Love the statement "intuitive eating is not for everyone right out of the gates." I would LOVE to eat intuitively, but the fact is, I am not currently "in tune" with my body. I don't get normal hunger cues so I have to eat when the clock tells me to. I also have a hard time discerning the difference between physical fullness and hunger with emotional fullness and hunger. I hope to eat intuitively eventually, but for now, following a meal plan made by my dietician is keeping me healthy, happy, and energetic!
Thank you so much for this discussion! 💗 Great talk. 👍

I think one thing I'm fed up with in the fitness community is influencers selling programmes that promise that you will look like them when, in reality, so much of the way our bodies burn calories or store fat or build muscle is down to genetics. There needs to be more emphasis placed on being our happiest and healthiest selves instead of trying to get the body shape that is trendy this season. "Healthy" truly does look different on everyone and this realisation has allowed me to actually be proud of the body I have.
Great video as always, Abbey :)

If you've been a fat person your whole life....When you finally figure out how to lose weight, and you see it finally coming off, you do not want to do it "gently" or "intuitively". You want the weight gone yesterday. That's why the temptation to over-restrict is so dangerous. The only ONLY thing that stops me from eating 1100 a day is knowing the health risks.

I first embraced body positivity because I was born with deformities, have many many large surgical scars and some parts of my body that don’t work well and are Visibly not right. I am heavy but a small fat. I have been told I can’t be body positive because it’s not for me. And since I enjoy working out and want to control my weight I am not body positive. But I have no shame in my body and showing it off. I also want to take care of my body and not abuse it by refusing to feed 8t properly.

@@elvesnspells7774 Evil people will use a statement, a movement, etc to use as a shield to be able to use it to shame, hurt, etc other people. Think about organized religion and cults, they have phrases like "Only God can judge us. " But quick to judge someone else because they don't like, or agree with someone else's lifestyle or views, etc. Drawing a blank on other phrases, but you get the point. Don't listen to the haters/evil people who use Body Positive to shame or belittle you, you have every right to be positive about your body 🖤
Also, quick note because I know someone is gonna get all butt hurt, I do not hate/or think everyone who believes in God, etc is bad or is like what I mentioned above. I do dislike organized religion and cults as a whole, because I do believe most are toxic and brain wash people. Obese to Beast and Abbey Sharp! This is so cool! 🤩
I started intuitive eating two months ago (thank you so much, Abbey! ☺️), and haven't looked back!
I don't need to finish the bottle of soda or package of cookies anymore. I can feel fullness and stop. Now, I crave veggies, whole grains and fruit.
I feel zero guilt, and therefore derive deep satisfaction, from a couple of homemade chocolate chip cookies, a milkshake or a glass of cola and a bowl of chips.
Intuitive eating has diffused all the tension and self loathing I used to feel around food. It really does feel healing.

@@paigedavis7191 Abbey has a whole series of videos about intuitive eating which talks about the specifics of what intuitive eating is. It goes into why we 'overeat' certain foods, and what to do about it. It's not as simple as just 'I want to eat m&ms all day every day so I get to', we also have to honour our body's need for adequate nutrition, but we also need to allow ourselves to enjoy all foods (even "junk food") in moderation . But her videos go into more detail :) I hope it helps.

I think this is a wonderfully nuanced conversation that seeks clarity and understanding. I also noticed that this inadvertently became a conversation about how men and women deconstruct diet culture differently. The concept of "guilt" when it comes to dieting, is notoriously marketed to women. Whereas precise control over their food and workouts is marketed to men when it comes to weight loss. Both are doing a wonderful job at helping people live healthier lifestyles without the psychological exhaustion that often comes with it. Bravo 👏

I'm super excited about this duo! I watch both of your channels and I'm all for intuitive eating. Interested to hear his thoughts and your opinion on them. I can see how he might not be for intuitive eating due to his experience being a larger person. It's easier for some people to be slim and stay that way whereas maybe for others they need something more disciplined depending on their journey.

Great video! So informative and enlightening. I definitely agree that it's hard to mindfully/intuitively eat with liquid calories. Would love a video suggesting ways to wean off of sugary drinks since I personally can't stand sugar alternatives. They are like a sugar overload experience with every sip even if they are low/zero grams of sugar.

Abbey, I have to tell you that your videos have had such a profound influence on my life and I am so grateful to you! I am in the process of reading Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch and I am so indebted to you for recommending it. Not only is this something that has had such a positive impact on my life, but also on the lives of my husband and two children. We adore your cookbook and have learned to celebrate food and all the ways it enriches our lives. Thank you! Thank you!
One thing that I would ask is if it would be possible for you to eliminate the drumbeat playing in the background of your videos. I have no idea why but it is SO distracting to me.
Such a small, stupid thing but I wanted to mention it because I adore your content.

I haven't watched any of ObesetoBeast's content before, but I just want to say I really appreciate you bringing on a CZcamsr who struggled with weight loss in the past and has since found a sustainable lifestyle that works for them. Cause in my experience, it's definitely not easy to find influencers who create content about/relating to weight loss that promotes sustainable tools and habits without the diet culture undertones. And I'd love to see you bring on Wendy and Jess from the Food Heaven Podcast for a future episode of Fed Up. I haven't really scrolled through their IG much, but I think they have some really good content on their podcast.

Would love to see an interview with someone that you believe to be a positive influence in the fitness space (maybe Krissy Cela or Whitney Simmons). I think it goes a long way for people to see that fitness isn’t always hard core and there are quite literally TONS of women in the fitness industry that are promoting eating enough, moving your body, and loving your body for what it is in any given moment. Not every fitness IG is about starving yourself…. LOVED this video and I’m excited for this series

Because grew up with food allergies, l always made a connection between what I ate and how I felt. Fast food gives me a scratchy throat and a runny nose. Eating too little makes me feel hangry/nauseous. Eating too much sugar gives me a headache and a general 'ick' feeling. I still occasionally eat fast food and sweets, but i'd call my intake moderate. I kind of lucked into intuitive eating--or, at least, into my understanding of what it is. I started watching John to gain insight into what my boyfriend, who is overweight, experiences. I started watching Abbey for insight into nutrition and info on sustainable eating. Boyfriend wanted to make a change, so I've been able to support him as positively as I can.
