    Just used this technique. I am happy to say I didn't find a bent rim, but the process took me up close to my tires to where I could see a deformity in the sidewall. Glad I found that. At least I will go to the tire shop informed.

    Might need to check for cracks if a dent is detected on an alloy rim, alloy rims tend to sometimes crack with impacts, especially custom rims. Just spray dish soap with water to see if any air leaks out of the dent and if it leaks through a crack. If the soap is applied with the car jacked up and there is no leak on a steel or alloy rim, you still might need to check for leaks with the wheel touching the ground because the weight of the car sometimes makes the tire leak through the dent depending where the dent is positioned. Great method to detect dents.

    very true not to put bent wheel in the front. I switched my back wheels to front and suddenly car started tramlining badly on uneven road. When stopping car almost steered to opposite lane by itself. Very dangerous. It turned out my right rear wheel was bent and I didn't even notice that for a few years until switching to right front.

    Just found out my wheel was bent today, had no clue what they were talking about. Saw this video and checked, sure enough, the inside of one of my rims was bent pretty badly. At least now I'm at the end of my journey trying to find out what is causing my vibrations and get it replaced. The old tires were losing air on it.

    Hi boss, Thanks a lot for this video. I will definitely check my tires today.
    I have a question: how does it feel when you driving on a bend tire? I am asking because when I drive in a very slow velocity on flat surface, mainly in the garage in a mall, it feels like one of my tires is oval shaped. It happens only sometimes and only on some type of surface. However when I drive more than let’s say 15 mph I cannot feel anything. Can this be a bend wheel or shall I look onto suspension? I have balanced my wheels, checked the camber and everything put in norm.....

    • @witgangyounotube287
      @witgangyounotube287 Před 4 lety

      totally depends on wheel manufacturer in my opinion, my ford focus mk1 came with alloy wheels and i've hit quite a few curbs at decent speed , and they only got bent sideways, last one i had to leave it at the shop to be straighten out since it was too warped to be counter balanced, but the surprise to me when i saw it was that there was no visible bend in it just the whole thing was not going smooth, like half the wheel was going towards the left and the other half towards the right, no bad up and down , and it was a pretty bad hit, went into a curb with 30-40 km/h at a shallow angle, it was enough to shred a 5 cm hole into the sidewall of the tyre.
      another curb i hit a while back actually was bad enough to bend the brake disk yet surprisingly the wheel was still ok after that.

    • @madde7
      @madde7 Před 3 lety

      Yes its gonna cause damage regardless, but most cars are forward wheel drive so is a lot safer and will last just a little longer hanging on the back end. Still, get it fixed but if you need time to, definitely put it in the back end. (:

  • @raczyk

    Concerning rear wheel drive vehicles, wouldn't it be better for the vehicle to put the bent wheel on the front? May cause vibration and wear suspension/steering parts quicker, but that has to be better than the damage it could do to the rear axles in the differential of a rear wheel drive vehicle.

    After you diagnose a bend you need to remove the wheel and check the hub. If the force was enough to bend a wheel considerably where you can feel it, there is a good chance the hub is also bent furthering the damage to your wallet.....
