When it comes to fighting hair loss, we're all looking for a low-cost, low-risk, high-reward treatment. At first glance, Nizoral® shampoo (ketoconazole) appears to fit this option...
But the truth is that Nizoral® works way better for some than for others. And fascinatingly, there seems to be a set of scalp conditions that correlate with hair loss... and if you have these conditions, you can often tell if you'll be a great (or terrible) responder to the shampoo.
This video dives into the science! Here are the time stamps:

Can Ketaconazole make hair loss worse if people who aren’t a good candidate use it?
889
It’s crazy how we still don’t have a cure for hair loss
It’s epigeneitc.
That science is new.
But it’s all about your environment and exposures triggering your genetic predisposition
I'm sure there is, but there's way to much money to gain in the hair loss department regarding rogain and monoxidile and others
@@richeyrich2203 can you elaborate more?
@@richeyrich2203 you bring up a good point. Some races don’t have hair loss to the extent that others do and just like the difference between these races, a lot of it has to do with exposure to their environment over generations
We do. It's money lol

The time I faced hair fall, I followed all these to effectively control it:
Incorporate hot oil scalp massages into your routine.
Do not use hot water when rinsing your hair.
Protect your hair from too much sweat.
Use a wide tooth neem wood comb to detangle wet hair.
Decrease your sugar and unhealthy food consumption.
Use natural anti hair fall shampoo and hair oil like Littleeextra coccconion.
Maintain a positive mindset for general well being.

Great info packed into a perfect length video. Thanks!
Your insight and detail are very impressive.
Thanks! Very informative, once again
Can’t wait for the video on the autoimmune conditions, as I tried an epigenetic test and it suggested this may come from the gut (and to avoid certain foods, as well as checking on parasites).
Doctor even said when people come complaining about skin or hair, it’s usually something about the gut (since english is not my 1st language, hope I explained it all correctly…)
This is a fantastic video. So well explained. Thank you. I am now a subscriber.
This was very detailed oriented and insightful. Thank you so much!
I have really enjoyed your video, great content and everything is thoroughly explained
You can clearly see at 6:48 that it says the 1% Ketoconazole increased hair shaft thickness and decreased shedding, also increased active anagen hair despite not increasing density.
Good eye.
@@BryanSMuddagree
It clearly says “ At the end, hair density was unchanged, although hair shredding was decreased…..”
Yes, it says the 1% KTZ increased mean shaft diameter 5.4%. And then repeats this in summary in yellow highlight.
Great information! I will gibe it a try, since I notice some redness ocasionally and my scalp is very sensitive to sunlight...I would love to hear more about the approach for autoinmunity issues. Thanks a lot
Thank you for this very well made video!:) I will start trying this product out
Good video, I came up to the same limited studies upon my search. Also the same conclusion as its cheap and falls under the why not category, plus even if you don´t have excessive or visual signs that you need it, in some studies the related the MPB to some micros. The question tho remains, how to use it ! The frequency suggested on the bottle is for treatment of fungus and other infections as mentioned. It also says it should be used at that frequency in the beginning and for a limited time only. (the frequency should drop to once a week after the treatment if my memory serves) Thus if you have any input on how often to use it, that would be really helpful! .
Thank you so much for this! IT's so informative!
Nizoral is great for your scalp, but rough on your hair. Wish they had a conditioning formula.
Informative, thanks!
Nizoral works like magic. Whenever my scalp is itchy or dry it works like a charm and all the residue just washes out. I've only used it twice this year but it was good.
stress , junk food , lack of sleeps , hormonal imbalances are the biggest factors for hair falls. I am trying to address each issues -by more breathing , meditation, exercise , herbs , monoxidil, etc.
Masturbating too

I tried the 2% ketoconazole shampoo, and it worked right away. It's amazing. For over 10 years, I thought I had autoimmune eczema or psoriasis, but it turns out I actually had seborrheic dermatitis caused by Malassezia fungi. Thank you so much.
How do we know if we have scalp inflammation, (I don’t have dandruff) and this suitable for us? Thanks for the video.

I use Nizoral 2% daily ( about 1 ml a day) since 5 weeks yet still have itchy scalp everyday. 4X a week didn't work either. 4% Tea tree oil gives me a good relief for about 8 hours. Thanks for the great content ❤👌
I can't speak for anyone else obviosuly, but for me, this shampoo was a godsend to help reduce itching and side effects of minoxidil.
Informative, articulate and very helpful. Thanks for uploading this. Will be trying ketoconazole 2% shampoo starting today.
Awesome! I hope it helps you out.
How’s it working out for you?

Rob, what was the antimicrobial regimen used to generate those very nice results?
Hi.
I was just prescribed this 2% shampoo for Seborrheic Dermatitis. I was hesitant to use it. Reason being possible hair loss as a side affect.😮
I realize now that hair loss is the beginning of entering the growth phase of using hair growth products. I am a 61 year old woman. I have received great results from using 50mg of Spironolactone along with 6mg (1/2 tablet) of oral minoxidil once a day. I did not want to lose the growth required during this last year. Amazing growth!
I feel much more comfy with using this shampoo after
enjoying your informative video.
Thank you!
Yeah, I would start off using it one or two times a week and make sure you leave it on your head at least 5 to 7 minutes or so.
Can you do an autoimmunity hair loss video. Very interested! Love your videos!
I’ve suffered from tinea versicolor for several years which is an over growth of fungus on the skin. Could this make me a good candidate for this shampoo?
Hi, great content! May I ask what if it’s only symptoms of excess sebum and heavy hair shedding? Would this still be a good candidate?
What if I only have dandruff and a bit of itching? Would it be beneficial to use this shampoo maybe only once or twice a week to treat hair loss? Since my microbial problem seems to be less severe...🤔
Perfect video👍👌👏thank you
Thanks for your video, I was thinking of using the shampoo.
Perfect Hair Health hello...
Does it matter if we buy nizoral or another generic? No nizoral in my country! We have something similar which contains ketoconazol 2%!!
Thanks
Hei rob. I am using GT kit shampoo prescribed by a dermatologist which is also a 2% ketocanazole. Can I replace with nizoral 2% ketocanazole?
Nizoral shampoo got me rid of my 15 years inflamed scalp problem in a week.
Cant believe my doctors and dermatologist did not suggest me to try that and that a random video on the internet fixed the problem...
Indeed. Mine was 30 years of dandruff. Spend so much on treatment and dozen of new shampoo.
Nizoral amazing cleared all mine in 2 weeks. No hair loss.
There’s a need to promote this product to help those with serious scalp problems.
my scalp seems find i do however seem to have dermnatitis on my face tho. forehead, eyebrow, mustache. i might try this
Wow,l heard this shampoo was meant to be good for hairloss, but after reading the comments think l will leave well alone..My hair is quite fine,no dandruff, just thought l could stimulate growth but this appears the opposite. Will leave well alone.Great video though.
Very informative video!
Can you do a review on selsun blue? im not sure which one is more suitable for me
Hey Rob! I have a question. I have been using ketoconozol cream. Should I wash my hair before using minoxidil. Does this cream effect the working performance of minoxidil?
Minoxidil has to be continued to keep hair. If stopped hair falls. Have you tried rosemary? Research it.
What shampoo additionally to Nizoral is recommended? Nizoral 1 to 4 times, what about the other times?
rob youve got such a great head of hair
Hi rob, until when u Will use the nizoral? Thanks 😊
Great review Rob on the Nizoral shampoo! I have a lot of skin flaking because of the daily use of minoxidil!
Thanks! Have you tried a conditioner to see if that improves things? Or perhaps switching to a minoxidil brand that doesn't contain propylene glycol? There are a lot of minoxidil products formulated for sensitive scalps, and perhaps that might help reduce the dandruff.
@@PerfectHairHealth At first I used the minoxidil foam from Keeps but now I'm going to be using Rogaine permanently. Usually, I just use a hair brush in the shower to clean the residue off with some shampoo. I like to remove all the debris on the scalp too so that the LLLT lights can penetrate the scalp better.
@@illimattic That's not skin flaking nor dandruff. You are just scraping off the dry propylene glycol. If you switch to a prop glycol free minoxidil, you will see a drastic reduction in the said flakes.
@@skillzset1066 where do you get minoxidil without that ingredient from?
@@illimattic Depending on where you live. Just google propylene glycol free minoxidil....
Hello(first sorry for my bad english)!
I follow your videos with interest, thanks for the detailed information.
I am 32 years old and I had a hair transplant two months ago, but now my dandruff got worse :((
Аfter the transplant, I bathe with a mild baby shampoo.. but i'm afraid of dandruff
I don't want to damage the grafts but also I want a clean scalp...
I `m very worried, because the transplant was quite difficult for me..12 hours..antibiotics, corticosteroids, painkiller, 15 days of sleeping sitting up..I tried very very hard to make sure everything was right..
I'm worried that this won't be a problem for the final result
Аnd whether this shampoo is not too aggressive for a condition after hair transplantation???
I would be very grateful for a response from you.
Thank you.
Ketoconazole in addition to being an anti-fungal is also an anti-androgen which may also explain some of it's hair restorative effects.
He mentioned in the video at 6:00 but says its debated whether ketoconazole is actually blocking DHT or not
@@bashscrazy Haha you're right he sure did. Not sure how I missed that part. Thanks
@@bashscrazy It doesnt block DHT
@@iDTecKtit’s debatable. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. How can you be so sure it doesn’t?
@lexwolf303 lol because it's anti fungal and it can help that way, ie hair growth due to a scalp issue, don't you think the company would know if it helped with hairloss and DHT levels?
Is 2% cream same as 20mg/ml shampoo? Which one should I get?
Could you please link the sources mentioned in the video?
I can recommend it if you have dandruff. I had hair transplant last year. My dandruff stopped and I have less hairloss since I used it.
Awesome video
Hi rob, how often should i be using this shampoo? i’ve seen many people in the comments claim that it dries their scalp and in turn causes hair to fall out in patches.
Use it once a week and see how your hair feels, if it gets dry use a silicone free mineral oil free conditioner with a few drops of almond oil, use other shampoo that is sls free no sulfates so you can alternate between washes. Rosemary essential oil on scalp promotes hair growth
1-3 x a week
hi i wonder about daily hair shampoo cause hair loss ?
Extremely informative. It seems like I’m a good candidate. Have scalp itching and scalp flaking with dandruff. Diagnosed with pattern hair loss at just 17 ! I turned 18 last week and I’m on fin and minoxidil. Nizoral should be a great addition. Thanks for this amazing video.

Hey Rob! I use only one time keto shampoo, other days wash only water, do you think is this correct, or I use shampoo another days too
I would try to follow the usage frequencies presented in the studies (2-4 times weekly for the first couple of months, with reductions thereafter).
Hi there thank you for all the information, but can you please give us some information and ways for hair loss in female ? Specifically the androgenic type please !!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻
can I mix two shampoos and using them at once on my skalp? Lets say mix alpecin coffein shampoo with nizoral in my palm of the hand and apply?
Does it need to be the nizoral brand or will any 2% ketoconazole shampoo work?
I believe the #1 cause of hair loss is stress. Stress causes chaos on our hormones, etc.. male and female.. Low stress equals happy life and happy full head of hair.
wow super information, thank you so much Rob!
Canadian here, 2% Nizoral are Over-the-Counter here, but Finestride isn't a OTC here. Nizoral absolutely helped me with my dandruff and itching scalp, so now my scalp is less scarred.
What happens if you stop using it? Just wondering
@@randomfellow1483 Well, there hasn't been any noted effect. However, I do see the dandruff & itching showing up in winters. I only use it on a bi-weekly basis in Winters and that seems to work for me. Initially, I had started by using it twice per week and had to use it like that for lets say a month. Since then I've shifted to bi-weekly in winters and hardly ever during rest of the year.
I have the typical symptoms you mention: seborrheic dermatitis, inflammation, burning sensation of the scalp if I don't shampoo for even 1 day and accompanied by alopecia. I've been using zinc pyrithione shampoos with no improvement. Using a hard water filter for my shower did help in reducing hair loss. I'm yet to try ketoconazole shampoos basically because of side effect concerns. Does it increase hypertension and reduce male hormones?
@Fabian Kirchgessner Are you using Nizoral? Have you used Revita shampoo?
What is the name?
Hey dude, trying to help you a little bit. First thank you for the hard water filter idea, I think I‘ll gonna try this, because I have similiar symptoms. So yes, for me the keto shampoo helped a lot, if you first got it you have to take it the first 5 days (everyday) afterwards you go with 2-3 per week and you are good. Maybe it will dry out your hair a little bit, but you can use conditioner or something. But it will cure your flare ups and your scalp will be less itchy. And dude, I shaved my head and if your head shape isn‘t that bad, I will recommend it to you, the inflammation is basically gone, I think I noticed a little regrowth on my temples since I shaved my had to 1cm but can say that much, because it‘s only 4 months ago. Also thinking about to take topical finasterid, but not sure right now if the risk is worth it, but the risk is lower as with oral finasterid. And by the way, I had no sides with keto, only if you use it to often your scalp can get to dry and itchy, but normally it‘s not happening. And unfortunately I stopped using keto shampoo in the summer, because apple cider vinegar helped me a lot, didn‘t take it for 4 months and boy wow my hair loss got so worse, like I‘ve lost so much hair wow, I regret that I stopped taking it without any good reason, that‘s why I now have to consider taking something else, so dumb, such a shame.

Hi Rob, would you recommend Nizoral 2% for someone like me who does not have any symptoms of pathogenic microorganism growth on their scalp but wants to use it as an adjunct to finasteride?
Do you think Nizoral has any mild anti-DHT properties which could "boost" finasteride in a way?
Thank you.
ketoconazol is a 5 alpha reductase inhibiter. this is the enzym that converts testerone to dht. so it basicly helps against dht buildup in your hair follicles. so yes it helps
@@axlrose2335 it is not a 5ar inhibitor. Keto binds to the same spot where dht binds to the hair follicle. But it does not stop the conversion from testosterone to dht.

Hi Rob,
I have seborhic dermatitis. Here in Germany you should take nizorol for only 6 month and then you should take a break.
What you think about ray peat diet?
I fixed my dandruff by using the Acure brand shampoo and conditioner. The ultra hydrating option (yellow/white bottle). Method is to shampoo twice on shampoo day and then condition. After that only condition the next couple days or so and then every 2-3 days shampoo twice back to back and condition. The second time you shampoo after you already shampoo'd helps to thoroughly clean the scalp.
How often should I shampoo?
In my country you can get 4% KTZ hair washing cream. No prescription needed. DO you think more KTZ, like 4% is better? Is there any study for more %. Thanks
is there any negatives to killing all the organisms on the scalp tho?
So, what if the dandruff or hair loss is autoimmune related?? What should i do then??
Thanks for the video, and all your videos. 2% Nizoral is the common form available in Canada and the UK; I usually buy in bulk when I'm over in England on business. I have used Nizoral extensively but don't believe it's the mechanisms you describe here. Rather I think it is localized impact on T, which obviously impacts the transition to DHT (but nothing to do with 5@Reductase).
Should it be used every day?

What do you think about a shampoo with biotin, taurine and salicylic acid ? What about taurine ?
Just take taurine as a supplement. Taking things systemically will probably always have a better effect than topicals. Don’t take more than 1000mg a day though and consult your doctor before starting
What happens to ur hair gains if u stop using the shampoo
i dont waste Nizoral durring the hair wash but waterdown few grams in water and use it as topical for 30 min and the i wash with some other shampoo . This way i save money from every drop of nizoral and get the maximum of it in terms of time on the scalp.
Enjoyed.

Hey man, thank you for your work. Was wondering if wearing a gaming headset 12 hours a day can contribute negatively? Because you mentioned in an interview with Paul Saladino that someone wearing socks high up everyday had less hair growth where the socks had been.
It's a great question. As long as the headset is adjusted regularly and not pressing too hard against the scalp, I can't imagine this being too problematic. However, you will see pressure alopecia occur in people who wear high socks (like you mentioned) or in people who wear glasses constantly (along the sides of the scalp). So if you're gaming hard, it is technically possible.
