  • The Wayne Williams trial in 1982 was a different world. There were no cameras in the courtroom. Now, our I-Team has been given exclusive access to the trial evidence and for the first time you can see what the jury saw.
    Williams was convicted of killing two adults in 1982 and sentenced to two life terms in prison. Following William’s conviction, police cleared an additional 22 murder cases involving mostly child and teenage victims. Police connected the additional murders to Williams through the same fiber evidence seen during his trial, eyewitnesses, or strong similarities to the other cases.
    Our FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell is in a unique position to reexamine these cases. He covered the trial of Wayne Williams in 1982. In this FOX 5 I-Team special, he revisits the trial, examining the courtroom evidence, speaking with key lawyers, investigators, forensic experts, and three of the surviving jurors who provide fascinating insight into what they saw in the courtroom and why they found Wayne Williams guilty of murder.
    And, Dale shares a dramatic moment with the mother of one child murder victim who tells him, after hearing all the evidence, that she finally has closure.

      Far too many people just don't want to believe he did it because of the colour of his skin which is an incredibly stupid way of judging the likelihood of him being a murderer. I'm sure most reasonable people would have preferred it to have been the KKK, a group everyone already knew was evil, but virtually everything points at Williams and always has.

      @@DaleRussellFox5 I think you mean the trial told the story that was most palatable and convenient. I am sure your research led you to Jamie Brooks, Tom Terrell, Larry Marshall, "Wyatt Earp", Tom Wilcoxen, the Sanders Brothers, Mike Thevis and the City of Atlanta government, the connections to Capn Pegs and The Challenge School. "Amazingly misunderstood" is a generous journalistic stroke of the pen. WW is guilty, yes but this is a far more sinister case than of just one man.

    If you go into the literature, it's very, very obvious Wayne was directly involved in several murders. And those victims share details with others, suggesting Wayne was also involved with those. I don't know if he killed all of them, but he sure as hell killed many.

    • @rucianapollard7098
      @rucianapollard7098 Před rokem +27

      I have seen many, MANY comments of people saying that Wayne didn't kill ALL of the children, but he killed some!! And I always ask, "which ones do you think Wayne committed and WHY?"" And if Wayne didn't do all of them, then who did the rest?? The Atlanta Murders were not committed by one person or even two or three, because not all of the murders were connected!! The official Task Force list was very arbitrary as to who made the list, and why?? It started off with young kids, 8,9, 10. Then teenagers are added to the list, then finally, adults. The two adults are who Wayne was tried and convicted. Why the age progression?? What does 9, 10 year old kids have to do with adult convicted felons?? The 2 girls should never have been placed on the List, because their cases had nothing to do with the rest! The Task Force list was formed by police commissioner Lee Brown, as a direct result of the pressure put on him by several of the victims' mothers. The mothers had formed an organization, "STOP Prevent Child Murders". They were very vocal about the murders and they were interviewed often by the local news. Sometimes, a victim was placed on the List, because the mother went to the press and complained, and demanded their child be placed on the List, so unfortunately, the List was almost useless. Some of the victims were involved in street crimes, like selling drugs, etc., then, the FBI believed that one, possibly two of the victims were killed by relatives. Then there were several that did seem to be connected. Those victims were seen at the homes of, or in the presence of known gay pedophiles. Witnesses came forward and told police that they and some of the victims, had been paid to take nude pictures, and have sex acts done to them by the pedophiles! The police discovered a pedophile ring operating in the area of Atlanta where children went missing and were found dead. For some reason, the police did not pursue those leads, and never really investigated the pornography ring, despite several of the victims were involved in homosexual behavior with pedophiles. Several of these youngsters knew each other, and one victim, 16 year old Patrick Rogers knew close to 15 victims on the list!!! Another problem with the List are the murdered kids that weren't added because their parents were not vocal about the murders. Some of the victims NOT added, knew a lot of the kids that WERE added!! There were connections all over the place with these killings, with suspects and witnesses and the police failed miserable! The majority of the victims on the List were connected because they knew each other or they shared something in common, like living in the same apartment complex, or attending the same school, or playing basketball at the same community centers. When looking at the wealth of information the police and the Task Force had, it makes no sense why several suspects weren't taken into custody for murder, or at the very least, sex with a minor!!! I really don't think the police wanted to solve the murders, because it was the tip of the iceberg of what was going on in Atlanta at that time.
      And as far as Wayne Williams is concerned, I think he was a child pornographer who knew some of the victims and their killers. He took nude pictures of boys then passed them along to pedophiles "clients" to choose a boy that they wanted! Wayne was involved, but not as a killer.

      @mrtn123 I can't remember if I responded to your message about the Atlanta Murders. I was too young to remember the actual murders but I was 9 when the Atlanta Child Murders movie came on TV, and I was terrified! I started reading and researching the cases about 10 years ago. Through my research, I learned that there was a gross miscarriage of justice in these cases!! It is evident, or should have been, that more than one killer was operating in Atlanta during the height of the murders! Some of the victims were involved in street crimes, and some were involved in a child pedophile ring. Several of the victims knew each other. There were several suspects who had been seen with victims, and for some reason, the police didn't pursue those leads. Wayne Williams is not a killer, but he definitely knew what was going on in Atlanta. With the research I've done, I really believe that Wayne was a child pornographer who took nude pictures of boys and teenagers and passed them around the gay pedophile ring. A "customer" could choose a boy, and Wayne could deliver the kid to the customer. I think he knew several of the victims and their killers, and he may have disposed of some of the bodies.

      The problem really was the fault of law enforcement, because during the 70s and 80s, they dismissed a lot of youngsters as "runaways". It is true that some kids did leave home on their own, and a lot of them hitchhiked across the country, but so many kids were kidnapped and found murdered. I grew up in the 80s and I remember that pictures of missing kids were on boxes of milk. Camille Bell was that you never seen her sad or crying or despondent about her child or any of the others. She was always angry and critical. I know everyone weeps differently but I suspect she not only had an idea of who may have killed her son but her public demeanor was a way to mask her regret or parenting decision. And she LOVED the limelight. The trips, the cameras and interviews, THE MONEY. When watched as a whole, a lot of her public presentation seemed to be more about identifying her as THE mother of the slain children. She did not want to concede the narrative to any other community leader. For example, there is TV clips from a townhall meeting just after the Bowen Homes tragedy. Camille Bell is seated on the front row as different citizens shared their opinions. The camera cuts to her as a "very urban" peer is trying to express themselves. She doesn't agree with the approach so she rolls her eyes and then interrupts by offering some passing support and then dismissing herself in a hurry. I believe Yusuf was killed by an acquaintance of his father. The MO of stranger danger passing by and saying "hey lil boy do you wanna make some money" doesn't apply here as he was running an errand already to make a lil change. His body was not dumped but rather hidden as to have not been found and then strangely found by a school janitor. A school janitor and family friend also identified his body. He was found in a school. There was a witness who saw the father with Yusuf, etc. The one string of information that MAY point to Yusuf being killed by one of the child murderers is that a witness came forward after the Timothy Hill killing to say that he and Hill would go to the Salvation Army to steal things because they knew the security guard, Larry Marshall. Marshall would lead them to the back of the store where they would be sodomized by waiting men. This little boy said he also knew Yusuf. Birds of a feather? Maybe. But I still think the details surrounding his killing points to the father. Camille was so outspoken that no one wanted to confront her with this.

    Wayne is guilty but the true scope and entire story we will never know. My theory is he was involved in a larger child exploitation ring where he was a "finder" and fixer/cleaner. But he's never fully confessed because he's compromised himself. He was the guy who'd drop off the kids to "producers" or "agents" but they were child mo's and either Wayne or the John would off the kid, often thru strangulation, similar to other 70s era killers like Gacy, Dean Corrll, etc. Gacy/Corrll connection was explored in the Clown and Candyman documentary.
    The two adults he was charged for were no saints and could've been involved but later ousted. Wayne did the dumping.
    After Wayne's image of child prodigy failed, and likely mixed sexual feelings, he fell into the Atlanta underworld, with his elderly parents ignorant/unwilling to admit his true nature (only child complex), and he eventually stumbled into child exploitation, knowing how lucrative and well connected many clients (lawyers, business owners etc) were.
    Mix this with a narcissistic personality disorder. Arresting Wayne didn't stop the larger deeper rings. It be 30 years until Amber Alert was created.

      You laid that out pretty well! I agree 100% that Wayne got involved with the child sex-for-higher ring operating in Atlanta. I think he was a child pornographer. He took nude pictures of boys and teenagers, and passed them around the ring. That way, a "client" could choose a boy, and Wayne may have even taken the kid to the client. I think he used his "talent agency" to procure boys for the ring, and I'm pretty sure he was paid for every boy he brought in. The victims were totally exploited because nearly all of them were very poor, and they were willing to pose nude, or allow pedophiles to perform sexual acts on them for money!! I think the kids were killed to protect the members of the ring, which I contend were highly esteemed members of the community, ex: teachers, ministers, city officials, etc. It's highly likely that Wayne's role in the Atlanta Murders is as pornographer and procurer. He knew a lot of the victims and he knew the killers. Some of them did time in prison for unrelated offenses, and some have since died. At least one very strong suspect, died of AIDS in prison in the 90s.
      The Atlanta Child Murders were much bigger than Wayne And!!

They are allowing their emotions and personal experiences and opinions to cloud over whatever intelligence common sense reason that they have. emotion, opinion, and personal experiences should not even be relevant for part of the equation as far as determining guilt or innocence and unfortunately, a lot of those idiot sticks end up on juries, and as a result of their incompetence and lack of understanding about the law, the legal system and evidence as well as responsibilities and obligations as a juror, So, as a result, we see innocent people being wrongfully convicted, sometimes sentenced to death or executed, and we see very guilty people unconvicted I can think of a few high profile examples right off the top of my head where people got sidetracked by deflection and emotion and it fucked up the whole kettle of soup. And that’s the scary thing that these people end up on juries. and what really makes me sick is seeing the families of the victims voicing support for Wayne Williams, and I imagine that makes him feel pretty clever and smug.
