What the ICJ ruling means for Israel and its allies | DW News

  • Israel has rejected an order from the International Court of Justice in The Hague to immediately stop its military offensive in the southern Gazan city of Rafah. The court described the humanitarian situation there as disastrous but stopped short of ordering a full cease-fire. Israel insists its operations inside Gaza is in line with international law. Israel has been conducting military operations in Gaza since the October 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas.

      The difference is Putin is sentenced by the ICC, so he will be arrested in germany. But Netanayaha is not. The ICJ only judges counties and not individuals. Germany will not arrest him when he would enter germany, since german politics still favours diplomatic relation with israel instead of taking a clear side. I partially agree, but I think the main driving force for Israelis who support the war crimes is nationalism and racism. For Netanyahu it's also the only way to stay in power and outside of jail, that's why he is also keeping a backdoor open to attack Iran again in case the Gaza war has to stop one way or another. He needs to keep war going or he will lose his office power and will consequently go to jail for corruption and other charges.

      Thanks for pointing this out. What we witness here is a horrific misrepresentation of a court ruling by journalists who should know better.
      Sadly, the legitimacy of the ICJ is standing on very shaky legs, thus Israel could make the mistake of legitimising a court which is nothing but a political tool by putting up with its proceedings. The obvious bias and agenda of the ICJ would be an important subject to be picked up by reputable journalism, but I don't see it addressed anywhere by our "quality" media.

Killing of children can never be acceptable and the fact that we somehow managed to get to a point of liberation does not mean we are comfortable with the sacrifices but we know everyday is a struggle and also demands our resilience and fortitude! He is from Lebanon. He argued in the UN earlier that Israel is an "apartheid state", a fringe position only taken by special interest groups. Rockets are also fired daily at Israeli civilians. It's a kangaroo court.

      As an example: More than 60 countries in the world has laws against homosexuality. Burundi just recommended the population kill gays by stoning. The current ICJ president that read the verdict is also from Lebanon, and rockets are fired from Lebanon daily against Israeli civilians. It's a bad joke. In the sport of "world democracy", the tiny ethnic and religious minority in Israel always lose. There are too many marxists, jihadists, and antisemites around. Just count the number of UN resolutions against Israel. It's more than against all other countries of the world combined.

    Okay.. explain to me;
    “The opposition also against the ruling”
    but you also say there are positions across the board. This doesn’t make sense. Just say:
    Overall Israel is against the icj ruling with opposition and prime minister on the same side.

    There is no "Law" in geopolitics. Law without enforcement is no law. The Western press might as well stop deluding its listeners. Israel does what it does because it can, being protected by powerful patron nations like America and Germany. Russia does what it does, because it can; And China will to against Taiwan, when it determines (or deludes itself which humans are want to do) the potential consequences are tolerable.
