Car maintenance is everything. I thought the engine is the most critical part of the car. However, the suspension needs to be taken care as well since it carries the load and overtime, you need to carry necessary maintenance. Having said that, I am extremely grateful to Chrisfix for providing a comprehensive car maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting. I started watching your channel after my father's car overheats in the middle of the road. I was 15 years old back then and I found out my father did not went to change the oil until 60000km.

Sea 2121 i once saw this poor jaguar c-Type where the suspension was not taken care of at all. One full side of the suspension was completely shot. It looked like a drift car. The other side looked fine but I couldn’t help but feel bad for the guy who had to drive that car
What! 60k is a damn long ride on the same oil

This video was literally more helpful than the steering and suspension class I took in college.

I think I'm getting out of my depth after learning so much on CZcams regarding fixing my car... I noticed I have a perished boot and a knocking sound over bumps in the road - way outta my realm of knowledge, I barely know how the suspension on a car works. Then BAM, I pick up my phone and "HEY GUYS!"
I'm doing my first brake job tomorrow on my car following your video (feel very confident) and while I'm there I'm going to reference this video to see what's going on in there, and maybe identify problems. Then down another rabbit hole I'll go.
Chris, your videos are some of the best, simplest, easiest to follow to ever hit the internet. We owe you copious drinks for everything you've taught us.
I really appreciate you doing all of your videos so that us average people can actually understand and learn....YOU ROCK!!!! Thank you for all that you do for us!!!
Chris, you're sending me to the poor-house fixing stuff I didn't even know I had.

What a difference between your old and new videos. You have certainly grown. Thanks Chris.
I’m from a family of male mechanics! You know your stuff and present very well! Thank you!

Thanks a lot Chris! I really appreciate your channel. I'm a person who had no interest in cars before, but watching your videos makes me really eager for summer to come and do these kinds of inspections and fixings on my car. Thanks again and keep it up! You'll probably hear some questions from me in a few months lol

That's what I'm saying! I need to change my struts, but couldn't find anything online besides this about any other things I should check while changing out my struts. Now I know exactly what to look for, but I wish he went into how to check the struts themselves because they usually leak when they go bad and I didn't notice him mentioning that.

Brilliant video, as always! I personally find just looking at the assembly with names of parts is hugely helpful in making sense of suspension from scratch.
+The Dude I'm glad the video was helpful!
ChrisFix first off is like to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos for people like me who can’t afford all the expensive hourly shop rates. My question is I have a 1992 GMC Sierra k1500 with a 6 inch lift. I recently purchased it and was going to try and replace some of the suspension components but I’m not sure if I need ome parts or if due to the lift I will need to order parts designed for vehicles with lift kits?
As a lady who knows jack shit about vehicles, I’m irate because of so many shitty cockroach mechanics and shops that SAY they fix the issue(s), and things seem improved the first week or so, then all hell breaks loose and the problem is WORSE than before I took the car in. That really makes me wake up ready to implode. Why is it such a common thing to have such a high amount of crappy mechanics and auto shops?!? But damn if I’m not digressing.
Whew I got carried away. I’m at a point in life where i want to learn to fix things myself. I want to be an INDEPENDENT WOMAN. Kisses to Beyoncé 😂😝🎤🎹🔥🙌
Thank you Chris I just found your videos today.
Thanks for this video Chris, I have a 1992 Lexus and I’ve bought a good amount of suspensions parts already but haven’t found the culprit. This definitely educates me before I make my next purchase.
This was a great introductory video for folks like me that know other systems but have near zero experience with replacing suspension components.
great video, this video helped me out a whole lot, thanks a lot for making and uploading videos like this one man, we really appreciate it, thanks a lot!
I came across this video from a Google search. I was surprised this was a Chris Fix video because of the lack of energy, lol. I was curious to see the date on the video (2013). Chris, I really enjoy your videos (especially your recent ones)! Thanks for all your help!
Hey Chris, just wanted to thank you for the awesome video's. Even for a Sheila, I am figuring it out ! The multifunctional control switch just went on my PT. So great, you will be walking me through it. Thanks again.

Your videos are a tremendous help understanding what I am about to do to my car.
This is exactly what I wanted to know I’m glad the straight pipes had me add you!
I appreciate your skill and video+ audio work also.
This video explains alot about suspension. I'm in the process of diagnosing whats wrong with my car. Theres alot of rattling when I go over little to medium sized bumps. I will look at everything explained here, thanks Chris!
I'm having the same problem, did you figure out what was causing it?
Yes, I bought some Monroe struts and installed them. Fixed the rattling and it drives smooth now!
Love your videos. They are really helpful. So, I can replace all brake pads and rotors. Now this week i will check and replace my bearing wheel front. I saved so much money and i can enjoy to know my car better. Thanks you.

Cheers for the video content! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Saankramer Vehicle Statement System (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for discovering how to get a vehicle history report without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate finally got astronomical results with it.
Hi Chris I wrote to you before and today I have another question, I also own a Mazda B3000 SE 4x4. Bought it used with a missing manual hob locker. But I noticed a couple of times that you don't have any front manual hub lockers on your Mazda. If this truck suppose to have hub lockers?
to anyone learning use a pry bar . not a hellishly long one but one about a foot or two and pry pretty well on spots that were mentioned to look for play . I was told a while ago that if it moves with the little amount of torque you can supply , when the tier hits the ground and the vehicles ton of weight is on that point it will definitely be moving
Hey chris fix, love your video’s so much info is being shared which is very valuable info ! Quick request if you may could you do a video on cars frame damage ? And everything about it how to know if a car is drivable or not after an accident? Much appreciated thanks!
Great videos as usual! Seemed to me there was considerable lateral play on the driver front wheel. Was there a driver's side ball joint issue at all?
Very helpful vid. Well done. Thank you Chris.
thanks dude
u r doing a great job

Young Chris didn’t wear gloves
Wow. even just learning what the different parts are called is already a big help.
Chris's Fix, you should show how to check a drag link style steering set up in the future. I know most vehicles use rack and pinion today but a lot of guys are confused on how to check a drag link style and even identifying parts: pitman arm vs idler arm etc. just a thought?
Also, I have a 99 4x4 Ranger, it's nice to see one with a frame that isn't rotted to hell. Jim
Video is well done! Concise and very informative.

Awesome as always. Thanks Chris.
@chrisfix so is the movement in the tire due to the one ball joint and the sway bar link?
You can date a ChrisFix video from the enthusiasm in the “hey guys, ChrisFix here” at the start. This one’s an oldie. 😂
Thanks, Chris! That was really helpful!
Hey Chris! Big fan here! I have a 2003 corolla and whenever I turn the wheel left or right at slow speed, there is a squeaking sound. No leaks found so far
Good job. Nice video work.
Great to know, I’ll be checking these out when I do my rotors.
Your videos are spot on.
Thanks for the video. Helped me out a lot.
Which part of the suspension system do you check first when you start to hear a clunking noise, the last time I just replaced the front struts and the noise disappear.
The best suspension video I have watched all day. THANK YOU! Wish I would have found this BEFORE I put the car back together! I did try to wiggle the tire to watch for play and didn't see any but the boot on the lower ball joint is all but gone. The upper and the outer tie rod look like crap too so figure I'll just replace it all. I hear all sorts of rattling when I'm driving (when the road is rough) and it is pulling to one side. Don't know what else to do.
usaclc Glad the video was helpful! I have videos on replacing all of the parts too! See my suspension playlists! I bet it is tie rods and sway bar end links causing your noise.
ChrisFix just watched a bunch of them. Feel like I cheated on you (had to see wishbone lower control arm). So my new arms, upper and lower, arrived - waiting on tie rods. Went through most of the bolts to get things loose so when I have time to swap parts it will go faster. I was going to remove the tie rods but the nut is turning but not coming off the bolt. Frustrating. After a full day at work sanding I didn't have patience for it. I'll pay you $200 to come over this weekend and finish the job. (snicker)
Thank you. Very informative.
Hey ChrisFix! I love the videos, they’re super educational. I was wondering if you could help me figure out a problem for me; I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 and recently I noticed when I go over bumps on the road my truck tries to swerve off. If you could help diagnose the problem it would be most appreciated!
I love you your videos man they're so thorough and you explain things with great patience. I find myself not having any questions after I watched your videos.
Thanks a lot man! Comments like this make it all worth making these videos!
***** Thanks a lot man! I try to do this for all of my videos! I appreciate the feedback!
Hey Chris, question for you just checked my front sway bar links and on the bottom there's alot of play. The sway bar shouldn't move right? if you can respond quickly it would be greatly appreciated but if not I understand.
Love this guys videos
If you had all new parts and were to replace every part you checked in this video (even the struts), in what order would you go? Basically all new suspension (for a 2006 Sonata)
I would think you would start with struts and work down and outward?
Strut/springs
fork
strut mount
stabilizer link
upper control arm
ball joint
knuckle
cv axle
sway bar
lower control arm
inner tie rod
outer tie rod
ball joint
hub
hub bearing
dust shield
rotor
brake pads
caliper
Am I missing anything? Do parts come with all bushings, pins, nuts and washers? I have a 2006 Sonata shop manual set, but even that is geared more towards a trained mechanic and does not walk you through each step.
Thanks mhen, your video is the great video out of all suspension video i have seen by now. Cheers.
No problem! Glad you learned a lot about the suspension!
i certainly did.. appreciate that.
plz upload a video about bad strut mount ... i have change all the bushings ball joints tie rods still i hv a knocking sound while driving ... and i saw that my upper strut mounts coming upwards then usual
I have a 04 pilot mint condition.I have on kyb at the moment. But I feel that o need a softer ride and recommendations? What about original shocks and struts? What are your thoughts?
Hi Chris Thanks for all of the great videos. My 2016 Nissan Altima drivers side feels like it bottoms out on drivers side because I hit a big pothole and it seemed to mess up something. Anyhow, I have the tire off and I was shocked to see how skinny the rod the connects the strut tower to the stabilizer bar. SO I grabbed this rod, and with a twisting motion it moves with like at least a 1/8 to 1/4 inch play. It does not move at the ends of it. I have 115K miles on the car and have replaced the rear shocks, I raised the boot on the strut tower and it is not leaking. with the tire off I tried moving some of the ball joints and cannot find any thing obvious. Is that stabilizer connecting rod supposed to move like that?
Hey Chris. When i move the steering wheel or drive over a bump or uneven road i hear a knocking sound, it sounds exactly as the knocking you would hear on a wooden boat. What this may be? Ball joint?
Hi Chris.. hope you can help. I changed my front shocks on a 2013 Nissan Altima but. I switched the old spring to the new shocks, and
I have a crazy vibration and my motor mounts support are brand new.
I’m trying to find a video on how to mount an action cam to the wheel well to see where a knocking noise coming from when I turn and go down a curb in the same time
Hey ChrisFix. I just got a used Ford Escape hybrid and I've noticed that when I go over small bumps it feels quite aggressive inside the car. Furthermore, I really feel the road surface roughness in my accelerator pedal and in the steering wheel. Now the brakes are starting to squeak more and more. Initially, I thought the springs were on the stiff side but then I did some more research and tried a couple diagnostic things out. I don't bounce a lot when i go over bumps but I do feel a big impulse of force. The road surface vibration in the pedals are starting to make my feet feel that numb sensation when you touch something for a while that is vibrating. I made the dealership aware of it and I hope they take care of it. I thought it could be the front suspension and possible motor mounts, any thoughts? Also, any suggestions on if I should go back to the dealership or get an independent inspection done prior to talking with the dealership? Thanks so much and sorry if this is the wrong kind of question. Great vids, look forward to move of them. Just watch the top 10 cleaning tips, now I just want to wait until there is no snow on the ground. And I totally cleaned some bird poop off my hood with paper towel and some water...now it looks scuffed HAHAHA. Cheers boss!
