As a 75 year old, sometimes having to walk home (rented flat) alone at night from my daughter’s flat, not far admittedly, I always feel very safe in Sevilla, far safer than I would doing the same thing in Oxford

Ireland is having a major problem with high levels of crime, much of the crime is drug related. I felt much safer living in Spain. I enjoy your channel, and your straight talking, keep up your good work. 👍

It’s so heartbreaking about unaccompanied minors. It’s a main source for sex trafficking of the most vulnerable, and a worldwide problem.

If a person lives for more than 183 days per year in Spain that person is a Spanish fiscal resident and subject to Spanish income tax

UK holidaymakers are reportedly "abandoning" their sunny retreats in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
A major tour operator is also ending an agreement with a number of hotels which would see 3.700 possibly made unemployed. At the same time a major holiday airline is reducing flights.

Hi Stuart, have loved your videos since lockdown and your daily vlogs kept me going. Just want to talk about money in Spain, there is no shotrage of money where we live in Torrevieja. You have expensive restaurants such as Meson de la costa and bar Lovento filled with customers eating meals of 500 euros a table. There is money awash here. Dont know where Spain is doing it hard but for sure its not here.

very informative update Stuart. Thank you again. Regarding the crime stats, I'm glad I'm staying in Bilbao August through end of October. Do you or any of your readers/followers how many hours I need to attend classes per week to qualify for a student visa for less than 183 days?

Re Archibald Dickson, Dickson was the captain of the SS Stanbrook, a British merchant ship that rescued almost 3,000 Spanish Republicans in the port of Alicante, in Spain, during the night of 28 March 1939.
On November 18, 1939, at the beginning of World War II, the SS Stanbrook was torpedoed in the North Sea by U-boat U-57. Archibald Dickson died on board.
His bust and information is at Alicante Marina. (Vandalised this week, unfortunately).

One of the contributors to the housing shortage here in the USA is because of rentals being converted to Airbnbs. Some ways that cities are cracking down is condos restrict their association members from converting or limit the time a condo can be used as an airbnb. Another way is the cities put fines for not paying hotel taxes on vacation rentals. Is this happening in Espana?

I think, like anywhere these days, crime increases the more poverty there is. Substance abuse is a leading cause of thefts, burglaries and violence. Post-Covid many countries like Canada, many people have not returned to working for a living and I blame our Prime Ministers’ emergency assistance programme instituted to help people who had no ability to work from home. The problem was, not enough scrutiny for qualification, that was to be followed up but wasn’t, it became an incentive not to return to work when Covid restrictions were lifted. Not sure if similar issues arose in other countries.

This is risky to have unaccompanied minors it can lead to child trafficking, child prostitution or child slaved. Unaccompanied minors should be handed over to the U N or dropped at the doorstep of their country of origin

It's hard to find meaningful correlation btwn crime and immigration in Spain. What is most direct as a possible cause is the high unemployment rate. I don't know if this has increased along with crime rates, though. Funny that many immigrants to Spain seek employment opportunities. Perhaps indusrties grow too slowly for Spain's population? But why is that?

During the GFC, Spain's debt was 40% of GDP in 2008. It's now 108% of GDP. With an aging population that debt will only climb.

If Spain is like Maine, too much temporary work can lead to low employment. Construction and service sectors overdominate, perhaps?
