Střevlík zrnitý - Carabus granulatus (Carabus granulatus)
Střevlík zrnitý je brouk z rodu Carabus, čeledi střevlíkovitých.
Popis
Velikost: 14-23 mm
Povrch těla slabě třpytivě až matně černý a nejčastěji s měďo-hnědým (někdy zeleným) zabarvením s lesklým povrchem
Ze spodu černý, končetiny a tykadla rovněž černé.
Oči silně vystupují.
Tykadla u samců dosahují poloviny krovek u samic dosahují jen jedné třetiny.
Štít směrem k bázi silně srdčitý, střed štítu velmi hustě tečkovaný.
Krovky oválné a mírně klenuté a mají směrem od hrudi k zadní části těla žebra, mezi nimiž jsou malé, vyvýšené oválky v řadě za sebou. Žebro při středním švu je slabé a mizející před koncem krovek.
Velmi vzácně se vyskytují okřídlení jedinci, ale velmi zřídka létají.
Dlouhé nohy umožňují rychlý běh.
Samec má oproti samici rozšířenější přední chodidla.
Výskyt
Od Evropy až po Japonsko. Byl zavlečeni do Severní Ameriky
V Česku je hojnější na celoročně vlhkých lokalitách a v nížinách, ale stoupá i do hor, až do 2000 m n. m..
Lze ho nalézt ve všech biotopech.
Smíšené nebo listnaté lesy, pole a louky. Vyhledává vlhčí místa jako okraje vod nebo podmáčenější půdu.
Nacházíme jej pod kameny, kůrou, listím v mechu a podobně.
Život
Jsou masožraví. Jejich potravou jsou slimáci, žížaly či šneci.
Živí se dravě nejčastěji drobnějším hmyzem a mršinami, byl pozorován také na tlejícím ovoci.
Výskyt od dubna do září.
Střevlíci jsou aktivní v noci nebo za dne po dešti.
Nová generace se líhne na podzim (do září), poté přečká zimu. Od dubna začíná být aktivní.
Samička vajíčka klade do vyhrabané díry v zemi, celkem naklade přibližně 40 vajíček.
Od konce května probíhá páření a kladení vajíček.
Larva je dravá a vytváří si podzemní komůrku, kam často zatahuje kořist.
Vývoj trvá nejdéle do šedesáti dní. Po vylíhnutí z kukly, během července a srpna jako většina střevlíkovitých zimuje, velmi často pod kůrou nebo v tlejícím dřevě s dostatečnou vlhkostí.
Zimování probíhá hromadně, často kolem 5-20 exemplářů.

Carabus granulatus is a small beetle in the Carabus genus.
Description
Length: 14-23 mm
It is characterized by an elongated body which is not very convex and an enlarged thorax.
The antennae and the legs are black, the upper part of the animal is shiny, predominantly greenish bronze, green or occasionally black.
The elytra are subparallel with "chain link" (longitudinal grooves with granules).
Some individuals have wings but rarely use them.
Habitat
Across the Palearctic from Ireland to the Russian Far East and has been introduced to North America.
It is widespread in Europe.
It lives in fields, prairies, taiga and in forests. Also along river margins, in fens, lakeshores, and upland peat. It is occasional in gardens.
Biology
They become active in March or April although they may also become active during mild winter spells.
One of the very few species of ground beetles that have not completely lost their ability to fly, only the mountain forms are short-winged.
Nevertheless, they are nocturnal predators and generally remain on the ground.
They are feeding on a variety of insects and worms etc. but they also, or even predominantly, predate snails;
During the day they hide under tree trunks or stones.
Mating occurs from April and oviposition begins a little later. The females lay about forty eggs.
Individual eggs are laid in burrows a few cm deep which are then filled with soil and they hatch within a week or two.
The nocturnal and predatory larvae develop through the summer, they pass through 3 instars and are fully grown within 40 to 60 days, pupation occurs from late summer and new-generation adults appear in the autumn.
Overwintered adults may reproduce in the spring but some, and perhaps a majority, do not and will overwinter a second time before doing so.
