  • Title: Finestkind (2023)
Plot: Finestkind tells the story of two half-brothers (Ben Foster and Toby Wallace), raised in different worlds, who are reunited as adults over a fateful summer. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. Along the way a young woman (Jenna Ortega) finds herself caught perilously in the middle. Sacrifices must be made and bonds between brothers, friends, lovers, and a father (Tommy Lee Jones) and his son are put to the ultimate test.

My dad was terminally ill at 85. He was telling me for the first time, and he started crying because he said he couldn't protect mom and me now. That was the first time I really felt what it was like to be grown up. I just hugged him and told him I would protect him and mom now. The man would have killed and/or died for my mom, my two brothers and myself. I miss him.

I saw this movie while i was in drug treatment a few months ago. It was a great movie. It made me think about how my son is the most important thing in my life and how I should never choose drugs over my son. Im now 6 months clean, and my son has a good father again after 5 years of being massively addicted to drugs after being injured in the Army. 5 years were wasted, but I have the rest of my life to do better and be better. If anyone is struggling with addiction, just know you can do it. A clean and sober life is better than one where you are chasing a high for temporary relief. If anyone needs help... reply to this comment.

She started infertility treatment but it was taking too much of a toll on her mentally because it wasn't working. I remember praying before her last procedure. I didn't pray that she would get pregnant. I prayed for God to bless us with a child. I think I prayed harder than I did before my dad died. Once again, the procedure didn't take. About two months later we met our son. He was three weeks old when we brought him home. I knew the second my wife held him. His adoption was finalized a week before Christmas. Edit: Some of you people have the iq of a potato, so let me clarify for you slow ones in the back. Movies tend to push messages and lessons within them. They don't have to be based in real life, nor do they have to be correct in their story. The message being shared in this scene, is very correct, and very obvious to see(see original comment). A nice guy named introduced himself as Tom Jones, said he bought some property nearby and wanted to meet the neighbors and take them to lunch. My grandpa was a physician and I don't think they even had a television in the house. If he told them his occupation, they couldn't recall, but they saw him on a poster years later and told the story. A polite and well spoken young man from their recollection.

I had two sons, both were still born. Then I had a daughter but she died when she was only a few minutes old. I couldn’t take it anymore and wanted an end, 3 times I tried to take my own life, I was tired and wanted a way out. But then in 2016 I had a son, he’s 7 years old now and no matter how bad things get, no matter how much depression beats me down, I keep going for him, I live for him. He saved my life but he’ll never know that. He’s the reason I carry on every single day. This scene hits hard because there’s nothing I won’t do to give my son the best life I can. Now I’m all about positivity and moving forwards! ❤

I am sorry to hear that man, I wish we’d all get to have good fathers. Mine was a complicated man to say the least. I spent most of my life resenting him for his failure to be there for me in the ways I wanted and needed, I could not have felt any other way. He loved us kids but his parents messed him up pretty good so despite his best efforts, he could never be fully free of that trauma and couldn’t help but pass some of it on to us. I often felt I was an inconvenience to him. In recent years though he changed somehow, surprising all of us. He became kinder, calmer, more loving and present. This went on long enough to know it was genuine, then he died suddenly and without warning right when things were getting good. It has made me ponder the nature of life, family, karma, fate and so many things I never considered about him, but above all, I am left with what was good, true and beautiful. All the resentment washed away the minute I found him, dead. We never really know what we have until it’s gone, sometimes that revelation will knock you on your ass with its clarity. If you have children, for the love of God, work as hard as you can on correcting your flaws and just do your best with them. We must do better than our fathers. Forgive me for dumping this story that may be scattered, I am still in the grief as of writing. Whoever you are, I feel you and I love you. This life thing is fucking crazy and painful but love shines through all. That’s what we remember best.

Big respect to you, my father was a Kurdish guerilla, he fought against Iran, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and been living in the mountains with only purpose of killing and sabotaging. He met my mother in a political camp and they decided to get married. When he was drunk one day, he told me that the only reason he didn't die in those mountains is because I was born and he had a bigger call in life than freedom. He took us to Europe for our future, left the PKK behind, he was called a traitor by some, our family elders disowned him and he had no support from Kurds in Europe since he was considered a "deserter." That did not stop him, he started over in Europe and raised us to be better. Now I got myself a solid career, a beautiful wife and we have a baby on the way. Sadly my father passed away in 2017, he went back to Syria when ISIS emerged to fight once more, as local population needed experienced guerillas to teach and mobilize the civilians against ISIS & Turkey. We told him not to, well I guess once a soldier always a soldier, that's what he wanted and I am sure he died without doubts or any regret. I just realized that my father was born to fight in those mountains, that's what he wanted to do and that's what he was born for, but once I born, his priorities suddenly changed, he became an outcast among Kurds and was pushed away by everyone in his life just so he can raise me. RIP Father, I love you to death, till we meet again.

It's silly, but despite not being a father. I know the feeling he describes because I felt it once in a dream. In the dream I was at a hospital and I'm handed a newborn boy, my son. And something clicked. I knew I'd do anything for that boy. I'm not married irl or anything, so it really came out of left field. That being said, I'm sure you'll feel the same if you have a child.

I hope you do. I did. I grew up without a father (mine was a drug-addicted, alchoholic who tried to kill me), and my mother was/is abusive to this day. I have two sons, and though I can't raise them like I was raised (because that would be very wrong), what I do is remember what I didn't like, what hurt me, and I don't do those things. Give your children what you didn't get - a good, loving home, and be the father that you wanted to have. This will mean making sacrifices, and some will be brutally difficult. I work 80+ hours a week to afford a nice, stable home, and spend what time I have with my boys and my wife. I go willingly into the grindstone for them, day, after day, week for week, month for month, year for year, because that's what it takes. Many talk about love, about what they would do. Be what you say. When teachers say things about your child, take time off and go sit in class, for as long as you need to see if they are telling the truth. Know your children. Be there for them, and love them.

I had a birth defect and had to have open heart surgery when I was 6 years old. My mom had to threaten him to get him to come to the hospital on the day I was operated on. He went out drinking the night before the surgery. I wish I had a father like this. He died of cancer. He asked my mom why I wasn't coming around more to see him. She said why should he. I don't think he understood. I cried for about a minute at the funeral home. And I think the reason I did was because I would never have a father like this one.
