      Race
About 1% of white, Asian and Hispanic men ages 15 to 19 are fathers, compared with about 3% of black men of the same age.
Among men ages 20 to 29, 21.2% of white men, 24.9% of black men, 12.4% of Asian men, and 29.4% of Hispanic men are fathers.
      Educational Attainment
About 14% of fathers do not have a high school diploma, and roughly 12% of fathers hold a graduate or professional degree.
Among men ages 40 to 50 years, men with a bachelor’s degree are less likely to have children than men with less than a high school diploma.
census reports show that about 75% of white men, 80% of Black men, 81% of Asian men, and 83% of Hispanic men ages 40-49 have kids.
The number talking about black men don’t have kids is only a certain age range. It’s not the entire age range. This is important when quoting stats

The reason Killer Michael's "solution" seems ridiculous is because he's not trying to resolve legitimate barriers that prevent people from living a productive and healthy life (education, livable wages, healthcare, etc.). His scheme is oriented around the "problem" of Black men having to pay child support (roughly $200/month). Which in and of itself is embarrassing af.
What's even more baffling about his stance is that he's clearly not concerned about the ramifications men face when they don't pay CS. We hear them often complain about the possible jail time, revocation of licenses and passports, etc. But he didn't bring that up. He just replaced one "command" (child support) with another (trade school). His only issue is Black men are being held financially responsible for their children 🤦🏾‍♀️
Lastly, higher education is already widely accessible. The system isn't perfect and definitely needs improvement. But there are no shortages of scholarships, grants, and subsidized loans for underprivileged people, hence why Black women are going in droves. I take issue with how KM infantalizes Black men by saying they need incentives to do what their baby mamas are already doing. There is already an incentive for higher education, i.e. increased earning potential, and better life outcomes. Why isn't that enough? Why shouldn't absentee parents have to pay CS?

Great episode. When Killer Mike started going on about stealing money through child support all I could think of was how similar it is to food stamp rhetoric, welfare queens, getting fat off free Twinkies, etc. I am sure child support has been misused at some point, but if you want to argue its common you better have the data. Also I know people who work in the trades and all the glorification of it is bullshit. It's backbreaking work with a terrible culture, and most people in it do not make a lot of money. Usually the people making a lot of money are the business owner/manager class. If you ever need to find where the good paying jobs are look for where the middle to upper-middle class white kids are being pointed. The kid who has a doctor for a mom and a CPA for a dad is NOT being pressured to go to the trades. You can apply this to any "unknown" job market, like for a little while there OF was being touted as a big money maker, and then it comes out that the average creator on there makes like $80 a month.

@@Beebie247that's not the problem the OP addressed. Ppl have been working to get better wages and continues to present day, that's a whole other issue separate from the issue of child support. Funny he feels cs is the most important issue to address and not fatherlessness but anyway it was KM who proposed trades when he could have proposed an AA as a requirement. Being as he did propose trades as requirement and ultimately the solution then u then have to look at the reality that while ppl are actively fighting for better wages the wages are what they are right now and u have to consider that very real reality.

"a form of feminism that emphasizes women's natural contribution to society (used by some in distinction to the term feminism and its association with white women)."
You keep using that word. i dont think it means what you think it means.
I can appreciate the research done by the professor, but it feels flippant to be like "intersectional feminism doesnt count because feminism had to learn to be intersection and include parts of womanism". Yes, things hopefully improve over time. Im not supporting white feminism, which is the specific term for the feminism you ascribe to all feminism. Womanism is specifically from the black perspective, written by black women. So no indigenous or asian influences or trans influences what so ever. How is that *more* intersectional than a form of feminism that includes those perspectives as well.

    • @DeemeeLizz
      @DeemeeLizz Před 4 měsíci

It is untrue that Asian and Indigenous influence is not present. Womanism is more international, Indigenous and generally non-white than intersectional (white woman) feminism. Womanism does not start with white supremacy as the basis. Feminism does…then it adds everyone else as extra. Womanism starts with deconstructed white supremacy which fundamentally makes more space for ALL women. Your analysis and information seems to be informed by (white woman) feminism with some neo liberal intersectional courses tossed in.

But it doesn't sound like he was apologetic about it later either, so i'm inclined to believe that in his view sexualizing naked women is ok and he doesn't realize that there is a consent component to it. The consent isn't about what you might see, but about being sexualized.
He probably didn't intend anything disrespectful and just assumed that whatever feels normal/natural to him in the situation is ok/normal, but isn't all disrespect like that? It doesn't mean it's not disrespectful.

The history of the phrase "radical feminism" is actually really interesting to me. Because it doesnt come just as a radical reaction to patriarchy, the word "radical" in this context actually references the math term radical, like a point on a graph. So radical feminism literally means the belief that all the world's woes (all hegemonic power structures) really boil down to hatred for women. In a radical feminists view, everything boils down to misogyny. Homophobia is just "men being treated like women" in their eyes. You get the trans split, where some of the RFs say that trans people are just another outgrowth of patriarchy (wrong) and some say that transmisogyny exists and is more evidence that everything is about misoyny in the end (less transphobic at least). When confronted with race most RFs will fall back on the fact that anybody from any race can be misogynistic (true) and ignore all other aspects of race in society, instead of being forced to grapple with white supremacy in any way. They function with Islamophobia and antisemitism the same way. They dont bother discussing ableism at all, unless theres a woman involved (but thats mostly because most movements dont really push to examine ableism and so no one really questions them on that).
Intersectional feminsim is set up to directly counter that, set up to say "no misogyny is not the radical center of all oppression". So hes totally right that it's a response to the pitfalls that exist within radical feminism. I can totally understand wanting to divest from the term feminism entirely, and fair enough. But Kimberlee Crenshaw is the one who coined the term, so intersectional feminism is also headed by black women. Additionally i have met self avowed womanists who are transphobic.
I think the frustrating thing all movements must face is there will be people who are straight up using the words wrong lmao. White people use intersectionality wrong all the time, there are cis people using womanist wrong. We're all gonna have to sit down and discuss what we mean by what every time until the end of forever i feel like. On the subject of mansplaining, i hate it the more i hear it. It Was a useful term once- but now people use it to perpetuate racism and ableism very often. A lot like Karen- as soon as it was heard by white people everyone started using it to change from meaning "white woman weaponizing white womanhood in public" to "someone who annoys customer service workers" to "someone i dont like right now". I saw someone call people protesting ableist fake autism "treatments" Karens simply because it would disrupt the flow of work for people at the store selling the fake treatments (and also all the workers in the store were white, the people protesting were also white). Like, sorry for those guys but sometimes your business will be protested if it is doing something wrong.
