Synopsis:
Academy Award® nominee Viggo Mortensen and Academy Award® winner Mahershala Ali star in Green Book, a film inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class, and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line. When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Donald Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African- Americans. Confronted with racism, danger as well as unexpected humanity and humor-they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

I'm just realizing that Tony's unwillingness to act subservient is exactly what made Dr. Shirley choose him.
He needed a tough street smart guy.
Just now? As in you had watched the movie previously and didn't pick up on the idea until viewing this snippet 21 hours ago?
You just now realized that did you? 😊
False! Lip is a trouble neutralizer and was recommended by a lot of people. That’s the reason
@@MohammadAliKhalil Yea, he even said it: "I asked around and your name came up".
Viggo isn’t in enough movies, he is a phenomenal actor
Guys talented speaks many languages
Eastern promises shows how good he is
@@kreegak3802omg great movie. That fight scene 🩸🩸🩸🩸🔥🔥.. he goes back to playing small part in witness w Harrison ford as brother of Alexander Gordunov.. Amish guy who also liked Kelly mcgillis. He was Denzel’s buddy the weapons officer in crimson tide, master chief in gi Jane . Tom stall in history of violence 🔥🔥👍👍plus I was deployed n 2004 i think it was horse race across the desert movie ??.. and a western movie Appaloosa w Ed Harris I think. 👍
Very true. But his is a choice.
wtf this is aragorn?!
24 hotdogs for the tie. 25 to win. 26 to send a message 😂
“Why we bringing broads?” Cracks me up every time 😂
Right, like he wasn't even concerned about the time away from his family.
Dr. Shirley's minute reaction of amusement and disdain is what makes that line so good
Hahahah factsss
Gumars
@@moixmoix4798
YeH he's like dude I'm obviously Gay
Instant must watch. Both actors are mesmerizing in their performances and it’s a wholesome ending.
It took me a while to finally see what others have seen in it. And I couldn’t agree more
Watched it 3 times i just love the acting and tony lips's bs 😅
@@sansrival933he's the bullshit artist after all
Love this movie! definitely 10/10👍🏾
One of the themes of this movie is "dignity." I think Dr. Shirley was impressed with Tony's aversion to shinning shoes, for anyone.
Dr. Shirley knew that if a white man was shining shoes of a black man in the deep south they would lynch him. He was testing him to see his reaction make sure he had personal rules of conduct and the willingness to act on them. Such as protecting Dr. Shirley and his crew if there is a problem. Ie it wasn't just a pay check.
yea he mirrored his own sense of pride and disdain at suffering indignities that he inevitably had as a black man during the time. someone who can say no is someone you want to deal with. someone who cant is a slave and of no use to anyone.
@@titolovely8237 Its not like its some form of "indignity". If the man needs to have shiny shoes for a concert, he needs his shoes shined. Ofc I would argue that you then employ different people for different tasks, but its not demeaning to ask someone to polish your shoes. Much less if you pay them for it.
@@cruusha9866 yea the act itself wouldn’t be but look at the dynamic in which he was saying to shine his shoes. He was sitting on a literal throne and talking down to him in a dismissive and demeaning manner. He definitely meant it as a demeaning test to see if Vigo would take the bait
@@titolovely8237 Yeah, true, it could've been for that purpose.
Mahershala does an amazing job here, the air of dignity and elegance he carries with ease is amazing. You can tell he has a lot of respect for himself, but isn't arrogant, he understands he's dealing with a man who while not as educated, has just as much respect for himself. The way he moves is very deliberate, reminds me of his role in Moonlight, his demeanor just completely embodies the character. Viggo is obviously amazing as usual too.
it definitely comes across as arrogance, even the way he has the chairs setup, with him being on a raised throne, looking down on the people he is talking to.
His role as Remy Danton in House of Cards is similar. I don't what his background is, but he strikes me as a super educated person
This really is an exceptional film with great performances from Viggo and Mahershala!
The Dr just casually sitting on his throne 😂 always gets me
And years later, Tony went on to play Carmine Lupertazzi in the Sopranos! Epic life story
wow i had no idea he played carmine. holy shit
A Don doesn’t wear shorts…
@@TheBLT883 Yeah, Aragorn played Carmine right after he broke his toe on the way to get his shine box
@@srjhr No, not Aragorn--Frank Vallelonga, aka Tony Lip. The actual person being portrayed by Viggo went on to become an actor, eventually playing the role of Carmine Lupertazzi in the Sopranos.
@@Johnny-rj9on That's a cool little factoid. Thank you
“Public relations” cracks me up
The Academy nailed this amazing classic while awarding Green Book with best picture in 2019 🎬🏆
I’m just glad Black Panther didn’t win.
But they missed by snubbing Viggo.
one of the worst best picture winners of all time
I wanted Black Panther to win. But looking back, I’m a graceful loser now
Bullshit, Oscar bait
The baby elephant just hit 19 - you're embarrassing! 🤣🤣🤣 had me rolling
I knew he said that 😂😂😂
I’m pretty sure $50 at that time. Was like $500. Which is why she was so worried.
I love how Tony demands more money after finding out he was highly recommended. He was totally fine with the original offer before realizing that Shirley wanted to hire him specifically.
the transaction between "Thanks for stopping by" and that sudden shaking video and bombastic music
“Sanitation” - Heard that one before. 😂😂
"Waste Management Consultant"
That's a stereotype, and it's offensive!
"Environmental cleanup"
It reminds me of Mr. Ryuichi Sakamoto, a famous Japanese musician nicknamed "Professor."
He gained worldwide recognition with the music of the Yellow Magic Orchestra.
And now only Hosono-san remains. Truly heartbreaking but YMO is a favourite band of mine. Rydeen is perpetually on loop :).
Green book has become one of my favorite movies, I’ve must’ve watched it like 4 times already
That movie just flowed so well
❤In an era where movies are about mostly comic superheroes and +200 million dollar budgets. It's WELCOME to see a movie about two ORDINARY human beings and their EXTRAORDINARY journey. I enjoyed it very much.
I just love the look she gives him 🤣🤣🤣
VIGGO, YEAR FOR YEAR, my Godness, incredible performance. ❤❤❤❤❤
Highly recommend, must be one of my top 10 heart warming films I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I am a very critic person towards movies and dont finish a lot of em, but Ive watched this movie 5 times since it came out, and it makes me laugh so much. Tony is amazing, but off course the bond they create is very special too .Some movies have that X factor and for me this is one of those movies.
"Hmmmm. so youre married. Im not sure this job is suitable for a married man"
"What, are we bringing broads?"
LOL, so cute! I LOVED Viggo's character and thought process. So basic, but so to the point. Made sense.
Mahershala Ali is the perfect actor who can play BLADE sequel
I remember the appointment guy as Kidney Stone Doctor in Friends
*Kidneeyyy Stones* 🤣🤣
Lol yea

Great spot!
Yup
That has to be the most badass officer anywhere. That looks like the type of office King George had. Of course I have no idea what king George office looked like but I bet it was something like that.
What a damn good movie.
I was quite surprised myself when I rented it. Tough to find anything like this in these Post Pandemic times
Great movie for anyone who hasn't seen it already
"May my mother in law drop dead if I'm lying" that one got me, ngl
A wonderful movie!
Viggo you a great actor, you deserve an OSCAR
What a cracking movie ended up watching by accident because Aragon was in it lol what an awesome film really enjoyed it both cracking actors and a great story
I always loved Dr Shirley's album the one around the orphans
Love this movie
Very underrated movie. Loved it
I have just watched the Green Book. I am impressed 🤔
That's a good woman right there..
Great movie and defintly worth a watch!
Good movie!
Man, $50 in 1962 is huge
$100 a week to drive a black man through 60s Deep South and he bet 50 on eating hot dogs 🤣
Life was so much better back then
Amazing movie
Great movie
As much as I was rooting for Black Panther to win Best Picture in 2019, I can’t believe it took me so long to see what others saw in Green Book. And this is a beautiful piece of art! Something post pandemic Hollywood is somewhat lacking in. I enjoy cinema like this that has resonance and has something human to say. I’m not all into big budget spectacle alone!
beautiful movies very nice vibes and a nice ending
I freaking love this movie!!!!!
This movie is amazing
Easily became one of my favourite top ten movies ever after watching this.
this is one great movie
What a great movie
Great movie.
EPIC movie
top Amazing
Linda Cardellini was perfect here as Tony’s wife
As a Marvel super fan I can’t believe Laura Barton and Aaron Davis are in the same movie!
No...she's perfect period lol
He was perfect for the role
Someone please recommend more movies like this. I especially like the environment or the whole vibe of this movie and the Irishman
How about The Upside with Kevin Hart & Bryan Cranston or Just Mercy with Jamie Foxx Michael B Jordan and Brie Larson
@@manuelorozco7760maybe watch the original movie the upside was made after which is a French movie the intouchables it’s way better
Not a lord of the rings fan but I forgot he was in those. I’m thinking of movies w/ him as the main star in leading roles. Great actor. We don’t see him in Hollywood red carpet or anything but 👍👍👍
He goes back at least to 1985 in witness movie as the brother of Alexander Gordunov.. he was big blonde guy competing w Harrison ford for Kelly mcgillis. He played guys brother. Small role. He was in the buggy when Harrison ford fought the guys who were messing w other guy n it made the crooked cops locate him. 👍👍the road in 2009.. he was dad w the son in post apocalyptic world ??
A great movie ❤❤❤👍
Damn. My old time favorite movie.
4th and insanely early 😊
Love this film ❤
39,000!!! See how stupid you are?
Took me way too long to realize that was Bob Pinciotti from That 70s Show
This movie is up there with the best, in my opinion.
It's a Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption level of quality, in my humble movie addicted opinion.
never seen this before but I know what im watching tonight
İzləmək keyifli idi
Do you realize that $50 in 1960 is like $500. He just won like half a thousand basically in a hotdog eating contest
Imagine the irony now in 2024 500$ is like 50
50$ in im guessing the late 1950s to mybe 1960 is about 500$ today or mybe 550$ tops
575
@@TopGunner4411 I was fairly close
So true. This movie was set in 1962 👍
@@MatthewKearney69 So 50$ in 1962 would be 575$ in 2024 OK👍
@@chrisruth7057 so true. Hard to realize how inflation n all that works. $50 bought more in ‘62 then now. It’s $510.62 now.. wow. 😂👍👍
Damn Viggo!
This is one of my favorite drama films ever!! The performances were fantastic, the writing was spot on, and it was filmed perfectly.
I get why fans were not thrilled when Green Book won Best Picture at the Oscars, especially with some of its inaccuracies, but it was still worthy in my opinion.
I knew this movie was going to win best picture.
You're telling me this is the same guy that became the one true king of Gondor? Viggo Mortensen is the type of actor that just melts into his roles. Can't believe the guy hasn't won an Oscar yet.
Not only that, but Tony Lip, the guy whom he's playing, ended up becoming an actor himself and played Carmine Lupertazzi on The Sopranos.
"Why doesnt anyone take me seriously?"
Says the american wearing a dashiki, sitting on a throne in his living room.
Sitting on an elevated throne designed to show superiority over the seated guest
Quite a conversation...excellent!
I have yet to see Viggo Mortenson play a similar character twice, in fact I think he has used a different accent in every movie that I have seen him in.

Can’t believe that’s Aragorn
Linda cardellini....omg
The Real Tony went on to act in the Sopranos as big Carmine
Tony valalalala 😂😂😂
LOL. Eddies are all over the place! LMAO!
2:06 Thats BOB GODDAMN PINCIOTTI!
Doc wanted a tough guy. He got that and more.
Dónde puedo ver esta película?
8:09 is what I said at my last interview
I got the job
If I go for a job interview and the guy is sitting on a motherfucking throne, I ain't even gonna wait to hear an offer. I'm walking out of there !
whoa... i barely recognized the king damn..
should have got Paulie to do it, atleast then they could have stolen alot of mowers
Will there be Bad guys 2 ? I liked the it animations and it's been 2 years 😕
Does Doc Shirley live on top of a theater? Or is that just his study?
she is so beautiful.......im sry if thats...superficial
Aragorn had some strange habits after lotr
I cooka da pizza
Aragorn really let himself go after becoming King.
$50 in the 50’s would be $649.00 today and rent was due Monday. I can see why the wife was worried.
That uh moluh ?!
Sebastian can play an Italian
Is he sitting on a throne !!????
Yeah and he sits there alone 😢
Is North Carolina considered the deep south? I'm a native of NC, and I would 100% say it's a southern state. However, I never considered it as part of the deep south. Google seems split on the idea. Some articles conclude that NC is in the deep south, while others dont.
Pretty sure the "deep" part has nothing to do with location. I think its more about back in the day when slavery and segregation was still around, the "deep south" were all the states that heavily enforced it.
