I package my item in a clear bag, then I wrap it in brown paper and twine and add a thank you tag and a wooden heart or leaf on the twine. Tie it in a bow and ship it in a polymailer or a box. I love for my buyers to feel like they are getting a lovely gift when they purchase something from my closet. I have 476 listings across 4 selling platforms, and I do this for every single item I sell. I hope they buyer appreciates the care I put into the packaging.

Wow! After watching this video, I feel like a real fool. I carefully package my sold items in clear sealed packaging. Where appropriate, I use tissue paper and I always include a handwritten thank you note and a thank you sticker attaching the note to the wrapped item. I package my sales the way I would want to receive a package; with care and appreciation. By the way, I have never received a Posh purchase I've made packaged with any care at all. Usually items are stuffed sloppily in a mailer sometimes with used tissue paper. I purchased a pair of fragile suede AGL shoes recently shipped to me in a poly mailer with one shoe stuffed in a dirty cloth grocery bag and one shoe on it's own. But I've received wonderful love notes from my buyers thanking me for my packaging and a few wrote me that if I had not packed their purchase in plastic the item would have been ruined in the rain. Thank you for another informative video. I always learn something valuable from you.

I prefer no note or gift, but I realllly dislike if I get something just in tissue or with nothing because I’m in a very humid and hot place. The BEST packages have no frills and my items inside in a clear plastic bag. I would much prefer a little sticker over more garbage but please please double wrap my item using even a reused inner plastic bag. Shoot even a grocery bag works. Tissue does nothing but also hold the humidity and colored tissue bleeds. I’ve had it ruin items I’ve received and I’ve also received countless boxes, poly bags ripped open and had my items been in a secondary bag they would have been saved.

If my purchases arrive intact, I don’t care about any of the extras. I find extra packaging wasteful. I reuse as much packaging as possible and have my fam and friends save all their packaging for me too. We should all be thinking about the environment, it’s what a lot of resellers preach, saving items from the landfill!

    • @jaclynscott4440

Yes!! I grab several boxes from work, and love it when I can get extras (packing paper, bubble wrap, the air bubbles! the “extras” I always complained about before). Saving these from landfills is always a bonus. They are free! I need to be more open about asking for boxes from family and friends!

I get most of my packaging extras like tissue paper, ribbon and etc. from the bins when I am shopping for other things. Just picked up a ribbon set that retailed for $20.00 at the bins, which cost me pennies. What a way to recycle!

I’ll take the time to write a note on any platform depending on several things.. if we made friends in chat, if they made a full price purchase over a certain higher dollar amount, if sales are slow and I have the time to be more grateful lol
    I loved this video!

  • @leoren2685

I usually add a quick note because I think it helps prevent returns or other issues-it puts a "face" on your sales and helps them see you as a human being who is working to make a living. It takes really 15 seconds to do and I use my stash of blank cards, thank you notes, and just plain tag cards (I'm too small to have a "brand"). I sometimes just write it at the bottom of a receipt. It's not fancy but I think it does prevent returns. Unless you are a boutique and trying to create a brand, I think excess wrapping and bows and trinkets are a huge waste of time and a waste of earth's resources.

I am actually glad that there was no Thank you note for those packages. I think there is too much pressure on new sellers to make the packages special. I put my items a clear poly bag with a thank you sticker. Goes in free USPS tyveck envelope, Region A box or Medium flat rate box. I repeat the same Thank you sticker on outside of box. Plain and simple. Out of the 3 thousand packages sent out, ONE person complained there was not a note. ONE. 😁💖

I think notes are a nice touch and more personal than a sticker. (Makes me smile everytime- It also helps to make Poshmark standout from the other platforms) It surprises me how so many people are almost offended at the thought of "wasteful" notes. A nice package and note helps the buying experience (to ME). I don't get offended by Christmas cards, why get upset over a Note? Also, companies give me freebies I don't want all the time. Be appreciative and pass it along if you don't want it.

I package all my items in protective plastic bag, attach a thank you sticker and put in Priority mailer. I include a small treat ie. Jelly Bellys, Haribo Gummies. I used to hand write thank you cards but when I started selling more volume, it became too time consuming. Lots of people comment on my “cute packaging” and treats. As a buyer I really appreciate receiving a package that’s been carefully wrapped. I know some people don’t like plastic packaging for environmental reasons but on many occasions I’ve had buyers comment how the plastic bag saved their item. Boxes get wet and torn. Tissue paper will not protect the item.

I love these videos. I'm a nerd for these things. I am sometimes inspired to use thank you cards that I have a surplus of but most of the time it's a clear polybag with a thank you sticker on it. I've never kept a free gift that anyone has added. I just give those to the kid. I don't personally care how people package it or whether they include notes as long as I get exactly what I bought and it's not damaged.

I’m a Posh seller, and have about 600 items in my closet. Used to include thank you notes, and wrap items in a few layers of tissue paper. I did that for a while until I realized how wasteful it can be! I’m someone who reuses ♻️ tissue paper..but I know lots of folks just toss it.
Also- I’ve found my ratings never improved or declined based on how much I dressed up the package. I think what always matters most is the item being accurately represented, how quick it’s shipped, and seller communication. Great video! These are always interesting experiments to watch!

I package my items in clear bags with a Thank You sticker. Then send in a priority box or polymailer. But recently, I received a 1 star rating because my package wasn't cute enough. She got a excellent pair of New Balance shoes. It really bummed me out. She said in my rating it was too plain with "just a thank you sticker, in a free box. And NO thank you note!" I did package in a plastic bag to keep them protected. I think you can't please everyone, so do it how you want. I personally don't want a note, it just contributes to waste.

I stress on the packaging so this helped, thank you. I use USPS boxes, I buy different patterned tissue paper from Dollar Tree and add a handwritten thank you note. For fall I added a cute scarecrow decoration. I really don’t care how my purchase is packaged as long as it’s as described.

  • @katherinechildress8095

When I started I wrapped it nicely in tissue and made a ty card for each, but as my closet and sales grew, I realized something had to give as it was time consuming and eats into your profits. I use a clear polymailer to put the item in, sealed woth a cute ty sticker. I use the polymailer inside the package for protection- I've had packages left in the rain, or damaged in transit. I only do a written ty card for higher item purchases.

Good comparison video. I can, however, see why all of my feedback states how nicely packaged my items are. I don't use anything expensive, but every item is crisply folded and 1 - has paper around it, folded nicely with a little thank you sticker, 2 - plastic / compostable bag, 3 - a thank you card, and 4 - the mail bag or thick brown kraft paper. I try to make it look like it would if you'd purchased it from a bougie boutique. Takes a minute or two more than just shoving in a postal satchel.

  • @brendamyers5995

I used to do personal thank you cards but as I'm just over 1300 total listibgs, now I use 2 stickers one on the inside that's says "I appreciate your business, if you have a moment, please leave me a review, it would be greatly appreciated!" And then the sticker on the outside of the packaging says "Thank-you for supporting my small business!" And then all my items go in a clear poly bag first, and a pink poly mailer if clothes, or a box if shoes or a big bundle. As my store got bigger I realized how to save time by thanking my buyers with the stickers that were already designed and typed out rather than writing a thank-you card for every sale. This is what I do and so far I've gotten a lot of good reviews on my shipping and pachaging.. I also hate my handwriting. Also I sell on ebay and tradesy and I think the stickers are more professional for those sale. Thank you for doing this little study, it's very informative and super awesome 👌 💖

Great video because I am a over-packager. I do am not doing Poshmark yet but ebay, Amazon and others. If its clothing it goes in a polybag to protect from if things get damp. I do not include thank you notes but really like those bags you have. I do include some sort of Invoice tho and sign it thank you. I believe much of receiving a package is about the experience. I almost always put fragile stickers on everything because they are cheap and dress up. I know when I get a package if its in some cheap thing someone threw together you will probably not get my vote. The one thing you will see when I have reviews is packaged extremely well and super fast shipping.

As soon as I list an item it goes into a polybag for the sake of inventory/storage and due to the fact I have dogs and don't want dog hair getting on my listed items. Everything I sale gets mailed out in the polybags with one Thank You sticker attached. I have my PM settings set to print the packing slip with the mailing label. I will write a simple "Thank you" and include the buyer's first name on the packing slip in lieu of a more traditional Thank you Note. (The packing slip also includes my inventory # and has a small picture of the item, so it helps with keeping my shipping straight-especially if my husband is helping!)

  • @brendamyers5995

Quick question... y does there have to be a personal note? I think that stickers or the poly mailer that says thank you, I appreciate you, you made my day, I hope this makes your day" (like the 1000 listing seller had) is just fine. When you have a huge amount of inventory and sell on multiple platforms, in my opinion it's more professional looking to put it is a protective bag then a polymailer with a sticker or printed thank-you poly mailer or card that reads that same for all your buyers... this was interesting to. Thanks again.

Thanks Amber for the interesting comparison video. I’ve been selling online for a couple of years now, and I try to maintain 500 items on multiple platforms. You’re spot-on comparing newer, small closet sellers to larger, longer-seller closets. In my experience, there was a maturation process where I settled into a more efficient, quality-minded routine. Early on I included written thank you notes with every sale, but as I focused on improved quality and consistency in my processes I began to doubt the value of the notes. Now I communicate with buyers on the apps after a sale, thanking them and letting them know the item is on the way, and I frequently get happy responses from buyers, which is very rewarding. I use cellophane or poly bags to inventory and store items and usually decorative poly shipping bags with a thank you message, and adhesive Rollo-printed shipping labels. I will fold in a sheet of tissue paper to the back of a lightweight blouse, etc., before crisply folding, which adds support so the item is less likely to bunch up in storage or shipping bags. I consistently get comments about great communication, packaging, and quick shipping. I may add a thank you sticker to my routine. It is interesting to learn how other resellers do things as we learn so much from one another!

Love this video concept. It's definitely helpful to see what other sellers are doing. I use tissue paper with a thank you sticker. I'm a pretty eco conscious person so I really hate putting items in a clear plastic bag. However, if I receive one I will definitely reuse it! I've stated in my seller bio that I will reuse packaging as long as the condition is good.

I always love these! My shipping is inside a clear bag from inventory, then a cute poly. If shoes I reuse a box or use a free box. I mostly use medium flat rates. I save my shoe boxes and padded flat rates for eBay😅 I like using a clear bag because I feel like the item has extra protection! Have fun in Spain!:)

Well a seller with less than 100 listings does not always have back packing, I am new with not too many listing , but my packing is excellent, I know some ambassador sellers that pack jewelry in a food container and no one complaining! It depends on the seller, no matter how many items are listed!

I used to have a bunch of butterfly paper hole punches, and would use old catalogs and make butterfly confetti to throw in my bag. I roll up most of my items in tissue paper and secure with a thank you sticker, and I had a cute quote card that I created printed up with my closet name that I throw in. Way back when I started, I gifted essential oil samples with a business card for that. I don't do the confetti or EO samples any more. A lot of people liked my packaging, but there were a few who HATED the confetti 🤷🏻‍♀️ Every once in awhile I don't wrap up an item (if it is really bulky, and I am just trying to get it to fit in the packaging). I personally don't like getting stuff in plastic, and I have had people request that I don't ship in plastic. I have bought cute poly mailers, but I only really use them when I am running low on free USPS mail supplies.

I just received an item that was in perfect condition. However, they mailed it (a faux leather biker jacket) in a priority envelope that was too small and it was bulging. Upon opening, I could see that the adhesive from the seal stuck to the jacket due to it being too small and sadly took some of the faux leather with it when I opened it. It's just a small hole in the top layer, but will try and have fixed because the price of the jacket was so good. I gave a 5 star rating because except for that challenge the item was perfect...I figured it was not intentional and was fast shipping, but just messaged them suggesting a box for larger items in the future. You never want to "stuff" an item in an envelope making it look like a throw pillow.

As long as your item is awesome and is sent in good time and packaged great then A+++Stores don't send thank you notes with your purchase! lol Keep up the great work!! Love!!

I put my items in Spartan Industries clear clothing envelopes with a round thank you sticker on top and the item ID sticker (which I print out with the label) on the back so the item is protected no matter what and looks professional. I never put anything in a bag without doing this. Especially used clothes, I want someone to feel they are still getting something I care about. I get a lot of love notes that mention my professional and safe packing. If something is larger and won't fit into a Spartan bag, I use tissue in a box but I don't prefer it. Even bundles, items are individually packed in Spartan clear bags.

it's always a nice touch to go the extra mile. But then buyers don't even bother to pay when received or rate. So it's understandable if sellers only do what's necessary. These days, you're lucky if sellers even bother to ship what you purchased...

Of course no one wants to receive an item that has unexpected flaws or is otherwise damaged. That issue, in fact, would probably be more pertinent in a discussion about the importance of describing items accurately rather than in one about packaging.
To those who believe thank-you notes & small gestures are irrelevant (or "wasteful"), let's say you stay in two hotels-both are identical & both delivered the kind of rooms they promised they would
But one of the hotels puts a signed thank-you note & an attractive piece of candy on your pillow. If polled about preferences, which hotel do you think the majority of visitors would say they prefer?
(Another way of looking at this: How can a normal customer be inspired to remember one similar hotel over another similar hotel?)
Perhaps the issue is simple. Perhaps it comes down to doing a little bit more than other sellers to make your customers feel welcome & appreciated.
P.S. To the inevitable person who says, "I hate candy!," or "I hate gifts!," I would say the key word is "majority." What would the "majority" of customers enjoy?

I'm really surprised you didn't get a note, although the poly bags counted as one technically. I have my items in clear bags, not tissue paper, but I do include a thank you note, just hand written on any paper I have collected. It's cheaper than buying stickers for me. I know the note goes into the garbage, but I'm sure the sticker does too.
