- In this video, we'll show you how to remove skunk smell from your dog, fast and using household products! If your dog has been sprayed by a skunk, be sure to not put any water on them at first! The thiol in the skunk's spray will smell A LOT worse after you apply water directly to the affected area. These products are some things that you may have in your home already! If your dog seems unusually affected after the exposure to a skunk spray, be sure to take them to your local veterinarian.

So we have a groomer appointment 9 days after our dog was sprayed. We are currently on Day 2. I have bathed him with the full quart yesterday and another full quart today. I will probably bathe him tomorrow and the next day also. He smells 90% better. It is mainly behind his ear and on his snout. My question is... Do you think having the grooming appointment will be worth it based on how many times I will be bathing it off of him?
Omg! My dog just got DOUSED BIG TIME right square in his face! In daylight!! Dusk, but more daylight. I usually have a big bottle of that skunk out (or whatever) but I went for it, NO! Googled, got you. Cool. NO BAKING SODA! 7-11. Treated him, now I'm gonna spray this all over! Carpets, walls, everything! Ty so much! You're a life saver!

Me too. My family insisted to use tomatoes so I used it first just to video it and prove them wrong and prove that your scientific methodology is superior. It really works. When your dog is still wet you might think it didn't work fully, they're might be a faint skunk smell left but it's OK. Once dry it is gone and a second bath the next day would never hurt 🥰 thanks for the help. I seriously almost must did what my elders said, I would have been sleeping with a husky wearing skunk smell for days and days. I really appreciate your passing on this good solid advice 🥰

12:30am right after getting home from a 12hr shift. I repeated 3 times on my little pug and after drying him, I went nose to nose with him and didn't smell a thing! Life saver!

Oh no! I feel your pain, Heather! These things seem to happen at the worst times.. You may notice that if your dog gets wet the smell is apparent again. This may last for a week or so depending on how thoroughly your dog was sprayed. Using this treatment may need to be repeated a couple of times. Hope things go smoothly for you two! We just did this. First coating worked wonders. Second coating helped even more. It's about 40 degrees here. Poor dog! We have him inside the fireplace gate warming up now-skunk smell free! Thank you boys!

Being how this video figuratively saved my life last night, because like you said it always happens at 11:00. I feel compelled to leave a comment thanking you for posting this. It was very helpful! The only suggestion I might make is because the detergent will play the role of lifting the chemical compound off the dog and because it is supposedly safer for them and personally I know it does better on organic compounds than most other dish soaps, I would use Dawn. In fact, that is exactly what we, my wife and I, used for our dish soap, although it is typically more expensive 😒 get a small bottle if for nothing else but this, and one application worked great! We followed it up with a second one application just to make sure, but I haven't even smelt the residual, and I've had to walk him through wet grass a couple times today. So I'm very pleased with how this came out. Thank you all very much again! Also we use a specific dog shampoo after because this leaves the fur a little dry and coarse feeling, so to shout them out, Fresh and soothing, hella good shampoo we use the lavish 4-1 on our golden doodle, The dog that unfortunately got skunked, and an order control for our Jack Russell which is not typically smelly, but rolls in dead earthworms from time to time, but the shampoo smells great and the sent lasts a while.

Thanks for the great de skunk recipe! I followed exactly you said and my doggy is skunk smell free. Poor guy had his whole face and neck sprayed last night. I even soaked his collar and leash in the remaining mix let it soak for 1 hr and they're are smell free. 👍😁
Thank you, my dog took a direct to the face and luckily we had these items at the house. It worked way better than I expected. I only had enough for one treatment but you saved me from having to head to town right away and having her get the scent all through the garage even more than necessary.

Wow! THANK YOU for this!!! My 85 pound Staffie got a skunk this morning. Fortunately I watched your video BEFORE putting water on him. I applied the solution twice and there is barely any smell left. I am going to do a third application later today, just to be sure. I cannot thank you enough! 😊

Our poor chihuahua just learned the hard way that you don't chase a skunk. He got sprayed and I quickly ran him in the house put him in the tub and washed him with tomato juice and put him in the cage so he wouldn't jump on the furniture. I wish I had seen this video yesterday. Now I'll give him another bath today using your mix and hope it helps. I just feel so terribly sad for our Louie! We have never put him in a cage to stay all night because he always sleeps with us. Fingers crossed your mix helps us today.

It’s important to remember....skunks are mostly nocturnal. This is why Its common for dog/skunk encounters to happen from late evening and throughout the night. IF you have an encounter during the day rabies could be a factor! Something is causing the skunk to operate outside it’s normal pattern of behavior.
I keep tear resistant nitrile gloves on hand for dealing with solvents, oils, paints and yes, even a dog that has a skunk encounter. I find them far superior to latex. Just a suggestion.
Also handy is to wear a throw away poncho from the dollar store or a large plastic garbage bag with holes cut in for your arms and head. It’s reflexive for a dog to want to shake to remove any type of dampness from their coat. This will protect you some what from being the recipient of such a shower. 😷
Old T-shirt, old jeans, old shoes, old hat... just in case you need to toss them after the fact.
Outside if possible. I don’t think this needs explaining.
Also, like was mentioned in the video... a good recall command is invaluable. Up until last night it has save my dog from several encounters with skunks and porcupines. I just didn’t see this one in the tall grass last night and didn’t know to call him off. 🤷🏽♂️
Many times the snout and facial area of your dog will be the recipient of Pepe’s perfume. Mainly because dogs hunt with their nose. So you may need to work around sensitive areas such as eyes, nostrils and inner ears. I use gloved fingers to apply the slurry and work it in, it gives you very good control around these areas. Always remember when rinsing to wash away from these areas, much like you would with a toddler.
A garden hose with an adjustable spray nozzle for rinsing. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Winston the Westie had a close encounter. Followed the instructions and Voila!!, no more stinky dog. I used the two application approach for the 20 lb dog and had some of the product left over. FYI: For me, the oxidation reaction between the hydrogen peroxide and the baking soda was not instantaneous. The dog didn't appreciate the temperature of the solution during the first application, so I zapped the remaining amount for 30 seconds in the microwave to warm it up. That's when the foaming really got going. Winston says thanks for the great video.
10 pm here. Had to run the store for hydrogen peroxide. Made the receipt applied as suggested (2 times +shampoo). Wife is pregnant sleeping upstairs, dog and i sleeping downstairs but at least he is smelling okay. Thank you so much this was a life saver!

Well my nose seems ruined for awhile. I followed your formula. This old dog got it full blast in her snout. She could hardly breathe for about 10 min . It’s 2:30a . I swear my whole house smells. I’ve got air filters running with central air., but I swear my sense of smell is ruined

Thank you! 2am...my dog got sprayed in the face ....this stuff worked like a charm! I didnt even have to use the full quart of chemicals .....within 5 to 10 minutes the smell was gone and i was able to give him a regular bath and he was smelling clean as heck afterwards.
2:30am, dog sprayed right in the face. I though she was bit, had foam coming out of her mouth, or so it looked like. Her eyes were closed and squinting like she was hurt. I brought her inside and called animal emergency, helped me discover it was "just" skunk spray.
The smell was really weird at first, didnt smell like typical skunk. It must have been a close quarters concentrated burst lol, as it is pungent.
My house reaks, but this solution is helping my dog at least. Thank you so much for the breakdown, it's the exact recipe animal control gave me!!!

THIS WORKS!! Literally just used this diy, only thing that the skunk spray got some on her face, but we use tomato sauce for her face. The dog was mainly used was around her neck.
It’s effective but you might have to give it time and more than two probably. I recommend that, just don’t put this diy on his face!

Excellently done and my 120 pound Bernese got sprayed at 5 a.m. and it was bad. Sadly I didn’t have this video but I did wash him with baking soda peroxide and dish soap but didn’t leave it on long enough and then I rinse with the hose and the next day he went to groomer. I’ll know next time, if there’s a next one.

This worked for my dog. Just one wash. I can also say that using water initially was my first instinct. Certainly know I have learned that lesson.
I don't know. I instinctively coated him in his flea shampoo while he stood on the step of the shallow end. And I just tossed him in the pool like 3 times each time in-between working out the lathering.
It didn't fully go away but it certainly made it way better.

I just used this solution first with no water just the hydrogen I kept scrubbing her with her bathing glove for 5 minutes, then washed her with her puppy shampoo worked great! She doesn’t smell anymore and she’s clean!

So my dog got sprayed by a skunk in the backyard last night, he went to pee and chased after the skunk….so the smell was immediately so strong it just gags you. We used your method to get the smell off and it worked.

I picked her up and we both got in shower and I shampooed her and me and waited dripping as my husband drove to store to buy ingredients. Finally finished 2 applications and then dog shampoo. Will let you know how this goes. It’s after midnight. Ugh! Sucks!

My local small (3 isles) gas station had everything and it was only $3.50 for baking soda and 3% hydrogen peroxide, I had dawn at home. FYI check local gas stations, they might have it. My husky got sprayed at 2am when I let my dogs out for potty.

My dog got skunked last week in the chest. I used your method and the smell was gone almost instantly. She got skunked again tonight in the face. Again, the smell was gone after using your method. I'm out of peroxide so now I'm going to the source and trying to trap the skunk.

Happened to my dog at 3 am on July 3. Then she races back into my Bed very pleased with herself. And I’m dying. Lost 24 hrs sleep. Between her, my burning sinuses, and trying to get the odor out of my house,, not to mention, threw away my favorite sheets. 😢

I live in South Dakota and everyone said Tomato juice and dish soap it did not work. Now I smell like a skunk she is a Great Dane Husky mix. Her hair is basically waterproof. I also bought these ingredients. I’m hoping this works tomorrow
It works. Not completely, but takes about 80 to 90% of the smell. Do note that when they get wet, it does comes back some. Just takes time for it to wear off.

I don't have a comment yet cause haven't tried the method yet but I have a question, is it ok to bathe dog in regular scented shampoo after doing this or do you think it would irritate the skin or counteract with the method somehow?

Thank you. Yes it works. I could have done a better wash job. 2 mid size dogs. One worse then the other. I’ll wash again tomorrow. Of course this happens right before we’re all going to bed. I still taste nasty hint of garlic in my mouth. I was about 10 feet away when my main dog got it in the face. I tried to recall them. I just knew it was a damn skunk for some reason. Had dogs for 30 years. First time this happened to us. Thank you again. Oh and anyone know how to get rid of the residual smell in the house? Of course they came running into the house and straight to the dog beds in the kitchen.

Used this formula last night…I didn’t have enough hydrogen peroxide so I just used ratios to put what I had together ….it worked really well….I had enough solution to apply two applications; I was very pleased with the results!
Doggo got sprayed directly in the face last night. This method worked. Took a few extra applications on his face/muzzle since I was using paper towels. Now just have to clean the whole house. No animal should have a smell this bad. Skunks are OP.

I have fruit trees on my property and have been dealing with skunks for over thirty years. The formula that he shows you in this video I'm sure works really well, not that I have ever tried it. If you don't have these items laying around but do have cans of tomato sauce and hydrogen peroxide this to will work fairly well. Something I have used many times over the years to help neutralize the smell. Just remember skunks are your friends and will help keep the rodent population down on your property. They are very smart, and you really don't have to fear them because most of the time they will run off, just don't startle them or you'll be a victim and will get sprayed with that great smell.
I have always used tomato paste, but willing to give this a shot. Typically with tomato paste, I need to take a shower with it too by the time I am done with the dog.
small town I lived in growing up, they never locked the doors of their police cars. some jokers dumped skunk smell in to all the squad cars one night. They had 50 gallon barrels of tomato paste on their emergency requisition list. 😆
Mine got sprayed last night and this worked great. Any tips though for cleaning the mouth and snout? He kept licking his snout with the solution on it and now his snout still smells.
Try coconut oil
