  • The developers of the BMW M3 and M4 have the floor. No frills; just information - first-hand from those who know best. In Episode 17, Manuel talks about M Traction Control, DSC and MDM of the new M vehicles.
    BMW M3 Competition / BMW M4 Competition:
    Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.2. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 234.
    BMW M3 / BMW M4::
    Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.8. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 248.
    The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval.
    The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The values of the vehicles are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles. [With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2-emissions the CO2 values may differ to the values stated here.] The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.
    For more information on the WLTP and NEDC test procedures, see www.bmw.com/en/innovation/wlt....
    Further information on official fuel consumption figures and specific CO2 emission values of new passenger cars is included in the following guideline: 'Leitfaden über den Kraftstoffverbrauch, die CO2-Emissionen und den Stromverbrauch neuer Personenkraftwagen' (Guide to the fuel economy, CO2 emissions and electric power consumption of new passenger cars), which can be obtained free of charge from all dealerships, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at www.dat.de/co2.

    @BMWM, great video.
    Thank you for the clear explanation of the M traction control. I just received my M3 Comp. 2 weeks ago and I LOVE IT. Best M3 ever. Needless to say I am visiting the track this summer.
    One question: When traction is set to 10 with DSC OFF, does it behave the same as MDM? if not, what is the difference?

    • @BMWM
      @BMWM  Před 3 lety +26

      M Traction Control and MDM are different functions, hence there is no M Traction Control setting which equals MDM.
      Simply spoken, M Traction Control is a slip control mechanism that controls rear wheel slip in 10 stages when DSC is switched off. Level 0 is OFF and allows for unlimited wheel spin. The higher levels allow for very limited slip. The slip is controlled using the engine‘s rpm as the only parameter. The vehicle’s yaw rate is not a controlled parameter here.
      In contrast to M Traction Control, MDM is a part of the DSC mechanism and actively controls the vehicle‘s yaw rate. DSC/MDM use engine power controls as well as brake interventions to stabilize the vehicle dynamics on the road. MDM uses M Traction Control levels 4 to 7 depending on yaw rate behaviour.

    I don't understand why we don't have m3 ,m4 in India.
    We just have m2, m5, m8.

      It will come to India in June. You’re gonna have to wait for another two months. It should start from 65.00 lakh. That’s for the xDrive Competition model.
      I don’t know for the manual version, but xDrive will not have manual for any market.

    Excellent Video! I have just ordered the x-drive M3. Is is possible to switch it to 2wd and use the 10 step traction control for ‘normal’ driving?

    • @85Pando
      @85Pando Před 2 lety

      Traction Control can only be activated in DSC OFF + 2WD. When you activate it in another configuration the DSC will be deactivated and the AWD will be set to 2WD.

    Like an idiot I did not order the M drive professional package with my M3 because I thought the 10 stage traction control came with the car anyway and I didn’t care about the drift analyzer. Now that I have the car I realize I was wrong. Is this something I can pay for and add to the car now that I already have it? Thanks

      If you do not want to drift, but do good lap times… The system allows for most amount of torque to be applied to the the track. Might not look/sound/feel as fun, but gets you around a little faster.

      Because I don't commute on a racing track every day. And I would like to have it in idiot mode when there are other innocent drivers and families on the road. Not to mention ice, leaves, pot holes, and man hole covers. If you want to be a drift monster take it to the fucking track. 20 years of cutting wannabe stigs alongside innocent victims out of cars has led me to that opinion. I am an M owner. But a fucking responsible one. Peace👍
