2004 GMC envoy stuck in gear easy fix
*please use your parking brake while preforming this repair the vehicle will roll if not used* Customer complained that their 2004 gmc envoy will not come out of gear and is stuck in neutral. The transmission shifter cable brand new is about $150 from most stores. But I found a $20 fix that most people can do at home and save some money. Hope it helps.

What if there too far from eachother to connect
@DreSteele-e1d the gear selector on the transmission is probably in the wrong position compared to the shifter inside the vehicle. Be very carful and have the front and back of a wheel chocked when messing with the gear selector on the transmission it can cause the beehive to come out of gear and roll forward or backwards.
What if there too far from eachother to connect
Thanks for the info
Super helpful!! Fixed my dad’s today in 60 seconds. You’re the man!!!

omg omg thank u so much i did this and it worked.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hello! Thank you for your video! It saved me a huge amount of frustration and was exactly the issue with my mother's 2006 GMC Envoy SLT with the 4.2L I-6. However, the kit that worked for me and recommended by AutoZone is 14057. According to AutoZone, 14073 is not compatible.
Alot of thanks from saudi arabia to you 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Brother ...
You are welcome
Glad I could help brother ☝️
good shit
This saved me from having to call a tow truck and pay someone to fix it! Thank you for posting this
In another city an hour and a half from the house for orientation at a new company I’m starting at, this happened to me and this video helped me out. Thank you
Thank you.
Man this shit just happened to me this video couldn’t be any better and straight to the point 💯👍
Glad I was able to help out.
Sitting at a gas station 60 miles from home. This video just eased all my anxiety. On the way to auto zone to get the part. Bless you. A thousand times, bless you brother.
Dude. I have no words. I was waiting at the gas station where I was stuck in park for a tow truck and thought I'd take a chance on a CZcams fix. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this easy fix to a major problem.
I'm glad I was able to help you out
Today i was in a parking lot on a hot day and parked, and this happened to me. I came across this video, saw what I needed, and right as I was trying to figure out how to get it, my neighbor just happens to show up! He gave me a ride to AutoZone, I got the pieces, and was able to go back and thanks to your video was able to easily fix it. Thanks so much!
This was EXTREMELY helpful. Had this issue today when I was about to leave work. Was thinking the worst, expensive or tough job in general. Nope seen this video looked under my truck and BAM cable was hanging. 17$ and 5 minutes later I was good to go home. Luckily auto zone was right across the street. Couldn't have been luckier! Thank you for this video!
Glad I was able to help you.
5 years later and this video saved my sons truck! A quick trip to auto zone and it’s going again! Thank you!!!
Im glad I was able to help
Appreciate the help! Great video!
Being open-minded makes life easier visual check 😊
Thank you for your video. How am I suppose to k ow if that's what it needs ? Would it be loose ? Please help. It did finally go Into gears , but I'm afraid it will do it again. Any advice? Single Mom trying to educate myself as apposed of possibly getting ripped off. 😁
It would more than likely be popped off, but it could be very loose and barely hanging on.
If you look through the comments there has been multiple people being ripped of by transmission shops and repair shops for such a simple fix. I hope this helps and it fixes your problems.
Im having a very similar issue with my envoy but its not stuck in park. I can shift but its super loose and just flops between gears with no resistance. I checked underneath and the same cable is disconnected. I hope its only the same fix. Just not sure why mines not stuck in park and the shifter lets me disengage it. Ill let you guys know if anything else had to be done.
I'm not 100% sure why it is not stuck in gear but hopefully fixing the cable bushing will take care of the problem for you.
@@dustinrobinson9824 just finished fixing it. Seems to work just fine now. I guess it was just the cable/bushing. That C ring clip had me worried that it wasn't seated right. I couldn't get eyes on the other side to check but all is well so far. Well see if it comes off in the future
You sir got me home at 11pm with no idea how to repair it. Still have to fix it but learned how to shift manually to drive thanks to this video!!!! God bless you sir.
I'm glad the video was able to help you get home safely.
@@dustinrobinson9824 Thanks. I think the chain went, going to have my mech take care of it from here just to get it done right lol. God bless, man.
So before the fix, was the brakes lock too? I have to do this today and I hoping that the brake lock up is not a completely different problem. I know the bushings is gone. Stuck in Reverse, won't start and both gear and brakes locked.
Good job Dustin, Quick and to the point! Thanks brother 👍🏼😎
Another person helped! We got out of work and the gear shift wouldn't budge. Googled for a fix, this was the first thing that came up, and it was exactly what we needed. Thank you!
Thank you soooo much for this video my man almost broke the shifter cause he was so mad. At first we couldn't figure it out but one of us had to be calm and collective so I'm like CZcams 😊 & found your video thanks 🙏🏽
On mine the key is stuck,no shift no start, and the transmission cable is connected?
My linkage actually broke in neutral so when I Parker the shifter was in the park position but the truck started rolling. So I didn’t know what to even put in to search for but it only took two words “envoy shifter” and the first video that popped up was this. I had the truck moving again in under 2 minutes after watching only half the video. Thank you so much. Thanks to this I knew exactly where to look and what I was looking for.
Your video was extremely helpful! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience!!!
Thank you so much,, you helped me
Thanks, it just happened a couple of hours ago. I freaked out, and right away, I went to CZcams and found your video. I was able to put it back, it got me home but I will go to auto zone to get it permanently fixed. Thanks again
Thank you !! This video helped me fix my 2007 rainier. And saved hundreds.!!!
I'll be doing this for about the 6th time now. Smh.
This video is still relevant, I repeat "still relevant". Thank you for this video.
No problem glad I could help
Thanks brother. I was backing into my garage and the snap ring decided to fall off at that moment when my GMC was fully blocking both sides of the street at night. Immediately pulled up a video and yours came up first crawled under the car put the linkage back on got in my garage rode my bike 2 blocks to AutoZone bought the same part same # and had it fixed in 20 min from the time it broke. I like how you get right down to business. There is nothing worse than a long winded CZcamsr who spends 30 minutes explaining a 2 minute job. Good work and thanks
I literally tried this on my gmc envoy xl the linkage won’t clip back on
There should be a small cut for the clip to go on. You might have to use a pair of pliers to get it to clip on
@@dustinrobinson9824 the linkage looks like it’s too long to clip back on but the car is on the ground so it’s kind of hard for me to do it without the car rolling because it’s stuck in neutral
Be sure to set the parking brake
Would you happen to know where the linkage override button is at?
Appreciate the video and the details ✨️ saved a poor man his rent money and his only transportation to work
You are a Godsend! Worked perfect on our 2004 GMC Envoy. Thank you so much Dustin.
I got stuck backing out of small parking lot at a jack n the box. This video right here saved my life and a tow trip. I was able to have my wife hold the brake while I reach thru the bottom to shift the car out of reverse and into park. Then start the truck and again reach to shift to drive. Enough to get me home and get it fixed. Ty for making this video.🙏🙏
Perfect 🥰 Fix I stopped for Chinese and the same symptoms happened no start and/or wonky start try, gages everywhere, wouldn't come out of park. Had to walk about 300 yards to an Advance Auto bought the same part# 14073, stopping at Dollar General for Pliers. Layed down on the hot 🔥 pavement and did just as in your video. Walked back into Chinese restaurant grabbed 😋 my dinner and got home with no problem 😊 Your video and part where a life saver. Thank you 😊 and God Bless you!
Thank you. This happened to my wife’s envoy today. She found your video and it took me five minutes and a $13 part to fix.
What if the lever (linkage” is stuck in reverse and is hanging too low to reattach?
It snaps manually left and right snap it back to park
Thank you for the video!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for this video! This just happened to my '06 Envoy. We tried the fuse first, then the override button, which got the shifter out of the locked status, so found this video, went and got the part, jacked up the car and my daughter put the part on and it worked perfectly!
Worked just like you said. Down to the part number to fix it. Thank you 🙏🏾
