I've worked the Sunday lunch crowd. It's brutal! Have them push four tables together, wait on twenty five people, all the kids ate free, extra toast, more coffee, refill this, reheat that, this isn't good enough, etc., etc.,
Then they tip a SINGLE DOLLAR! There was NOTHING wrong with ANYONE'S order! And they tipped a lousy dollar!
And this was in a state that paid servers $02.12 dollars per hour because you are supposed to make the rest up IN TIPS!!!
This was thirty years ago, but it still ticks me off.

Church crowd also… we must travel in packs of 12-20 because we didn’t “fellowship enough” at the church so we plan to do that after at a restaurant where it’s super loud and busy and expensive. We don’t listen, we don’t acknowledge and we don’t have any grace for the person who is serving us (a “ large party” ) where you take up more of the server’s time for everything refills, condiments, to go boxes and especially the separate checks. We aren’t pleased with where we sat we wanted the patio, we need extra everything and use none of it and will leave you a “ tip card” praising the Lord and asking if you know Jesus? Every server has a story about you and it’s 90% not favorable.

Like not tithing, but they've got a 50,000$ bass boat. Or the deacon trying to get down your wife's pants after firing the preacher for adultery. God bless their little souls. Serving and managing in restaurants was what I did for many years. I worked countless Sunday brunches and I approve this message. My favorite excuse for them not to tip more than 10% of the bill was “servers don’t deserve more than I give the Lord”. Servers only make 2.13 an hour where I live, so by not tipping you would be costing someone time and hard work and no appreciation. It really shows how good you are, not your server, by not tipping. I worked at a beautiful restaurant, that had a back room option that served smaller portions, appetizers and drinks, during the week. It sat on the water and it was very popular. On Sundays, we did "Brunch" and it was buffet style, yet people could request small extra things. We worked out backsides off to serve those people, kept the areas clean, the food was always hot and delicious and we did it with smiles. The worst group I ever had? 24 Church going folks, who decided last minute to come to brunch. We have a sign that CLEARLY states if you are not seated by 11:45, we will not refresh the buffet. Yes, we have refreshed the buffet at 11:44, no problem. We have to transition from Buffet, starting at noon, to Sunday lunch and dinner at 1:00. It was very quick turnaround, to include removing all the buffet tables and items, setting up chair and tables, cleaning and reset. It was 11:48 and we had hung the buffet closed sign out front (People know to just ask if they still want to sit but no refresh of the food) and on the podium and these people were losing their cool with our hostess and then our manager. I cannot tell you the number of times we have discounted brunch or given away free food at the end, because the owners were really good people. There was enough food on the line for them but they wanted FRESH. My manager refused and do you now these people were cursing her up and down, the wrote a letter to the newspaper (Angry Karen style- 1990's) and the leader of the group came back on Monday and started getting into everyone there. My manager told them not to ever come back and have a nice day.

    THANK YOU!
    Little story:
When I was in college (back in the early 1990’s) I worked at a bagel bakery/sandwich shop. On Sundays, the line to order lunch would go out the door and wrap around on the sidewalk.
We all worked as efficiently as humanly possible to get the orders done.
One Sunday I lost my sh** with all of the complaining and people being rude in line, and telling us to hurry up, and, and, and.
So, I yelled over the crowd and said, “Hey!😃 If you came here from church today, raise your hand😃”
Most of the people there raised their hands.
Then I said, “Ok! Wonderful!😃 Now, keep your hands up if your minister, preacher, pastor, or priest said at the end of service today, ‘Now go out and show God’s love to all you meet by being pushy, impatient, and berating the people trying to do things for you😃‘“
    Hands went down.
I then said, “We are all doing our very best to serve you. We thank you for your patience.”
Of course, as it was a Sunday, the owner was there as well. I was fairly certain I would be fired, but I just got a “talking to.” And was told that if I ever pulled something like that again that I would, indeed, be fired.
I was a camp counselor, which is why I felt comfortable talking to a large group of people like that.

Amen, amen, amen! My grandfather was a minister and I was raised going to church every Sunday. We referred to people who behave this way as “Pew Potatoes” because they clearly were not listening during the service. You don’t go to church every Sunday so that you can be UnChristian the rest of the week. I worked at a church in a large city and one Sunday a woman approached me during the service and asked me to make a homeless man move/leave because he smelled. I just looked at her and said, “Do you see where you are??” . Clueless!

45 years ago I attended a Baptist church and really enjoyed the pastor's sermons. One Sunday at the end of his sermon he said: " I'm going to give you today. But net week I want you to prepare a meal on Saturday for you to eat after church on Sunday instead of racing the Methodists down to the Western Sizzlin after church. Everytime you go out to eat or to shop after church you are causing somebody that could have been in church to have to work". Well, the Deacons got busy and fired him that week and shortly, he was replaced with another pastor. The church members never missed a Sunday of racing the Methodists to the Western Sizzlin.

I used to wait tables on Sundays occasionally if they needed it, but I was shocked how mean those people were! I think it's like people have been holding in the whole time then let loose on the nearest stranger.
Anyways, people always say don't judge, but they lack the context of the rest of the passage. So yeah, confronting professing Christians about being nasty to people is a really great thing. And maybe they don't actually believe and the need to hear the simple Gospel message of God's goodness, our wicked state that makes us guilty before God, and God Loving us and sending us a Savior (his son Jesus) to pay for our entire punishment and making us righteous if we believe in the work Jesus did by dying on the cross, being buried and raised from the grave on the third day. God is so good!

We prepare ourselves to be treated lower than dirt, personally attacked, humiliated, worked like a dog, then robbed of your pay, and left those fucking pamphlets, and the absolute sickest part, is when you can see they enjoy it. You are personally turning people away from God and if you can even behave like that Christ ain't in you.

This is so sad that this is happening. Thank you for sharing this for those that may be unaware but hopefully, willing to do better. Even if I receive poor service, I always tip at least 20% because I realize that the server may be new, running behind, or been dealing with some jerks or just having an off day. Waiting tables and working in a restaurant is typically tough. I feel it should be illegal for servers not to make a base of minimum wage but yes, TIP your servers, they deserve it and depend on it.

      @jacqueslefave4296 Před 3 dny +1

You can actually do that. The Pastor typically takes Monday off, and Tuesday is generally preparing for the midweek Wednesday service. Thursday is ideal. As the rude Sunday patrons what church they're from, look up their church website, and find out who it is. Prepare for the meeting by audio recording them on your cellphone (check your state laws on this first), and try to bring another waitress/busboy as a witness if you can. If it's a megachurch and the pastor is hard to book an appointment with, ask to speak with an assistant/associate pastor. Sunday sermons are generally posted on the church's website on or shortly afterwards, you can check the next few following Sundays to see if he addresses the issue. If not, go back. The pastor's wife also has his ear, and many of them worked as waitresses while in Bible College, and is personally aware of the problem.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Christians aren't even Christian enough for Christian situations. Our Sunday school session ended and a few of us stayed in the classroom to pray for a couple going through a very difficult time. We have about 20 minutes between one class ending and the second class beginning. During our prayer, an older woman walks in, stands by the door with her arms folded and starts tapping her toe. A couple other people follow her in. We had only been praying for a couple minutes and were in the process of wrapping up, since we are polite ( and because she was there, it easily could have lasted another couple minutes) and before we are done, she blurts out "OH FINALLY, THEY'RE FINISHING!" in the most condescending, berating tone I have heard in a long while. The entitlement of that woman and her classmates was ludacris. Not all church-goers are Christians, no matter how long they have been attending, or even if they have been baptized. Church attendance or baptism don't save you, only a change in your heart toward Christ, accepting He died for your sins to be forgiven, and subsequently, your actions also change, including understanding of our call to treat others with love, dignity, and respect. And only Christ knows the true state of your heart and relationship with Him.

Anyone who works with the public knows how rough it is dealing with the public. When my husband and I go to restaurants we AVOID the church crowd times because it's just too busy. But when we so go to a restaurant, we are patient and kind. There are times when we prophesy to the server or give words of knowledge as Holy Spirit leads and we make SURE we tip very well. Sometimes I leave a note of encouragement. I am extremely upset about the condition of the Church and even sometimes extremely annoyed. This horrible behavior have to stop. 😡

I do IT in the restaurant industry, and the stories I hear about the Sunday church crowd being the worst are embarrassing at best. It is people like this who do the most damage to Christianity and push people away from the Gospel. Why would they think it is acceptable to treat a human being, who is there to serve you just as Christ called you to serve, like they are less than human? The hypocrisy is stunning, and Satan is laughing with every incident like this. I completely understand why many are driven away from church and Christianity when this is the example they see on a regular basis. These people probably treat their pets better than they treat other humans outside those church doors, and that is unbelievably sad.

My friends tease me that someone has to deliberately go out of their way to be offensive for me to take offense. If there is a correction that needs to be made, I try to do it calmly, and in the moment. If anything, I've learned over the years that if I approach the service staff in a calm and kindly manner, they are generally prompt and eager to solve whatever problem I'm addressing. Even if it's just pointing out that the new barista mixed my smoothie in a container that had been used for peanut butter previously. They were already to make me a new one and I just stated that it had happened, and could be an issue for someone with an allergy.
