All those problems can be fixed easily
      1) dont buy games workshop for paints and brushes, there are way higher quality brushes n paints from other companies.
      2) adjust your working position (this is for the shaky hands. I have them too). Just sit right in a comfortable place, while painting try to rest your elbows in the table and get or make a painting handle so you can focus on ergonomics

@@yesicollectwarhammerfiguri9473 What you should do about hand shake actually depends on where the shake is occurring. Elbows on table works great if the shake is coming from your upper arms, (i.e.- it's more a problem of stabilization than a true tremor) but if someone's still having trouble, the shake/tremor is probably happening in the forearm/hand itself. If that's the case, I'd recommend that they instead try sitting in a reclined position and painting close, with the forearms resting/stabilized by one's chest, a la Black Magic Crafts here on CZcams.
Also, in the latter case, if it's real bad, maybe mention it to your doctor the next time you're in for a regular check up. There could be undiagnosed neurological issues going on, and your GP will be able to judge whether it's worth seeing a specialist about it.

Some tips from someone who has been in the hobby for a while.
    1) Write down your process. Like, which paints are for what, if you mixed them with anything, etc. It will help when you want to add more later on.
    2) When it comes to some models, think about sub-assembly. It makes painting certain parts a little easier. Just put some poster tac/blu tack on the connectors to get a good spot to glue when you are ready.
    3) Army Painter makes some of my favourite brushes.
    4) I try to avoid Citadel paints. I find them too expensive for what you get, and you just end up thinning them anyway. Plus! Some of their paints are pretty shit (Looking at you any of their whites....) HOWEVER! They really hit the mark when it comes to washes. Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, and Reikland Flesh are amazing.
    5) For white: I recommend P3 Menoth White. A really nice white if you need to paint it. Look into P3 for some of your paints. They have very similar colours, and are really nice.
    6) Look on Amazon, you can find empty dropper bottles that you can use to dilute, and store your favourite paint. If you don't have a stock of Airbrush ready paints, I strongly suggest putting in the time to do this. It is a bit time consuming, but you will save time in the long run. All you have to do is mix the paint you like, with airbrush thinner, pour it into the dropper bottle, add an agitator (small nuts or ball bearings work good) and shake when needed. That way you have a supply of airbrush ready paints at your disposal.
    7) Unless you have a stencil, don't try the Harlequin diamond pattern. It is super time consuming, and ridiculously difficult. Amazing if you can pull it off, but it is hair pulling madness. If you DO have a stencil, care to share where you got it?
That's all for the totally unsolicited advise.
    Good luck!

I recently started up this new hobby by purchasing a start collecting box from my local hobby shop. If anyone is remotely interested in Warhammer 40K for the lore, building, painting, or actual strategy game, I would completely recommend it. I did not know I would enjoy it as much as I am and I have already finished a whole Necron army and am moving on to a Space Marine detachment. The hobby itself is expensive, but it takes time and patience to finish building, priming and painting. As a person who has played video games all my life including many years of competitive ones such as League of Legends, CS GO, Rainbow 6 and more, I found that Warhammer 40K a game set in a world where war and terror is the main plot, the hobby itself is quite relaxing and healthy for your brain. I struggle with anxiety due to my job as a software developer and computer science student in university but, little did I know that taking 20-30 min a day to build a model or finish one part of a models paint job would help me so much with my personal issues. It has opened a new creative world for me to delve into without feeling the stress of losing virtual points in a video game, or dropping a tier in league of legends due to a loss streak. If anyone has questions on the hobby feel free to reply to this thread, I would love to encourage anyone to get into it. Thanks for putting out these videos Magikarp, I love that the game is getting more attention.

    I’ve learned, I hate them lol 😂
So now my new necron army is coming in the mail tomorrow and I’m getting started on them!
Here’s a helpful guide I’ve learned for glow effects. Whatever you want to glow, use grey and white as the base colors and then go over them in whatever color you want to glow. Then, add the same color but dry brush in a circular motion to add a ring glow effect. Finally edge highlight or add back white + whatever color you’re highlighting and bam. Glowing eyes, orbs, guns, vents, organs, you name it!
Mainly going for a terminator look so here is my step by step process.
1). Base the minis first. Going for an asphalt/ruined city vibe (opening of T1)
2). Base in black and then dry brush with a makeup brush leadbelcher starting at the head and working my down to give authentic shadows to the body.
3). Go over in nuln oil and add in Balthazar gold in edge highlights to give a rust effect
4). Use my glowing method on the guns and eyes
    5). ???
    6). World domination

One really easy painting tip that a lot of people don't recognize, hit the more recessed areas of the model first. You can overflow a bit on those areas and be sloppy, and then when you go to do the areas that are more prominent and raised up next to it, you basically just need to not push your brush down to much vertically, and it won't hit the recessed areas. Doing this will get you pretty clean edges when you're changing colors.

I had a VERY similar idea for my nids. I used a teal for the carapace, a white for the bone, and a purple for the flesh. I ended up scrapping the design for something a bit more universal because it bothered me to high heaven when I was playing with a snowy army on a desert or a cityscape. Also doesnt help that I am the only person in my group with a snow gaming mat. Not saying you should change. Just wanted to give my experience with the scheme and army :p

Thing to remember about forge world is that the kits they produce are for veteran hobbyists, they're high maintenance but it's the sort of stuff most experienced hobbyists are used to from other brands and model kits. FW resin is actually pretty good, but all resin kits can tend to be hit or miss. Also the synthetic vs natural brush debate has been going on for ages, but typically I think you'll find for the most part your brushes getting destroyed isn't because they're cheap synthetics, it's because you're not taking good care of them, even if you think you are. Doing a lot of stuff like stippling or drybrushing will kill a brush no matter how expensive it is or even if you use brush soap or conditioner. Personally I've been going on fine with a wargamer: regiment and a wargamer: character brush from the army painter, along with some davinci brush soap. It's easy to fall down the hobby hole of thinking that the best stuff is always what's the most expensive, but for the most part it's not always the case. Midwinter minis put out a good video today on how you can restore synthetic brushes really easily, or modify them to use as something else if they're too far gone.

Hey man, love your addiction to 40k!
Just wanted to say, don't eirry too mich about brushes, I paint thousands of points a year, and I exclusively use cheap synthetic brushes except for eye dots and very fine details. Buy them in bulk and find other uses for them once they are roughed up.
If you need a long-lasting podcast for those painting sessions and are interested in learning something along the way, give the history of rome a try, I enjoyed it very much :)

So i've been painting D&D miniature for roughly 3 years now, mostly self taught. By now, i am an okay painter. What i enjoy is the tranquility of the project. Depending on the model, i take 1-3 hours to paint them to my best ability. I have an okay set of brushes and paints, but not even close to complete. More expensive stuff like airbrushes are still out of reach though.

I committed to a challenge to build and paint 100 figures by the of the year, from 1 Know No Fear boxes, 2 Dark Imperium boxes, Primaris Vanguard box, 10 incursers, and figures from a land speeder storm, and about 12 SM characters, lord Feltihus and the tainted cohort. I don’t feel overwhelmed, staying organized and focused are my challenges. Having limited time per week is my biggest challenge if I’m lucky I can maybe squeeze 12-15hrs a week. So I can understand what you went through in a week. To date 45 are built and primed, I’m saving the characters for last. Didn’t know about rinsing finecast resin models, thanks for that. I’ve only been building 40k since January after a long layoff from building models. Keep up the good work.

Ok first, i have half my main army (Dark Angels Primaris)mostly just basecoated at the moment, my secondary army (Death Guard) is still waiting for their primer coat and i already ordered the indomitus box and the command starter edition (so more Dark Angels and army No.3 (Necrons) incoming) so yeah... seeing someone to do a "paint your entire army in a week" is kinda the stuff i need right now... MOTIVATE ME!
Second: No matter how good/bad you think you paint, a painted army looks way better than gray/grey unpainted soliders (if your paintscheme is gray/grey, at least put some highlights/color/metallic or sth, don't leave them gray/grey)
Third: Army Painter Colors are also a nice alternative to Vallejo^^

    Quick tips for better painting:
Lighting. Get yourself some hella lights or paint outside in the sun or next to a window. Natural lighting gives you a good idea of how it'll look on the table
Wash your stuff. Mould release is on things and ya should wash them before even priming. Sometimes even on the plastic models..
Thin coats. Take your time and don't slop paint on, this obscures detail if you just lay down the paint out of the tub for the most part. Naturally thinning paint (Water usually works fine. Don't need expensive thinners)
Washes are liquid skill. They're great and you should get at least two, a black and a brown.
When sealing, you can use gloss clearcoat for strength, then a matte to back off the gloss so you have the strength of the gloss clearcoat (Since it tends to be stronger), but none of the gloss.

Tip: never use a pure white, use an off white (just looks better). use a bluish of white for cold tones and a yellowish white for warm tones. If you spray pure white, use very diluted nuln oil (or white contrast paint) to wash it to make it grayish.
leaving pure white on a model just looks weird... great video.
