      I don't think the point of the scene is supposed to be taken as a technical legal indictment.
      The point is that we are supposed to hear in his voice that he is being brutally honest In admitting what he did because he cares more about saving this kid's life then he does protecting his own ass.
      In that moment if you're on the phone you're not going to be thinking about the legal technicalities of what happens if you lie lol

    tbf, Japanese trains are next level - their rail network is the benchmark of the world. Getting paid an extra 35k for recommending the choosing of the better train is just a coincidence

      On the flip side, globalization has brought tremendous unprecedented economic prosperity to these other countries and our local citizens. So I don’t see the problem.

      America absolutely could have superior infrastructure, but our government is always busy arguing over which bathrooms gay people use or whatever, and paying all the taxpayer money out to the families of black people who are justifiably killed by the police. Japan doesn’t have these sorts of problems.

    You know, this scene is actually genius because he got this guy to confess to a crime under duress, so it can potentially be dropped. So even though this is a real confession based on the circumstance, this makes the outbursts inadmissible.

      I think it’s more that they all knew he did it, but they felt sorry he had to admit to this under these circumstances, it’s not really fair. This kids life on the line and he was forced to admit it

    It’s funny because I was watching a sit down with the cast of pulp fiction and John said. That movie changed his acting options, he went from the hero protagonist to more edges, complex characters like this one

    Judge: oh well this was clearly given under duress, so we must strike this from the record

    I've always thought this movie would have been better if Washington and Travolta switched roles. It's not that they both didn't do fantastic in the roles they played, but I just feel like they're more suited to play the other character.

    fantastic acting by all but the teen, that teen really had a "is it over now" energy that did NOT sell the fear or trauma of the moment and as soon as the gun was down he just sounded bored

    How could he take a bribe by just recommending one train over another? All the Japanese corporation did was give him more money for recommending their train. Doesn’t really make much sense, which even if it did, Ryder had Garber’s back to the wall so Garber can’t be blamed for that, lol. Powerful scene and movie though. I saw this saw this in theaters with my dad.
