    Sure you’ve worked this out but for anybody confused: At the moment Atomos do not support Blackmagic log profiles, which is why your monitor was giving you strange waveform readings. Your best bet is applying a Lut in camera on your Sdi output channel from your bmpcc into your Atomos monitor. If you want to apply luts on your Atomos monitor for reference you’ll then need to be luts for Rec709 footage. This way your Atomos monitor will be able to interpret the gamma curve as Rec709. Alternatively buy a SmallHD or Blackmagic Monitor.

    If you select a Braw clip and make all of your iso / WB adjustments you can then CTRL click all the other clips you want this to apply to then hit "use settings" within the Raw window. Then it essentially will copy and paste your raw settings across the clips.

    Not to be that guy, but Z log is a color profile. B Raw is a codec. The codec doesn’t affect how flat the image is. You’re comparing 2 different things. The Z cam has a Z raw codec. That would be a more fare comparison to BRaw. Or compare Z Log to Black Magics “Film” color profile in the dynamic range menu. Also, the z cam having better high lights and shadows could be more of a sensor/dynamic range thing.

    Thanks for the test. Yet i feel like you should have spent a tiny bit more time matching the colors between those 2 cause here i'm seeing much more contrast + saturation in BMPCC6K which makes me feel like it gives a way better image. But i'm pretty sure you can get the same kind of image with the correct color correction. Especially at 16:05

    The way you are processing that Braw something seems way off. Are you viewing it in resolve as something you shot in BMD film, in a blackmagic design color space? It looks like you've take braw and done like a r709 conversion or something. Its really strange looking. Also, to copy node data from one clip to the next on Mac all you have to hit is the + sign to pull from the clip directly left, and the minus sign, for the clip two spaces to the left. Also, you can do "grab still" and then apply that grade to whatever clip you want. That also passes the braw data, or at least it does in resolve 16. Thanks for the work you've put into this, as I know its a lot of work...but seems like theres a few issues with your processing chain and raw.

      Flannel Ninja you should look in the color management area of your preferences. Seems like there may be some type of conversion happening or some setting causing that. When you import braw in bmd film profile into your media page it should look exactly like your camera does without the lut preview on, which looks very similar to what you are showing as zlog in the video.

    • @joshkiddfilms1295
      @joshkiddfilms1295 Před 5 lety

      @@FlannelNinjaTech No, this is not normal. BRAW in film log format does not look like the images you've shown. Neither cDNG does look that way. Something is very wrong with your Resolve setup. It can't be the camera, because no one else has reported such a bug, and also it looks normal in the histogram/camera-screen. The problem is your setup of Resolve. Go to the project properties and under color management make sure everything looks right, and you don't let the app to add a lut for you or anything like that.

    @3AcesFilms Před 4 lety

    I think other people have addressed this already, but your pocket6k raw footage looks like it was set to video rather than film. Resolve is something you need to learn. Braw files are nowhere near as big as raw of old, 12:1 compressed braw footage still looks pristine for most purposes. Once you start shooting narratives in raw, you will not go back, it's so versatile. If you've ever forgotten to set your white balance, it's a major pain to fix it, with a raw format it's a matter of changing a slider in your editor. Of course as you say, you can record concerts in a lower quality codec, but yeah that takes us into a whole new territory, where you'd probably be better off using one of the canon or panasonic cameras.

The exposure problem is something you're doing wrong, and with 12:1 BRAW you get way better quality, size and flexibility than any flavour of prores (except proxy, that is a bit smaller, but nowhere near as good an image or grading experience). I shoot everything 12:1.

    You seem to not understand how dynamic range works. Read the dynamic range charts for these cameras, specifically the bmpcc6k. You're misconceptions lead you to believe that in outdoor settings, you need to use the lowest ISO. This is not the case. Go back to your braw files for that outdoor scene with the statue figures and select ISO 1000. Use the highlight recovery tool and drop the exposure values. You'll instantly get back all that highlight information that was clipping at lower ISO values. Next time you film outside, expose properly for a higher ISO. You're welcome.

    • @xl9119
      @xl9119 Před 5 lety

      the highlight recover will effect the highlights only, while iso will effect the over all exposer. The parades should show the Raw Image, but on the camera, it doesn't. maybe because he did not switch to film - dr.
      he didn't shoot in low iso at all, instead he just turned it low in post.
