    He went from throwing away two glasses that black men drank out of in the beginning of the movie, to inviting a black man over to his home for Christmas dinner by the end of the movie. Like other commenters stated, that is a great example of character development. Not to mention, he became a lifelong friend to Don Shirley. I love films based on true events, and this is one of the best ones I've seen since Radio.

    Tony's smart man. Bouncing at a big club like that, you probably run into your fair share of wise guys, and maybe have to put hands on them. He's getting in good with his "pal Gio" there so that he's got some juice too if he ever needs someone to vouch for him after roughing up someone who is connected.

      @griffinsalluci3787 Před 2 lety +6

      If he roughed up a made guy being on Gio’s good graces wouldn’t save him. He would be gone. He never made any money for them. (In the movie, real life stories not shown are not included.) So he wouldn’t be of any importance and would be clipped without challenge. To me he seemed like he was trying to join up in the ranks and take care of certain favors for LaScudo.

      @@griffinsalluci3787 Yeah for sure he couldn't knock out a made guy, but then again Tony is smart enough to know not to do that. I more meant "connected" guys. Guys who probably know somebody who is made, but ain't themselves yet. Gio could step in then most likely, if the guy made an issue of it. They used to give us that in acting classes and later when I directed I would make my actors and actresses write everything down about the way their character walked and talked and eats, etc. down to what kind of dog or pet they would have, or what kind of car. Or if they would be the type to have a pet. It’s a good exercise and many many serious actors use that in their craft. I always want to use wigs though. Because I don’t want my long hair cut that’s down to my hips and even longer. Now Wigs look very convincing when they are done right. A good wig master is a great asset too.

    The opening shows that Tony is hired for his muscle and then reveals Tony is more than that. He's smart enough to turn 10 dollars (to hat girl) into 100 (Gio). The opening scene is the message of the movie ... there's more here than meets the eye.

Kim and her then baby Jack would come into the salon. I would always say to her, "I cannot beleive Jenny is here"! (Kim played Jenny on All My Children) Never thoguth of them as Hollywood people- they were always just Joe & Kim.

      True, the "bum's rush" is still active today. I have a boxer friend who works part-time as a bouncer at a popular bar. They still get rowdies on busy weekends, and he initially tries to defuse the situation and calm things down. However, he has had to step up a few times when a drunken customer has gotten overly aggressive and belligerent, and he had to manhandle them right out of the club. They wisely chose not to return.
