Only missing three from this list: The H. gigas, the Xenesthis, and the Lava spider. I would add the Ceratogyrus, either popular one.
I would like to see a top ten "hardest" rehouse list. Those sweet little darlings that wait until you blink, or take a breath, then bolt across your living room and halfway up your wall.

My Indian ornamental ended up on the ceiling once, was my first adult old world rehouse too. I was scared to death that it would fall because I didnt want a rupture to happen and being 5'4 I cant exactly reach the ceiling at all.
Still have her, she is a very bold spider and spends more time out than most my others.

  • @SergeiMosin

I would definitely put C. Sp "Hati Hati" on the list. They're epic web architects, and make large funnels that they like to sit inside of. Very fun species to observe and while their venom is medically significant, they are infinitely more likely to run and hide than even consider a threat pose.

  • @audriclabonte166
    @audriclabonte166 Před rokem +10

Great ones that weren't mentionned would be in my opinion the Grammostola iheringi and the Pterinopelma sazimai. Their venom is not that strong, but they can be very skittish, fast and sometimes defensive. They are great species to bridge the beginner to intermediate gap before going for a Psalmopoeus sp. I'd say.

  • @amazingaquaticsandexotics3030

would love to try some of these intermediate spiders. been keeping beginner spoods for over 7 months [ curly hair, aphonopelma, red knee etc ] and wonder when i will build enough confidence to keep them

    • @modlich6067

Just buy them, your spiders will be decent size before old worlds/poes will become dangerous (L1 murinus wont hurt you). Just be smart. You will gain experience and skills before they get big.

There's no need to worry so long as you do your homework. Read up, watch videos from other keepers. There are a lot of keepers with great information, for example, Dave's beasties and join tarantula groups on social media. Lots of info is out there. If you stick to 5-6 inch max grow length you will be fine when you start expanding. Before you make your choice keep in mind the growth rate and size. A fast growth rate means faster rehouse times so you will need enclosures and set up faster. Also, with larger species comes larger enclosures. Be sure you have the room for its final set up. If you want a large T without the old world hassle I recommend the Brazilian Black. Extremely slow growing, very mild demeanor, not very bolty, and super fuzzy tanky beefcakes.

Hey! Congrats for your work! It is along with arachnoboards a significant knowledge resource about T's
I have a point about Psalmopeus Irminia and reduncus. I have 2 small (2"dls) irminia and an immature (about4" dls) reduncus . All of them are nervous the few times I handle them and normally jump like frogs (they are supposed to, after all) but have never ever taken defence posture or attacked even under stress. I guess it has to do about specimens and individuals if they are docile or devils

Great list Richard! I've never understood the bad rap that P. murinus gets. I have 5 UMV variants and they're as gentle as kittens. Also I couldn't agree more about P. metallica, in fact I find all Pokies to be a rather shy and unassuming genus. Not too sure about M. balfouri though. Since moulting my girl is out and about all the time, however every time I feed her she throws threat postures at the crickets. It takes her an hour or two to realize they're actually food ! I'd also add P. vittorii to this list. They're very secretive and do need a lot of humidity like irmina, however when out and about they're quite calm.

Panama at some point, since I'd love to add one to my little collection but there's not a whole lot of husbandry information available on them and given the steep price for a sling I'd like to be really darn sure that I know what their care needs are before putting down the couple hundred dollars for one.

I only started keepin' Ts 4 months ago (with 2 GBBs), but already got myself a pair of P. sp mascara subadults (~5" DLS) 2 1/2 months ago. Couldn't resist how the males mature!
The male is like on fire/aggressive/bold all the time, the female is extremely skittish. Never refuse a meal. I just moved them into their final enclosure (18x18x18"). Dug it to the bottom, but always out on display. Awesome spiders to keep anyway! ;-) I also got 3 P. sazimai slings, barely 1/2" DLS.

Been watching your channel. From the very beginning of my T keeping adventure. My very 1st T was a Gooty sling. Now I not only have a Gooty T. I have 4 others and decided that was my stopping point. So I could have proper enclosures and space to display them in my home. Caring for my Ts was also a concern at 1st. But I've had my Ts for almost a year now. Made some mistakes at the very beginning. But it all a learning lesson for me. I recently added a sling Brazilan black and a giant Brazilian white knee. Both are very cool Ts. I also came across a juvenile Ornamental Baboon I had to have. Yeah ignorance is bless some times. And that T is one of my favorites. My little son named him Hulk. It comes out daily and walks around for us to watch. I just leave all my Ts alone for the most part. Just disturbing them when feeding and cleaning up their enclosures. Besides that. Just enjoy watching them. Thanks for all your great videos and info. Keep up the great work.

Did lots of research for a month before buying my first Tarantulas.
Every first advice I got is to start with the New Worlds that are for beginners before getting the intermediate and advance keeper ones.
Also me: buys OBT, C. Darlingi, P. Met, and H. Mac as my first ever Tarantulas 😆😆😆
Idk why but I love Old World heavy webbers and arboreals. Fast forward, now I have 10 Ts and 8 of them are Old Worlds. Gbb and Chaco are the only new world Ts I have.

U know what I really would say the golden b b is the only 1 that does actually display fosorial terrestrial and arboreal living parameters that I've seen
I was stunned how each t from the same species could live totally different

I considered several of these for my second tarantula (I'm limiting myself to 3 so I'm picky) but ended up ordering an N. Incei gold due to their amazing coloring and webbing. Super excited for it to arrive :D

I kinda jumped the gun and got right into it, started with a curly hair and avic. then 2 months later got a few balfouri, an h.gigas, Gbb, p. Metallica, and t. Apophysis. Just got a couple more lil guys in from FNT too 😅 while I personally don’t think it was my BEST decision ever, and wouldn’t recommend it so fast, i don’t regret my new addiction lol.

my metallica is not docile lol, he loves a threat pose. but he has grown into me he only comes out during the day when he's hungry. but he sits on his bark waiting for food over the weekend then eats and scurries off to rest. He was my first but ive done a tonne of reading and youtube to learn and got the best terrarium and equipment. seems settled. next up is an influx of T's when i'm paid regalis, rufilata, versi and maybe a suntiger.

Whats funny is your number one intermediate p. Metallica is pretty much the only tarantula here in bavaria Germany banned. Along with an australian species selenacosmia. However stromatopelma calceatum, h. Mac and many other just as “bad” are totally fine.

So I was given the opportunity to take on an H. gigas sling. Though as a new T keeper, I don't know if I'm ready for a tarantula that is THAT defensive. A sling maybe. But once it starts maturing I don't think I'll be able to take it on. Unless they are able to understand a routine? And maybe know when feedingntime.is, or recognize when they are being rehoused? I'm not sure if T's have thst kind of cognitive thinking. 🤷‍♀️

Just asking, as an owner of a junior Poecilotheria metallica, where does that information of the potency of its venom come from? I´ve heard that Pterinochilus murinus has the most potent venom of all tarantulas.

I'm a new keeper. My first was a male Avic Avic. I couldn't help myself, and probably a stupid thing, I got a P. Metallica. It is absolutely my fav of all. I just wish there was more rehousing how to's for them. I have a horrible rehousing experience ahead of me with it. Stupid me..... I glued the cork hide to the back of the enclosure. I'm clueless as to how I'm gonna get it out....lol.

Now i have a Wild caught Huntsman spider with me and he is doing wel in his terrarium which its a box . Can i know how to build or buy a large terrarium for a Tarantula . There many Tarantulas that are found in the wild in our places and many people kill them when they are found in houses and gardens .
