This is the comparison video I've been waiting for - thank you!
I've been looking forward to this for a while! Thanks!
Thank you for providing the footage! Even if I don't get the chance to work with these cameras, I like to still get familiar with working with the footage.
As a zcam e2 and pocket 4k user the zcam pros are:
- Higher fps in 4k even though it's h265 420 10bit, it's very usable
- Build is like a tank
- You can control all your setting via smartphone
- Battery solution is way way way better. Depending on what you are doing, you can choose the size of the NPF battery
- You still have h264 and h265 codecs, beside prores and raw. These codecs are used for R&G shoots like for news and reportage
- Real Time assistance from the zcam team that even the CEO replies to users in the facebook groups
- REC709 on the zcam is the best I have ever used on a camera. It has a lot of DR
- soon there will be an integration with Atomos Recorder, which include camera control and proresraw
- the plugin for Premiere for zraw is on the way, for premiere users
My next upgrade will be the zcam E2 S6 super35 6k because the flagship models have user interchangeable mount (EF, PL, Mft, Leica M, E mount from a third party manufacturer) even it's more expensive than the pocket 6k.
Yup it's a great camera and with the updates it will be even better
thanks for sharing great information ! whats your opinon about zcam e2c ?
@@kimki4kay4k41 the e2c is very great entry level on the zcam lines. You can have prores through usbc and raw.
@@MelnardEdaCinematography123 E2C is very subpar, I would stay away from it. E2 is another case.,
News and reportage capabilities seem quite irrelevant since it's a cine cam. If you gotta do this kind of run and gun, you're better off using some sort of camcorder.
I just love those vintage cameras he uses in test shots 😍
Incredible video! Very detailed. One stop shop for comparison.
This video is extremely helpful as I won't think about Z Cam at all after that.
I bought the E2 for the high frame rates. I was already used to shooting 100fps on my A6500 and RX100 IV, but lack of detail was clearly noticeable when cutting to and from 4K footage. Then of course I was even happier with my purchase when they increased the frame rateS in 4K to 150/160.
The only real downside is that it becomes a bit bulky once you add a cage and monitor on top.
Thanks a lot Tom for such an awesome video!
Very informative video! Thank you for all the details 👍
Z-Cam has updated recently its software and now it can record ProRes in all the frame rates offered by the camera.
This is internal?
@@ChrisHonesto yes
Thanks for doing this and your time sir !
I filmed the same clock in Allentown! Great review! Thank you :)
Great comparison man! I've been watching your videos for awhile now and just realised I wasn't subscribed! lol... I'm now! Thanks for the video
Thx Tom! Good comparison, as always! I think, the both camera are great, but BM wins ZCam on all counts!
My BMPCC4K comes in tomorrow! I bought be cause I’m tired of Franken-rigging my GH5 to get ProRes HQ. For work, I shoot commercials of a wide range. On the high-end I typically rent the Alexa Mini or UMP G2, but I wanted something quick and easy for my low-end work. Also a major plus for the Pocket is the Studio version of Resolve! Can’t wait to fully dive into that!
There is something about Blackmagic marketing strategy that really appeals me and owning BMPCC4k makes me very comfortable and optimistic for the future...its a very solid solution in terms of hardware/ software, and i hope they keep this track! Thank you Tom, you´ve been helping me since my GH4...keep on!
Nice review. Could you consider to do a comparison of the colour science from both cameras. Mainly how they both treat skin tones.
Great comparison thanks
Great review. Thank you.
big thanks Tom
BM still rocks! thanks
after looking closer at footage i can say that highlight rolloff is much better on BM. it just looks more natural. on the other hand zcam has a bit sharper image
Fantastic series of videos Tom (Zcam/pocket), I was waiting on this one before pulling the trigger between the 2 (now I'm working with 2 canon EOS R and Ninja V).
I believe the E2 does 60p / C4K in ProRes 422 and downs to 30p only in HQ 422 (and also up to 75p full readout 4K UHD in LT 422). It still gives the edge to the Pocket for the codecs (not mentioning BRaw) but the higher H265 frame rates in 4K of the E2 make it the only option on the market for a very decent 120fps C4K with no crop !
Also the E2 has a huge edge for anamorphic because the sensor is higher than the Pocket 4K (13mm (like the pocket 6K) vs 10mm) and offer a 1.33 mode at 59.94 fps ProRes with an impressive 3696 x 2772 full height sensor readout.
The iOS app for the E2 is great with less latency than Atomos monitors when plugged in usb C (see Kai W excellent video). The E2 becomes a super tiny setup with just a MFT lens and an iPhone mount on the top. The form factor is better, I wish Blackmagic did the same and let us use the monitor we want (that'd be fantastic if they could release in 2020 a mini version of the 4K and 6K without the monitor and 30% less expensive).
I already ordered the Metabones x.064 and the Sirui 50 1.33 last week, I'm going with the Zcam !!!!!
Thanks Tom for your always excellent review and advice.
@Memoirs by Alex Sorry if I wasn't clear. The E2 has a 19.0 x 13.0 mm sensor with max resolution of 4096 x 2772 pixels, whereas the P4K has a 18.96 x 10 mm sensor with max resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. The +3 mm height (vertical) of the E2 sensor gives you the option to use these 2772 vertical pixels (full height of the sensor) when you shoot in anamorphic 1.33x (the width is then 3696 px, you have 4K in 3696 x 2772 ProRes 30p/422HQ, 50p/422 and 60p/422LT). This gives you the equivalent of a full size 35 mm sensor when shooting in this mode.
The P4K does 80p (all codecs) but only 2880 x 2160 and this makes a 1.3x crop difference with the E2.
If you desqueeze the P4K footage by stretching the horizontal aspect of your footage (making it 1.33x larger), you still have technically a 4K vertical image (2160) so that is why it will not make a big quality difference with a 4K UHD.
I agree that upscaled (HD to 4K) footage can trick you on CZcams but not on the original footage, neither on a large 4K TV. I'm editing on a LG C9 Oled 65in that I just got myself for Christmas, and since then I abandoned 1080p because it's hurting my eyes ;)
As I mentioned I worked (commercial, corporate videos) in 2019 with 2 EOS R (I was on Sony A7iii in 2018), the 4K is limited to 30p so that's why I needed to add a faster 4K frame-rate camera to my setup. I ordered the E2 at Adorama just after I saw Tom's video, it will integrate just fine in my existing setup and workflow as I'm shooting ProRes or H264/265 with my Canon/Ninja V setup, and it will give me ProRes 4K up to 60p and 4K uncropped H265 up to 120p which is what I needed. I might add a Pocket 6K later on this year to replace one of my EOS R if the new EOS R ii/Pro is not Pro enough... Who knows with Canon lol. Or a C500 mkii (the dream) if my little business does good.
As a second camera to my GH5 I’m going towards the Z cam, it will be ideal to set up on my gimbal as a light b roll camera with high fps and WiFi control through my phone. And the GH5 as a light hand held run and gun set up.
Hi I am also moving towards the zcam as a second camera Tony GH5 as i do documentary work and you are doing tbe GH5 will be for all run N Gun work and the Zcam for tripod second angle and gimbal work.
even with youtubes compression I can see the difference in bit depth between the two BMPC wins out in my book .The Z cam is good for small spaces though were it might be hard to get another camera.
Hey Tom, thanks again for another great review! I was waiting for this to help kinda make my mind up between these two cameras. I know this shouldn't matter much but when it comes down to client , customer professional presentation ( you know , looking legit, looking the part ) the pocket 4k looks a lot like a DSL. Again this shouldn't matter but it kinda does.
Fair point
Thank you for the sample files. Just downloaded and playing around with them in DaVinchi and FCP X. Really wished there was RAW support in FCP but I doubt that will ever come. But interesting to see that the ProRes files are very similar to the BRAW (minus the flexibility of post RAW adjustments). But great opportunity to see what the footage looks. Thank you very much again.
You are welcome Joe
@@TomAntos Having looked at it, you are making me want to get a BMPC4K 😡 lol
I have a Pocket 4k fully rigged and I use Sony NP-f 970 with an adapter plate. Two batteries and the plate totaled about $80 and each battery gives me almost three hours of juice just powering the camera. Shooting a full day documentary I use about 3 to 4 batteries and I can hotswap, so no interruptions if I'm Recording. That's huge for me. Thinking of buying a v-mount at some point, but super satisfied with my battery solution. Thinking of purchasing the 6k, instead of the 6k pro simply because I can rig it out like the 4K. The 6k Pro is slightly bigger and don't fit in the SmallRig cages and I will get the same quality picture from the 6k gen 1. Waiting to see what BM drops next....!
I always look at cameras from the 3D stereoscopy point of view. Since the E2 is less than 10 cm wide, it is a clear winner for me. Especially since you can synchronize any number of them, so they shoot at exactly the same time (you can probably do that with the Blackmagic, too, but you cannot place two of them next to each other close enough for proper 3D). I am talking based on their specs, so if you can confirm it, that would be great.
Haven't watched you in a while (sorry, notifications were off) and it's interesting to see that as your audience grows you are becoming so much more careful about what you say and how you say it, almost staying away from telling us what you really think. Be careful not to fall into the trap of censuring yourself to keep or get subscribers. I personally want you to tell me what you really think
Keep up the good work
Thanks for coming back. I dont ever restrict myself from what I say but I am now more careful to explain to people when I mention a fact versus my opinion. Opinions are just that. Mine will never be the same as every other person out there. It's sad to see how easily people get offended because people out there have a different opinion. Not just about this topic but anything else for that matter.
@@TomAntos yeah i hear you. But i love your channel
I think I would own both. More options for different situations.
Thank you for the great video again! I’m thinking to get the Z Cam E2C, I need to do more research on that.
The E2C seems very attractive. It records to SD cards, which I personally prefer over the CFAST cards used by the E2. It is also a lot less expensive than the E2 (and than the Blackmagic camera). Because of that, it has fewer stops, and it does not offer those high frame rates. If that were the only limitations, I would go for the E2C. But there is another difference, which is important to me (but may not matter to you): You can synchronize multiple E2 cameras, but there is no synchronization available for the E2C. I like shooting in 3D with two cameras which have to be perfectly synchronized, so I have to go with the E2 (strangely, the new 6k and 8k E2 cameras do not seem to have the sync ability, though perhaps that will change by the time they are ready to be released). If not for that, I would go with the E2C.
Henry Chan i want the e2c but I haven’t seen any 1080 footage and it’s only 60FPS.
RustyTube thank you for the detailed reply and information! Now I know the differences better! I agree with you, for my purposes of making CZcams review videos and occasional video projects by myself, I think the E2C is good enough for me and the price is definitely very attractive. It's so cool that you make 3D videos! Thanks for sharing!
one901 I know what you mean, the frame rate can be a little drawback on the E2C but I have been using 60fps for most of my work and so far it's not bad especially if I'm using a gimbal. I will keep you all updated if I get the E2C
@@henrymediagroup You’re very welcome.
and p.s. if you are more run and gun, then ithink BM is better cus you can save presets for different settings and switch between them with one click . On Z cam you have to scrub through menu which is a lot slower so more suited for controlled shoots
thanks man for vid
When you factor in the free Blackmagic DaVinci software, the price difference is even greater.
My thought as well...
but it's free already. unless the software come with it is studio version?
Maximilian Y.
Yep it’s the full version, not the free version. 👍👍👍
I bought the pocket 4k and returned it because of the battery life and the form factor. The Z cam might be a good alternative.
@@lolturbine the form factor is much better than zcam. because you dont need an additional monitor. you can use it for run & gun with display loupe and a bunch of batteries. sure, 20 minutes is not much. but for most purpose of youtube filmers, its enough. to use the zcam, you have to rig it all the time. menues and no real screen is horrible.
Z-Cam has a 6K and also 8K versions of the camera, a bit more expensive but for 15 stops of dynamic range and up to 140 fps, I wouldn't wait to have one of those. Plus, it was stated by the producers that they will release a plugin (or already have, correct me if I'm wrong) for editing the Z-Raw files in Premiere. It's obvious that the company hasn't finished yet with the software upgrades that are coming for these cameras, thus it will be very interesting to see what's expected.
15? lol cmon man!

I love that the P4K looks like a standard DSLR. People are used to seeing those. Anything that looks too much like a cinema camera would start to draw too much attention for that I do. The P4K is perfect for my travel videos and stock capture. The world is becoming hyper sensitive to people recording video around them.
Bro...that ish is huge af....no way that's normal 😭

Again an awesome video delivered, thank you, Tom!
Tom would have said "like I said, it s a cine camera". Because he says "like I said every 3 min!!:-) .... and because it s a cine camera, like I said :-)
@@xavpil2 haha, did you too jump right to the autofocus part? :))
Still would pick the pocket 4k or ZCam.
As a Pocket 4k and 6k owner.... I Prefer Z Cam honestly.... easier to mount on all gimbals... higher FPS still at 4k and even higher at 1080. The battery types to power it. Less crop in with the FPS ... the battery and form factor for gimbals with the FPS at 1999 is perfect for me
thx, would be great showing camerarolling and movements...it sometimes a real trouble topic...just reminding my panasonics and some undefined behavioure starting at internal up to files chaning or destructed, creating real strange effects and making some usecases or material real hard use or useless...esp. in productions this is some bad topic as customisers expect good and always perfect results.
The one ergonomic test that you forgot to mention is mounting each of these on a gimbal. The P4K is a very wide camera and may not be a great fit with some gimbals, where the ALEXA mini shape of the ZCam makes it a lot easier to mount and balance on a gimbal.
SewTubular he did mention that the P4K was a bit too wide for certain gimbals.
But not when used with a cage...
Love the reviews and we get it... no need to tell us it is your opinion.
On a side note, I’d swear I was listening to Father Guido Sarduci from old school SNL! I keep waiting for the comedy act :)
2.6k on the Pocket 4K also goes quite high in the FPS game.
120 max and it's still usable in a 4K timeline.
@@incubus_the_man Yep! :) Very nice software update for us BMPCC4K users.
z-cam's high speed is full sensor 4k. Up to 120fps 4k full sensor for the e2-4k
Great comparison. Thank you. May you tell us what camera have you used to shoot this video, please?
I feel like a new round of Zcam reviews needs to come out bc they're always changing things. But I feel like Blackmagic will come out with an upgraded M43 camera after gh6 comes out. Just my prediction though
Nice!!
Tom are you going to get your hands on any of the higher res ZCAMs ? ;) Would love to see you doing some comparisons.
Hey Tom Can you please do a Dog fight test between Arri Alexa LF and Red Gemini?
This was a tough review to do; however, I don't think that there is a loser here. I have two GH5's and a Panasonic HPX 270. I do multicamera shoots and for some jobs another camera would be helpful. I think another GH5 might be the best choice. Matching cameras is such a pain and for live streaming it is worse.
Im trying to wait for the Panasonic GH6, but the Zcam is very appealing with the frame rate. And the Pocket has the 6k Model... It's killing me.
Yes, BMKCC 4K all the way. Remember that the studio version of Davinci Resolve comes with it. If price was the only factor, BMPCC4K has it by far. The only benefit in my opinion is the Zcam seems to be an easier fit for a gimble. But the pocket 4K does as well with the right setup. The fact that the Zcam costs more just doesn't make sense for what you get for $700 less.
As a zcam e2 and pocket 4k user the zcam pros are:

Zcam can do 240 fps also with crop, and actually in prores.
It seems or the footage from the Z Cam looks sharper? I like the pocket 4k as a camera.
I want to use a gimble and anamorphic lens, so I think it seems like I should choose the Zcam
Z Cam E2 is my choice, honestly
not me. it looks harsh. there's a gritty digital texture if you look close. the pocket looks more creamy
allinthemind2006 Exactly and it has much better color science and contrast. I’m not shitting on Zcam (well. I will on ZRAW haha) as it has a LOT of great potential. But they are playing the resolution game and pumping out the F4, F6 and now F8 and still have not fixed the garbage codec, nor updated their color science which is WAY more important than resolution. When it comes to cinema cameras, my first choice is still the ARRI 416. I love film! And super 16 looks so so so good. Watch the walking dead to see how nice the 416 looks. But with digital cin cameras. I’ve never had a need to shoot above 4K. Truthfully 2.5K is the sweet spot. Match that with good color science, and you have a great digital camera - which is exactly what the Arri Alexa Mini is. It maxes out a 2.5k and looks better than ALL the 8-12K cameras. So, for a personal use cinema camera. I love the pocket 4K. Yeah it has some things I would change. Mainly the mount and sensor size. But it’s raw format is seriously rad. Colors are great, and it’s overall picture is very pleasing to the eye - after color correction etc. some one wanting a good cin camera, within the 5,000$ range. This is the best buy available. It coming with DR is also a huge HUGE plus. BMD did it right with this camera. Updates are still quite regular too - unlike the URSA mini and other cameras brands. The 6K I feel was a bad move (simply as it was a res hype product). But I have a feeling they will unleash a serious beast one day.
@@CaptainMyCaptain33 When it comes to film camera, how does the camera really influence the image ? It's more about the film stock and the lens, and the film conversion to digital afterwards. It's odd to say "check out how the XXX Film camera looks", it's like saying "look how good this bottle tastes", it's more about what's in the bottle (the film stock) and what you food you drink it with (the lense)
@@allinthemind2006 you guys should really give it another look cause I owned both the original E2 and their New S6 and never got a "digital" harshness to it at all.
@@CaptainMyCaptain33 Z Cam gives multiple flavors of ProRes422 as well as 10bit 420 h.265, 8bit h.264, ZRAW and ProResRAW externally. That's a hell of an array of options to fit different needs.
They can also shoot all high FPS in ProRes422 which is very impressive as well as different aspects ratios which is helpful for Anamorphic shooting.
I don't really see a problem with their Color Science especially since they constantly improve their Cams and don't leave them behind (kinda the way BM does with some of its cams). So each camera point gets better with time.
I'd even bet you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference after grading both, not to mention they have better body shapes
Thanks Tom, great video. I'd love an E2 that could shoot BRAW, using a BM menu 😂 I''ve been very torn between these 2, and have been following the E2 Facebook group for a while. Lots of users, to their surprise, report finding barely any difference in quality between ProRes and H265 footage (though of course it's harder for a computer to edit the H265). I do like that there's such a rich community creating amazing extras to use with the.E2, like the RVLVR Clutch handle, which has fab functionality with the E2.
It looks like the E2 is going to get some extra functionality with Atomos very soon, though Z-Cam are not saying exactly what yet. People are predicting camera control and ProRes RAW. Let's wait and see.
I shoot a lot of action sports, often in very cold temps, and expect the battery life of the E2 would be a major plus, along with the 4k high frame rates. But I also do a lot of indoor interviews, where I expect the BMPCC would have the edge. I have the original BM Pocket and love the image, but the battery life makes it so hard to work with. I love BM, but am sorely tempted by the E2!
Thanks for all your great stuff you share.
I can't think of why the Pocket would have the edge in doors, the E2 is pretty good in/out doors
@@phoenixfunny4517 Yeah, I'm sure the E2 is pretty darn good indoors, and probably quite enough for what I need. I've seen some great stuff from it. I'll probably go for the E2, or possibly the S6 version due to the e-ND, outstanding at the price point and very handy for what I do. BRAW is sweet though, and that's the key reason I'd go for the Pocket 4k or 6k for more controlled indoor settings. The RAW out of the original BM pocket is outstanding. I don't hear great things about ZRAW - yet at least - but ProRes is perfect for 90% of what I do.
@@alzibaba I'd go for the S6. ZRAW is in its infancy but it's only going to get better. Premiere will be getting a plugin to use it natively and it'll also receive ProResRAW soon. So we'll have THREE different RAW codecs. ZRAW 12bit, ZRAW 14bit and ProResRAW. That's pretty dope
@@phoenixfunny4517 sure is 👍 As a Resolve user I'll be waiting in hope for integration with Resolve, Premiere ain't the best on a Mac

pocket 4k all the way!
I own the Ursa Mini 4.5K and I’m not a fan of DaVinci Resolve. HOWEVER the Z Cam’s workflow sounds like even more of a headache. I also own a Raven BUT the 4K prores from BM is just yummy so I often reach for the Ursa.
What are the temperature values of Z cam? Is there a problem with the cooling?
Hi Tom. I'm looking to upgrade from my GH5, thinking to get the used Lumix S1 but I found with the new firmware 2.0 in 2021, S1 can shoot 6k & Raw to HDMI ( Which is higher resolution than E2 ) but I never own a cine camera before so my knownledge is limited. Do you recommend S1 or E2 at this moment as I found them same price at used market. Thank you very much
i notice the z-cam image bends the table up in terms of image and the shelf above it bows down at the edges and the bmpcc4k is much straighter in those areas.
Dude, SO many reviews of the Z-Cam show this bowed image, and literally none of them say anything about it.
It's unbelievably noticeable when they cut back and forth between the Z-Cam and the BMPCC4K.
The fact that no one addresses this makes me feel like I'm schizophrenic or something...lol
@@daveyineluctable5525 this is one reason why i would rather get the bmpcc4k (already own one) and deck it out with accessories which you would still need to do with the z-cam but at a much higher cost with the camera and all. the bowed image in this is some of the worst i have seen.
@@hs_plays3718 it's because the z-cam is not automatically removing the lens distortion, the Blackmagic is. It's not a problem with the camera. Automatically removing lens distortion can sometimes be an issue for VFX, but for general shooting I guess it's desirable to remove it.
@@adamhawkes84 as i say if i was to be shooting for vfx i would get something that didn't do that but for most cases the bmpcc4k is better for me.
But where test dynamic diapazone, with over expose in post production?
Think i heard in a previous video that the quality of the zraw is still going to be 10bit. That true? If that's the case then braw is another ballpark. Great sharing. Thank you.
No. From the Facebook group, I’ve found out that ZRaw is 12 bit (4:4:4 I think) and stretches to 14-when shooting in low noise mode.
Zcam app is pretty good for what it is. I use it in more convenient ways than a monitor when I have to frame myself up on camera. Z cam all day long is so much better. I really really really really wanted to love the black magic but I was pretty disappointed in its lack of flexibility
Will it match up the pocket 4k with the gh5
Tom, what has happened to your BMPC4K screen? The corner has a light bleeding like it got moisture inside
Hi Tom enjoyed the video but wanted to ask I have the gh5 and do a lot to doc work and film using the atomos ninja v either in ProRes or recently in avid dnx. I am looking to get a second camera and was going to by the GH5s as I hope the price will drop with launch of a GH6 and then ifilm in the GH5s in 400mbs to keep up the quality stomach the ProRes on the gh5. However, would you say I should go for the scene E2 m4 or the blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k and will it be easy to match with the gh5 or is is sensible to stuck with the GH5s for an easy workflow. Ps I dont make money on my docs as I am retired and they are my passion project so spending load might be a mistake? Any advice To would be appreciated. Thanks JF
Hey Tom reay helpful video..but I have a GH5 and want a second camera to match both camera . So what do you about the GH5s is a great cinema camera an i have the ninja V and can record in Avid DNx
Hi, great video. Looking to upgrade my set-up to the bmpcc4k. I currently have a canon 80d with a 50 f1.8 as well as a 24-105 f4. What would you recommend I purchase to get the essentials? Thanks!
Check out my video where I talk about all my upgrades here czcams.com/video/XpkUHs_gHBU/video.html
which camera did you use to record your video?
Thank you for your effort Tom. Interesting although my mind is made up: BMPCC 4K :-)
Which camera best recommend for making movies? RED and ARRI so good but they are very heavy and expensive! now with advance technology I hope for a true lightweight cinematic video camera for Hollywood movies. What's your suggestions??
Panasonic GH5
hey mate, actually to make movies I would recommend getting high dynamic range. This is what the pocket does not have, but if you like Blackmagic I would go for the URSA Mini Pro. Otherwise Z Cams F6 is supposed to have 15stops of Dynamic Range too. Unfortunately there is not a lot of footage out there to really judge, but on paper it seems quite promising.
It seems like the z cam is a little more 'brilliant in it's contrast and colour where the blackmagic is more neutral... although I like the z cam better, neutral might be better for making films... although I like the image z cam much more... the shape is better for filming also... so I'm sold on the z cam again.... Thank you!
this is based on the face the FPS don't have too much relevance to me
although with that in mind, I'm look towards the 8K version anyway, so maybe I'm not losing that anyway if I ever need it
can you do a comparison between 6k pocket blackmagic, arri alexa mini and the Z Cam 8k? on thing I understand is that chinese camera technology is not great when it comes to dynamics details of the images make a huge difference. so is the 8k any good just because it's 8k larges resolution?
Add the Sigma-FP in the mix, please
regards, Rick
that crap cant even shot 4k60p

Hi tom thanks for the great video , my question on the z cam e2 is about the h.265 codec at 120 FPS ? is there any problem in terms of playback and editing in primer pro and davinci resolve ? cos iv'e heard h.265 is not the easiest for editing . thanks mate.
Yup you heard right. Doesnt matter what frame rate you shoot in, editing the h.265 is really hard on the system. So you will need a top of the line computer for editing it or you can do what I do which is to first convert it to apple prores then edit it. This is one of the biggest reasons why I love using the Blackmagic cameras. Their BRAW codec is amazing
@@TomAntos great thanks for that, what software you use to convert to prores ?
and what about creating proxy files in premier ?
Can canon 50mm and 24mm lenses used on bmpcc 3k with out adapters
if the lenses have a Canon EF mount then no. You will need an adapter to MFT
Why hasn’t anyone been comparing the z2 to the micro studio camera
Hi Tom! Quick question... Can you also control the BMPCC with the bm5 monitor as well?? Thanks!
I have not tried that so can't confirm either way. Sorry.
Tom Antos oh, that’s okay, just wondering 😎👍
So for the Z Cam E2 the Portkeys just hooks up to camera? No special cord to control camera right?
Hi Tom, I like your work and your opinions, thanks! I just want to know your opinion about my 2020 future hobby, I'm a videographer and photographer since the 80's, today I do not take photography weddings anymore as business because I am retired, and for a hobby I want to make short films that I have written 3 years ago, my question is, on a low budget should I wait for the FUJIFILM X-T4 ? (by the way I love the XT-3 but I still don't have it), I have back herniated disc problems and I need two light cameras, and I thought that with a low budget I should buy two XT4 instead of two BMP? Thanks for your opinion!
Good question! I own the the Bmpcc4k , bmpcc6k and xt3. And my personal opinion is that I have used the blackmagic cameras mostly for commercial work. But the xt3 is crazy amazing. I shot a short fashion film and the client liked the video quality from the xt3 more. The xt3 has usable autofocus and the 4K 60 with autofocus is crazy good. The xt3 is also amazing when it comes to recovering shadows because of the 10 bit. Personally I will be buying the xt4 as soon as it’s announced. But the blackmagic cameras are amazing too and plan to used them a lot more.
@Dan C Thank you for you advise my friend! 👍
Is RAW so important ('cuz it sucks on the zcam)or can you just use prores on both cams?
Prores is also great. On my zcam I use prores actually because raw is too slow to work with. On the pocket cameras I use raw because I can edit it right away on davinci resolve
Right now my local store the zcam e2c sells in 1000$.
And the bcc4k sells in 1500$.
Watched the whole video. Still dont known what to choose.
P4K. because you get davinci studio version as bonus.
In Raw BM shoot more fps, for me it's better
Thanks! You are really cool: for this 700 you can buy batteries ;)
tom can you please assist me , I have the davinci resolve 15 , and when I shoot BRAW I can't import it to davinci , so I am forced to use PRORES only since many months now , can you help please
Update to Resolve 16.

@@Gio_EL thank you , it worked finaly
Pocket 4k is a game changer
You didnt mention the built in mics on the 4k
who really uses built in mics in any camera, unless its for scratch audio.
There's a lot of things I didn't mention otherwise it would be an even longer video. I just talked about things that people asked me on my previous video or my website
the pocket 4k at the moment! but who knows what Zcam will brings us in the future with their new 6k and 8k
ZCAM S6, F-6, and F-8 are the best bang for buck cameras on the market. Period.
I find it really disappointing that BM doesn't offer h265. The h264 is SOOOO OLD (and shit) yet there are times when you just need to record lots of footage without the hassle of massive storage requirements. I am also a fan of their compressed raw but I want to run a multicam operation (between 4 to 6 cams at once) recording long-format interviews. I want h265 for that. I don't want terabytes of footage per episode adding up from all cameras. And h264 is just crap. From that point of view, the Z-cam is more attractive for that purpose. However, for everything else, I would prefer braw. I think prores is redundant for Davinci Resolve users if you have access to braw.
Does the z cam e2 really give 16 stops in WDR mode?
Not sure but either way the WDR is only usable in shots with not a lot of motion so it's not something that I would recommend using
Polaroid SX-70 Model 2 Still the best 👍😜
Prores Raw is becoming available in a lot of camera systems.
so?
Stating what is happening. You have something to add?
@@jonathanehair88 have you? your idea is incomplete
@@insanedb Thanks
@@jonathanehair88 of course, good talk
I was wonderin, I have the money to buy a Z-Cam E2C today, do you think I should just wait and get the Pocket 4K instead?
Personally I think the Pocket 4K is a much better option than the E2C. And the E2 better than the 4K. On a budget the 4K seems the best option as Tom said. Good luck !
If you need extra FrameRate or H.265, then go for Z-Cam, otherwise I would suggest get a BMPCC 4K. You can use the extra budget to buy a cage(tilta or smallrig), metabone EF mount adapter. Which gives you more flexibility to shoot video.
@@elfguard e2c is a different camera than the shown e2. p4k wins over e2c def. i got myself an e2 and love it.
Don't really care who the winner is as a company I just want the better camera and clearly the best overall experience and value for money goes to the BMPCC and it was showing so much that this is what you wanted to say, but didn't have the courage to say it out loud not to hurt anyone. Anyways , really loved the video and it was very informative and helped me decide. Just got pissed off towards the end.
