Here's a Red Hook story from someone who lives here. An elderly man fell while taking a walk in the village. Three people helped him get up and asked if he needed an ambulance or a ride home. He wasn't hurt so he thanked them and started to go home. Very soon, a Red Hook Police car pulled up and the officer asked if the man was okay and did he want a ride? The man said no thank you and continued on his way. Pretty soon a NYS Trooper pulled up and asked the same question. The man refused again and continued to head home. Then the Rescue Squad vehicle from the Volunteer Fire Company pulled up and asked if he needed a ride and was he okay? THIS is the kind of town that Red Hook is---filled with caring people who love this town and want to help one another. Dan Budd, the guy in the pickup truck, organized a group called "Red Hook Responds" during Covid, and they offered to pick up groceries or prescriptions for elderly people who couldn't go out. Just one example of the kind of civic-minded people who live here. This is small-town living at its best.
