  • The notorious killing spree that terrorized Atlanta’s black neighborhoods known as the Atlanta Child Murders has haunted the city for forty years.
One of the darkest moments in Atlanta’s history. 29 black children and young adults were murdered between 1979 to 1981. Wayne Williams was convicted of two of the adult murders, but questions have persisted whether he was guilty of all the murders.
Following an 11Alive Investigation, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms ordered the cases reopened.
Will other suspects emerge? Neima Abdulahi takes you inside that Investigation with an exclusive interview with a reliable source, on camera, saying for the first time he knows that Wayne Williams wasn’t responsible for one of the child murders.
This is Murder in Black & White

I just watched the new Forensic Files and it's crazy the way it evolved and what it can do now. They are able to not only lift DNA from just a touch, but also magnify it enough to get a physical profile. There is an algorithm that uses data from volunteers to build a CGI image based on the DNA that takes into account race, gender, age etc. They thought the killer was a Mexican migrant and the AI showed that it was a young white male. They put it on TV and his gf recognized and called in.

Back in the late 80s or early 90s they made a movie on HBO or Showtime with Gregory Hines playing an FBI agent investigating the Atlanta child murders and the movie concluded that the klan was involved in the murders, now it was not taken serious because it was a movie, but the movie probably got their info from this secret case on the kkk. Its been 40 years since these murders started and still have not been solved, my Heart goes all to all of those families that suffered this horrific tragedy, incredibly sad. SMDH.

Having said that, he's probably responsible for at least one murder. Fits the profile way too well. Issac Rogers clearly says it WAS infact Wayne Williams, as many other children and ppl also placed Wayne with or around some of these children and 27 year old Nathaniel who was found two days after the splash was heard in the river by authorities. If anything, it's my opinion that it was sloppy asf police work- when Wayne was stopped on the bridge there was what COULD have been evidence and even the murder weapon in the car that they didn't collect! What a difference that may have made in these cases.... Sad story, shameful police work and a lack of PROMPT reaction when the first half dozen kidnapping and deaths occurred, it was clearly someone wiping these children out and deserved immediate attention, not a dozen bodies and a years wait. Makes me sick. I don't know if Wayne is guilty considering there's a lack of physical evidence BUT I'm held to believe by eye witness account and circumstantial evidence and insanely damning fact that he was on that bridge where multiple bodies had already been dropped, a loud splash being heard, and the washing up of another body. I think it's almost fair to say these killings ironically halted once he was apprehended... unless someone has evidence otherwise? 👀

There could be no clothes or anything on the floor or I would wake up from nightmares thinking the pile on the floor was a child. I believe it affected the whole nation & kids were scared everywhere. Camille Bell was that you never seen her sad or crying or despondent about her child or any of the others. She was always angry and critical. I know everyone weeps differently but I suspect she not only had an idea of who may have killed her son but her public demeanor was a way to mask her regret or parenting decision. And she LOVED the limelight. The trips, the cameras and interviews, THE MONEY. When watched as a whole, a lot of her public presentation seemed to be more about identifying her as THE mother of the slain children. She did not want to concede the narrative to any other community leader. For example, there is TV clips from a townhall meeting just after the Bowen Homes tragedy. Camille Bell is seated on the front row as different citizens shared their opinions. The camera cuts to her as a "very urban" peer is trying to express themselves. She doesn't agree with the approach so she rolls her eyes and then interrupts by offering some passing support and then dismissing herself in a hurry. I believe Yusuf was killed by an acquaintance of his father. The MO of stranger danger passing by and saying "hey lil boy do you wanna make some money" doesn't apply here as he was running an errand already to make a lil change. His body was not dumped but rather hidden as to have not been found and then strangely found by a school janitor. A school janitor and family friend also identified his body. He was found in a school. There was a witness who saw the father with Yusuf, etc. The one string of information that MAY point to Yusuf being killed by one of the child murderers is that a witness came forward after the Timothy Hill killing to say that he and Hill would go to the Salvation Army to steal things because they knew the security guard, Larry Marshall. Marshall would lead them to the back of the store where they would be sodomized by waiting men. This little boy said he also knew Yusuf. Birds of a feather? Maybe. But I still think the details surrounding his killing points to the father. Camille was so outspoken that no one wanted to confront her with this.

These murders were committed by several different people, not a "serial killer." Remember the murders of 10 year old Earl Terrell and 12 year old Christopher Richardson? Shotgun shells were found beside their bodies, but their causes of death were "Undetermined." According to police, a "middle-aged white man with a southern drawl" called Earl Terrell's home to say he had Earl in Alabama and asked for $200 by Friday, but no more calls came.
Over half of the victims were killed with guns of different calibers, but neither Wayne Williams nor his father owned any guns, and no guns were found in their home. Incidentally, 14 year old Eric Middlebrooks was killed two weeks after he testified against three juveniles in a robbery case.
Right before Wayne was arrested, District Attorney Lewis Slaton publicly announced they did not have enough evidence to arrest Wayne Williams, but the Federal Government pressured Lewis Slaton into issuing an arrest warrant anyway.

I'm a licensed psychologist. The reason Wayne Williams failed the polygraph is because he fell for our famous trick. As a polygrapher, there are two things we look for. (1) If the person arrives late. (2) If the person asks questions after the test. If they arrive late, that usually indicates their unwillingness to answer questions which is an automatic FAIL. If the person asks if they passed or failed, that usually indicates they have lied which is also an automatic FAIL. After all, if you've been honest, why are you concerned if you passed or failed?
After every test, we are suppose to ask if you have any questions. The best thing you can do is say, "NO." Wayne Williams took the bait and started asking questions which is why he failed. You can believe me when I say that Wayne Williams is innocent. He is only guilty of having a smart-aleck mouth... which is what got him thrown into prison.

It's interesting to explore it as a political and social phenomenon. Wayne Williams was a graveyard shift freelance news photographer, which meant he knew, through contacts and police scanners, what was going on in the middle of the night around Atlanta. Wayne was fucking with a law enforcement investigation that was in crisis and a political establishment -- local, state, and federal -- that was severely stressed. In that circumstance, the prosecutor would be looking for a ham sandwich to indict, and the political super-structure would assure that once the train left the station there would be no looking back.

27 children murdered. Out of those 27 only one female. That tells a lot. That there was a very active male child killer. Back then children getting murdered was completely abnormal. Children passing from flu, measles, car wrecks, very common. Sickness claimed many young. But to have 27 kids murdered in one place back then that was unheard of. Now a days you hear about babies and kids getting murdered all the time. Rather intentionally or not. Stray bullets. Parents, step parents, foster parents, babysitters, neighbors. So it ties to one killer with the exception of literally one. It was not the KKK. To never cause a seen, hear a child scream, abducted from a regular route, etc a white person would have stuck out like a sore thumb. To abduct that many kids and double that for just the scoping he would have had to have done. No. Didn't happen. This was someone that would not have gotten a second glance. They wouldnt even have been able to drive down the street without people without drawing attention. Not to mention the KKK did not abduct small children no matter their color. They did have a basic structure and an obvious history and pattern when they did commit or were involved in a crime. Im not taking up for them. Im stating a fact. My dad, a white man was born and grew up in Brewton, Alabama. He told me something once that really surprised me. The KKK built and lit a cross in his grandma's front yard. Who by the way also white. You would be a target of them also for not taking care of your kids or being a regular a church. Or broke some other rule or law that to them showed you were not contributing to the white class. Rather you knew about it or not and didnt have anything to do with the KKK if you were white you were expected to act in what at that time a social and outward appearance of whiteness. Even if you did not agree or paid them mind you werent going to do anything that they opposed of because so many men from families all of the county were in the KKK. So eyes everywhere. But these men were also higher on the social and economic ladder. You wouldnt find a man and woman living in a one to two bedroom cabin built themselves farming their own land for food on their own table and then just a little more to sell to buy the other things they needed. WITH 14 KIDS. That would be my great grandparents. My gggreatma got killed by a bear. My gggrandpa married her sister. Which at the time made sense. You didn't get to meet people. You have a bunch of kids and this person already has been around them and more than likely lived in the home with them. My dad's cousin is also his brother. They have the same dad and their mom's are sisters. Yep. Alabama. But towns then everyone was related and were cousins. Everywhere. Now population is so huge and people can socialize with others within seconds o the other side of the world. Back then they didn't leave til it was time to get married.
