squeaking that it was making
3:01 - don't even need the tool; the wobble is obvious look at it from this angle.
How much $$ should a mechanic charge for that job?
My eye can do the same
Bootleg axle shafts.
But not as good
Yukon shafts are garbage that’s how. You can thank TAP and Polaris for the lack
Of quality
Riiiiiight you have no idea how you bent your axles ...... it couldn't have been at the boat ramp...... or at beam me up spotty......
🧐🤣
