The issue could be a bad wiring harness; your stoned friend there failed to test both solenoid plugs for continuity; or it could be your torque converter; though that would sound a different.

Had the same exact issue replaced the whole transmission with one I had from parts car did the same thing. After I went threw it I found information on all data that said to check your timing chain turned out it jumped a tooth advance so top end it would die on its face. Probably don't have it by this time but hope that helps.

Same thing just happened to my 04 envoy. I noticed about a month or 2 ago that when it shifts gears, it makes a high whining sound before the shift. I ended up changing the filter and fluid but it started doing it again not long after the change. Just the other night when I was driving, it made that whining sound before the shift and just kept doing that. Any acceleration just made the engine rev as if I was in neutral. R D 321 all rev as if in neutral.

Its a very common issue with the 4L60E. The grime gets built up around the check balls in the trans valve train, the get stuck and dont let fluid get to the gears so your clutch packs burn up. Its a $3500 fix if you take it anywhere. I ended up selling my entire Envoy to Vroom for $2500

I have a 2002 and and a 2003 trailblazer and my trailblazer is the same way and I can take my positive terminal off for around 25-30 minutes and put the terminal back on and it will drive and shift perfect til check engine light come back on and it went right back to the way it was so I change the shift selanoids and it runs perfect and strong and I drive it daily but if you try this and your does the same I wouldn't try to take it far because the computer will recognize the same problem in just about 10 seconds or sometimes a lil longer and trailblazers are alot quicker than people think so it will make it threw every gear and its important to test and see because it might have additional problems and like the other guy was saying about the linkage but it's easy to hear it shift or just see if it will role while it's in park and if not try it in neutral and if it rules then. Take the terminal off and give it as much as you can and I'm pretty confident it will move. This is the most common problem of all with these things but the engines are really good with regular maintenance. Mine that I just fixed has 326,000 on it and I can throw rubber down and even shock some vehicles. Hope this helps you and I'm confident it will and they are really cheap and easy to change just not much clearance if you try using the jack that's under the seat. Use a 3 ton and it would be worth the trouble and money to change the filter and put a new seal on it just to cover your ass. Good luck
