When Barriston Selmy rescued Aerys ending the Defiance of Duskendale Aerys had the entirety of House Darklyn killed as well as all of House Hollard, every man, woman, and child. Only young Dontos survived, spared at the request of Ser Barriston to serve as Ser Barristons squire. Sadly Ser Dontos was never a particularly good knight, and even more sadly the whole incident tipped Aerys fully down the path of paranoia and madness

I love Tyrion's character here. He clearly sympathizes with Sansa. He knows she's bullshitting and it's to stay alive. I'm sure if it was within his power he would have her set free so she can go home. There's a lot of those moments of characters in the early seasons who want to help others but are clearly unable to do so and so they must do things against their nature. Like Tyrion having to turn his back on Sansa's abuse. That's the sign of a great drama. Appeals to the audience's emotion by teasing something that could potentially happen a la Tyrion rescuing Sansa, but giving them the gritty reality instead of the circumstances.

  • @c.w.simpsonproductions1230

+jessc1979 it's possible it was a lie but I wouldn't be sure. He never went straight against injustice, even when he didn't like it. When Jeoffrey was having Sansa beated, he just stood there and did nothing. If Jeoffrey had ordered him to beat her, he would have done that, even if he wouldn't like it. If Tyrion didn't arrive, Shansa would have been beaten very very badly that day. Only after Tyrion said he was having none of that and ordered somebody to give Sansa a mantel or something to cover herself, the Hound offered his. He is not in the position to oppose a noble man or a King and it wouldn't be in his nature to do so in any case case, so I wouldn't be sure he lied.
