  • First of all I apologise for the poor Video quality recently. Having some troubles with the camera focus Pfff :(

    This dish is a must try if you like Chayote and Cheese!
    Chayote au Gratin or Gratin Chouchou is a delectable and versatile dish that can be served as an appetiser or a side dish.
    Because of its versatility, this dish can be eaten with bread or with a side salad or any way you want.
    My all time favourite is Potato Gratin.
    You can even substitute chayote by other vegetables such as Potato,courgette,squash,pumpkin,or even seafood yummmm!!

    Nice.. A bit same as I do it bt difference is I mix ze egg 🥚 into ze milk n I boil potatoes 🥔 together Wiv ze chayote.. Zis mixture of chayote n 🥔 bring out gud taste..

      Hi Anisah,
      Preheat your oven at 180c and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

      Hi this recipe is for 3-4 servings.
      For 10 persons i would recommend 3 large chayotes would be enough.

      Yes, you can replace the milk with coconut milk. However, it is going to change the taste slightly. I hope this helps.

    I have boiled 3 chayottes. Do I need to increase the ingredients for the bechamel? Like double the flour butter garlic etc.. Plz advise

      Hi,
      No, you don't have to double the amount of the bechamel sauce. Chayote normally rendered a lot of water specially if you boil it.
      You can add lore cheese if you prefer.
      Hope this helps.

    The secret and the most important thing to do when doing a béchamel is to really cook it (way more than 2 mn as indicated but around 10 mn) to get rid of it’s flowery smell. It is simple but it is going to make you gratin well over the average one.
