I was tired of seeing an item in my closet, so I legit shared it over and over one night and it sold the next day lol. I must have shared those boots a thousand times!
Wow, I'm glad that worked! One of the ideas on my video idea list is to share my closet constantly for 3 or 4 hours on a Saturday, over and over again from say 8-9 am, 12-1 pm, 6-7pm and 8-9pm and see what happens!

I wish Poshmark would LIMIT the times a seller can share items to 3 times within a 24 hour period. Because you get too mzny Desperate sellers who constantly "share" their stuff. Weed out these people.
Question, if you share over and over and over, does that show up a million times in your followers feeds? Would that not annoy your followers? I'm genuinely curious because I'd like to do that although I dont want to annoy anyone.
I spent 6 months in a share group. We were all relentless in how we shared each other's closets. You would post an item that needed sharing and ten to twenty people would share it. I was so excited by the prospect of this helping my sales, then unfortunately I noticed this far too late in joining, that of all the items I had them share, I'd say 2% of them actually sold in what I would consider a quick or reasonable to their sharing time, sold date. I invested so much of my time and energy into sharing that group and promoting closets and them promoting mine but basically got nothing for it. I then switched to a strategy of sharing my own closet multiple times a day and more frequently listing items, and my sales vastly improved. It was like night and day.
I love that you took the time to actually research SHARING and they re-evaluated how you'd spend your time. Thanks for sharing your results with us.

Yes, this!!! I realized this a few months ago, so I started sharing my own closet a LOT more & became a virtual assistant to help others share more too. Exposure is one of the most important aspects of selling so self-sharing has definitely increased my sales! I do community shares from time to time but I've decreased them a lot since learning this. The "algorithm" myth is a potential reason to community share. I've noticed the more active I am in the app (buying, communities shared, welcoming new poshers, sharing posh closets, etc.) the more sales I have.... may be coincidence, I don't really know. But target sharing or sharing to help posh friends, or people who have bought from you, or youtubers, would be a great safe bet whether the algorithm exists or not
I think it's true because that has happened to me as well when I'm really active I got sales. Plus I heard from another poshmark seller that it helps with the algorithms she said that if you share other people's closets when someone looks for specific thing and you have it it will be the first thing that shows up on their search but if you're not sharing other people's closets and it'll be the last thing that shows up on their search for that specific thing they were looking for or not show up at all
I did not know the community shares didn't bump the items up in the search. Very nice to know that!! I have also shared as a thank you, not to buyers, but to youtubers. 😄 It does nothing for me business wise, but it's a little thing I can do since their info is so helpful. I definitely need to self share more often! Some people say that community shares are important for the "algorithm" but I don't know how true that is (or if there if an algorithm even exists). 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I've wondered this! People refer to this algorithm, but I wonder if that's people who come from ebay where it's algorithm driven and not 1-click away from the top of search results. Hmm!
i think the Algorithm is real, only because when I became more self-centered and started self-sharing only my sales dropped dramatically. Self sharing worked for a short amount of time, but then my sales quickly but surely fell off, as if poshmark stopped showing my listings.
I think you need to do both to bring the traffic to your page, every item in your closet wont be something people are searching for in the search bar

The only stat keeping me from being a Posh Ambassador is Community Shares! I just don’t do them very often because like you mentioned, they’re pretty pointless. I think the only people scrolling the newsfeed are those who have just signed up for Posh and are trying to figure it all out/browse. Otherwise people just want a specific brand/style. Keyword optimization is super important!
I agreee! Honestly keyword optimization is something I know I should work on! The other day one of my friends downloaded Poshmark and the first thing she typed in was "shirts with bows". It reminded me how important keywords like "bows" are!

I totally agree self shares several times a day. I’ve been on Poshmark since March 2018. I also share items from people that but from me. I’m amazed at the consistent sales I get and attribute those sales to self sharing.

Great video. I used to do a ton of share groups and then stopped when I realized my items do better when I share them. Now I try to do some sharing of others that don't have as big of a following as I do to try to get them some more exposure and then vise versa for larger closets. I didn't think to do that targeted sharing for items that are listed higher than mine that is a great tip! I usually do that with just the sold listings :)

Love your videos! I did not know this about community shares. They emphasize the importance of it, but now I am questioning why and what purpose they serve. I do them on occasion just because I appreciate people sharing mine and use it to try and have people return to my closet, but I definitely won't use it as a strategy thinking it'll help get more shares throughout the day when I'm off the app now. This is very helpful! I didn't know that the community shares and self shares made such a difference! Another thing that has helped me for anyone reading in the comments, go to 'find new people' on your profile and go through the people who have 'just joined' and send them a warm welcome and encourage them! Pretty much all of my sales were made by those I personally reached out to. :)

So then why share other people’s items?
The whole idea of sharing seems ridiculous to me. If an item is good enough so people look for it, it does not need to be shared. if it's something that cannot be sold without sharing it a thousand times first, it's not something I want to sell

Fantastic video, but I respectfully diagrams with you about people shopping on the feed. I've been a seller for over 4 years & as a buyer I look at the feed all the type & have purchased TONS of items found on the feed. Out of curiosity sake I asked some other big time sellers that I am good friends with on Poshmark if they buy off the feed & they all said yes. Not a big deal at all but I wouldn't negate the power of the feed.
Thank you so much for explaining the why of why we should share our own items. I do share items from someone else's closet but not nearly as often as I used too. Sometimes a seller will share 10 items from my closet in that case I'll share some of their's. Great information

I just did a little testing with a friend. So let me get this straight in my head b/c it's after midnight and my brain is shutting down. Are you saying that it's important to share your own closet and other closets but it's more important to share your own? And further, if I don't share my items for three days, when someone else shares my item, it doesn't go to the top of their feed? WTH??? I found this to be true. You know I was skeptical when I first heard you talk about this because I think Posh, Mercari, eBay, Amazon, etc...are all using algorithms like Google does to control our every move. But you are so right about this. But in your own mind, what does it mean in the grand scheme of things? Is Posh just playing us b/c they promote community sharing like mad. I was talking to someone earlier about my eBay sales and views. Something is happening with eBay that I can't explain. Where I used to have hundreds of views on a particular product, I now get 2, 3, or 4 views in a week's time on the same product. Yet on Posh or Mercari, I get hundreds of views, and tons of likers, especially on Mercari. I had almost $500 in sales today on all three platforms, and none of them had neither rhyme nor reason...other than the fact that most of the items are highly sought after. One, however, has been sitting in my eBay store for months and I was just about to send it to ThreadUp. As always, your videos have a ton of substance. This one is, by far and hands down, the best so far and very professional. Now I won't be able to sleep thinking about my new sharing schedule.
