2004 GMC envoy stuck in gear easy fix

- please use your parking brake while preforming this repair the vehicle will roll if not used Customer complained that their 2004 gmc envoy will not come out of gear and is stuck in neutral. The transmission shifter cable brand new is about $150 from most stores. But I found a $20 fix that most people can do at home and save some money. Hope it helps.
Thanks brother. I was backing into my garage and the snap ring decided to fall off at that moment when my GMC was fully blocking both sides of the street at night. Immediately pulled up a video and yours came up first crawled under the car put the linkage back on got in my garage rode my bike 2 blocks to AutoZone bought the same part same # and had it fixed in 20 min from the time it broke. I like how you get right down to business. There is nothing worse than a long winded CZcamsr who spends 30 minutes explaining a 2 minute job. Good work and thanks
You saved me lots of Money Today... Outside of town, put car in Park, started going backwards, stuck in reverse. I checked on CZcams and found you... Used bailing wire to hold in place, called nearest Autozone, got the last one.......No tow truck or shop needed..
Three years later and this video is STILL helping people! I got stuck downtown late at night and a friend drove me home. Walked to O'Reilly's the next morning ($16.41 with tax), took a lyft to my car (GMC Envoy) and got this secured within 15 minutes! Saved me SO MUCH money and time and my husband's feet an hour walk to work. Thank you!

Almost called roadside service but saw your video and was able to connect the linkage so I could drive home. 2003 GMC Envoy 4L, the part you used they don't have anymore. Now it's Dorman #14057 and doesn't have a C Clip but a locking press in fit with the bushings. Going to put it on now. Thank you so much!
My linkage actually broke in neutral so when I Parker the shifter was in the park position but the truck started rolling. So I didn’t know what to even put in to search for but it only took two words “envoy shifter” and the first video that popped up was this. I had the truck moving again in under 2 minutes after watching only half the video. Thank you so much. Thanks to this I knew exactly where to look and what I was looking for.
Thank god this is the first video that pops up when you google the problem. Used a wire tie to hold it together for the trip to autozone and back. One of the easiest repairs I have done on this car. Saved me a lot of money. Thank you sir!

This video saved me tonight! Wife had the envoy out and called me saying it was stuck in reverse and, after shutting the envoy off, it was “dead”. This video was the solution! One thing that wasn’t in the video - the bushing broke when the car was in reverse, So when I went to manually reattach the shifter cable, the “hole” on the end of the cable was not lining up with the “post”. I figured out you can push the post forward which pops the car back into park. Then I could attach the cable, start the car and put it into drive to get the car home!

Thanks for this Dustin, this issue just happened to me about 3 hours ago. I tried to shift into drive but my indicator would not move into drive, stuck in neutral. And I was blocking someone's drive way, I went to CZcams and found your video. I went under the truck and behold the linkage was off popped it back on the my next stop was AutoZone , where they had 1 Dorman #14073 kit left with tax it came out to $16. Two minutes later with a flathead and a pliers it was a done deal.
On a side note please be careful, engage the parking brake when doing this. My truck was on a slight incline in the AutoZone parking lot, the shift mechanism on the transmission housing moves very easy with your bare hands, my truck rolled back on me as I was attempting to position the linkage back in the correct position. The truck started to roll backwards and I barely clicked it back into park. Please use your emergency brake when servicing this part, it can save you from being crushed by your own vehicle

This was EXTREMELY helpful. Had this issue today when I was about to leave work. Was thinking the worst, expensive or tough job in general. Nope seen this video looked under my truck and BAM cable was hanging. 17$ and 5 minutes later I was good to go home. Luckily auto zone was right across the street. Couldn't have been luckier! I got stuck backing out of small parking lot at a jack n the box. This video right here saved my life and a tow trip. I was able to have my wife hold the brake while I reach thru the bottom to shift the car out of reverse and into park. Then start the truck and again reach to shift to drive. Perfect 🥰 Fix I stopped for Chinese and the same symptoms happened no start and/or wonky start try, gages everywhere, wouldn't come out of park. Had to walk about 300 yards to an Advance Auto bought the same part# 14073, stopping at Dollar General for Pliers. Layed down on the hot 🔥 pavement and did just as in your video. Walked back into Chinese restaurant grabbed 😋 my dinner and got home with no problem 😊 Your video and part where a life saver. Thank you 😊 and God Bless you!
Dustin .you have saved my butt ,I already had a crappy morning having to leave early for a funeral and for starters couldn't find my keys going crazy I ran everywhere and looking for the spares on finding the spares I proceeded to leave and found the regular keys under my gloves ,Well I thought ahhhh wonderful .I get into my Envoy ,which in 6 years has been flawless and better than any Honda in our family , I proceed to leave thinking the world is again a beautiful place on turning a curve another car was coming down the alley so I being closest to the main road put my truck into reverse and backed up into the main drag and you can guess the rest I was stuck in a one way street in reverse ,couldn't shut it off for fear of not being able to start it up ended stuck in a hill of ice stuck as reverse has no traction Thank God a neighbor come out with planks of wood and somehow we got it to the curb and then I figured it was safe to shut it off then called a mechanic that i trust and made a appointment to have it towed the following day ,I figured should Check CZcams as I use this for everything from cooking to car repair and lo and behold I found your video ,my friend I ran out and had the car moving in less than 20 seconds popped the cable on and other than getting under the car in 4 inches of slush and water I was so relieved ,I can't thank you enough, my friend you have truly saved my day!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Dustin I was broke down and Chino Arizona at a circle k in their parking lot when this bushing went out a good samaritan help me push it into a parking spot I googled stuck in park and your video came up the most important thing I found in your video was the part number at AutoZone saved a lot of time luckily across the street from the circle k was an AutoZone I went inside played the video part where it had the part number he handed it to me cost was around $17 it was back on the road in less than 15 minutes thanks again

I was stuck in the parking lot if a store for over an hour with my 3 children and my wife after church today. Had a friend come and get my wife and baby girl because it was like 90 degrees. Decided to get on CZcams and your video was the 1st one that came up. Had the trucks e brake in because it would not go into park. Got underneath and manually moved the gear to park. The truck started right up. Went to Auto zone with the exact Same part number and it was in stock. Took me 60 seconds to replace the part on her truck. Absolutely incredible, we had discussed selling it to the junk yard, etc.... I was going to have to miss work because my truck is having a new transmission installed and would be weeks before I get it back. Thank you so very much for the video.

I was stuck at a gas station with my Envoy. Thank God for your video!! I was able to know what the heck was happening and at least assemble the part again to get home safely. Fixing it today!
It cost us a little more but was a perfect great solution. My husband is barrel chested so we had to buy a good jack for him to safely crawl under the Envoy.

How did you know it needed replace ? Later in the day it finally went Into gear,. Could that still be the problem under the hood if later I'm able to get it into gear?

Thanks so much for this video! This just happened to my '06 Envoy. We tried the fuse first, then the override button, which got the shifter out of the locked status, so found this video, went and got the part, jacked up the car and my daughter put the part on and it worked perfectly!

Thanks for the video!, This happened to my GMC Envoy three times already. The first time I freaked out and call the towing service and I took it to a transmission specialist shop (My Rookie mistake) I paid the price, I was charged $250 . The second time I researched it and replaced myself (3 years ago), Now It broke again and I just used the repair kit that cost me about $15. I don't know if there is an entity to report the mechanics/bandits, so they can be brought to jail for stealing.

Thanks man. 04 envoy stuck in the middle of the street trying to do a 3 point. Slid under my car and I’ll be damed if the linkage ain’t there just dangling. So I pushed it into park by hand, linked it back, drove my butt to Autozone.

This happened to me in a Walmart parking lot of all places there just happened to be an AutoZone less than a mile away that I was able to walk to and buy this part and get back on the road in less than 15 minutes. Thank you Dustin!

what a great video. Many videos like this, have guys that talk too much. This video is presented the same way as if the presenter was telling his friend. The information is presented as common conversation, without jargon or extraneous diversions. I believe that almost anyone could do this simple repair, with simple tools and this video. Apparently, I had this problem. A rescue of a family member in the parking lot of "that" store prompted my search. I drove the quarter mile to AutoZone, offered the part number given, and 10 minutes later everyone's driving home. this video is the one you hoped you would find. I can no longer say I have never subscribed to anything on CZcams.

Good fix on a 2002. Only difference was Advance listed the 14057 bushing kit for mine. Went on good. Seems sturdy. Only time will tell. But thanks for the video and info!
