  • Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Berlin will not supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus cruise missiles. Scholz cited the missiles' extreme range, and the fact that it would not be possible for Germany to remotely monitor target control. Taurus missiles can hit targets up to 500 kilometers away. Scholz said the missiles' deployment could increase the risk of Germany becoming involved in the war.

We crave for cheap Russian gas, but Germans are screwed in so many ways, starting by our vanishing population, mid-last-century technological focus, our lack of nuclear energy, lack of an army, increased dependence on immigrant labor, the cost of our pension system that cannot be sustained by the declining population, we are just the carcass of a great country that lacked visionary leadership. I don’t know how the situation can be disentangled in Deutschland, really we are in a multi-front challenge. If we give the misiles we just don’t have the funds there to replenish them given the huge fiscal holes.

    • @PjotrII
      @PjotrII Před 2 měsíci

@@offred6013 You have a VERY simplified view of this.
      * A war can spread... a Russian missile hitting a US plane, or flying into Poland, could trigger NATO to respond, first maybe with a very limited responds (sinking a ship)... which then could accelerate to a counter-response and go out of hands.
      - such responses are not always calculations based upon how weak someone is.
Palestinians attacked Israel that is 50 times stronger than them, and now they are beaten up - the question was never: "Either Palestinian HAMAS can fight Israel, or HAMAS is too weak for Israel"... one is true, and a war still started.
Wars don´t start by logical conclusions... Russia is the BIGGEST country in the world... so big that they can´t handle it... regions in the east are poor, and instead of putting money there to develop and create infrastructure, they chose war, and to keep their people poor.
Is a terrorist organization stronger than the US? No, but they could also start a war, not because they will win, but in their wicked minds they can cause damage while dying.
Just like a terrorist group, Russia could not win the NATO, but it could cause enormous damage.
      So look at your claim
      A) Russia can fight
      B) Their weapons are too weak
      - holds already true for HAMAS, who can fight and is all too weak. Houthis can fight but were all too weak, Iraq could fight but was all too weak, IS could fight but was all too weak....
Russia even with it´s weak weapons is the largest army in the world, Ukraine is somewhere at nr 32 -34.
Russia is in WAR mode = companies can be forced to produce war material (shells), they shell some ~7-8 times more shells than Ukraine, they can triple the amount of soldiers, while Ukraine would have a harder time for that- and still - they can hold about 20% of the country after fighting for over 700 days.

t is the United States, along with some of its Western allies, that has stood in the way of peace talks. This was true of talks between Russia and Ukraine that took place in March 2022, one month after the Russian SMO, and it is true of talks that Russia tried to initiate with the U.S. as recently as January 2024. In March 2022, Russian and Ukrainian officials met in Turkey and negotiated a peace agreement that should have ended the conflict. Under that agreement, Ukraine would become a neutral country between east and west, on the model of Austria or Switzerland, giving up its controversial ambition for NATO membership. Territorial questions over Crimea and the self-declared republics of Donetsk and Luhansk would be resolved peacefully, based on self-determination for the people of those regions.
But then the U.S. and U.K. intervened to persuade Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to abandon the neutrality agreement in favor of a long war aimed at driving Russia out of Ukraine and recovering Crimea and Donbas by force. U.S. and British leaders have never admitted to their own people what they did, nor tried to explain why they did it.
The U.S. sabotage of peace talks should come as no surprise. So much of American foreign policy follows what should by now be an easily recognizable and predictable pattern, in which U.S. leaders systematically lie to us about their decisions and actions in crisis situations. By the time the truth is widely known, it is often too late to reverse the catastrophic effects of those decisions. Thousands of people have paid with their lives, no one is held accountable, and the world’s attention has moved on to the next crisis, the next series of lies and the next bloodbath, which in this case is Gaza.
U.S. and NATO leaders have repeated ad nauseam that they are arming Ukraine to put it in a stronger position at the “negotiating table,” even as they keep rejecting negotiations.
U.S. war policy in Ukraine is predicated on just such a gradual escalation from proxy war to full-scale war between Russia and the United States, which is unavoidably overshadowed by the risk of nuclear war. This has not changed in two years, and it will not change unless and until NATO leaders take a radically different approach. That would involve serious diplomacy to end the conflict on terms on which Russia and Ukraine can agree, as they did on the March 2022 neutrality agreement.

Ukraine has been wanting to drag NATO openly onto the battlefield from day one, because they reasoned that the more NATO is openly and unavoidably part of the war, the more Ukraine will be treated as a de facto NATO member themselves, and the stronger a position they will get within NATO. Both Reznikov, Zelensky and Kuleba have been pumping the line that "you know, we already ARE a NATO member in all but name", "We are fighting YOUR war - if we fail, then you're all next!" etc etc for two years.
Of course UA wouldn't last for even two months without the massive inflow of weapons, intelligence, money and open and covert support from the West, but NATO has been trying to maintain some control (deciding power) of what and how they would be sending stuff to keep on arming Ukraine, Kiev wants all the doors to the magazines flung open for them, so they can pick all the really heavy gear, as much as they like.

Chancellor Scholz is the worst chancellor I can imagine when it comes to Ukraine. Everything he does seems to play into Putin's hands in one way or another. For example, deliveries of Scholz's Leopard tanks were delayed by a year. Russia used this time to build defenses and huge minefields, thereby neutralizing the tanks. The same thing is now happening with the Taurus cruise missile. When Taurus is finally delivered, Russia will have figured out the vulnerabilities (through espionage, bribery, etc.) and can successfully fend them off.
The question is whether this has anything to do with the large number of Russia and Putin-friendly SPD members (Gerhard Schröder, Sigmar Gabriel, Manuela Schwesig, Rolf Mützenich, Ralf Stegner, Wolfgang Schmidt, etc.). Scholz was an ardent Marxist in the 80s and belonged to the Stamokap (State monopoly capitalism) wing of the Jusos. Scholz’s reticence towards Putin could also have something to do with his political past. Maybe the SPD doesn't know it: Putin's Russia is now a flawless fascist dictatorship.
The next problem is already looming: Olaf Scholz has “legal concerns” about giving Ukraine the 300 billion euros frozen in the EU (Nawalny act). Remarkable point of view for someone who is involved in the biggest cheating scandal of the post-war period (Cum-Ex scandal) and whose main defense is his major lapses in memory.

Avoiding escalation with Russia is exactly what will cause escalation since it only emboldens Russia and leads to more brutal wars of aggression from Russia

He is "the boss," responsible for the future of the nation. I disagree with him on the issue, little me... I think we should deliver way more, not only Taurus, but not make it public. But, on the other hand we see the almost hysteric reaction of Russians to everything related to Russo/German conflict. They never snapped out of this emotional/ideological connection to WW-2. They even use this as a motivator to their troops: "look how the Leopard burns." They call Ukrainians "Germans" is some radio calls on the front, to name just a few specific examples. So Chancellor Scholz surely has a valid point for his cautious decisions.

I see in the messenger a lot of examples of how Ukrainians draw crosses in the style of the Second World War on their equipment.
Zelensky officially visited the Mi6 office. coincidences?

Germany is splitting hairs while Russia has stated that they view Germany as already fully involved in the war. Putin repeatedly stated that this is a war against all of Europe.
