And they value album sales too much, which don't fuckin matter. "What's sad is I love you cuz you my brother YOU TRADED YOUR SOUL FOR RICHES" Get the fuck out of here. Nas didn't say fuck Jay Z... That's 2Pac in the beginning. Lol he got dissed by two legends in one year. Jay Z is great, but Nas is more respected because he represents the culture. Jay was more commercial and hopped on trends. Same with the Kendrick Lamar vs Drake convo.

Jay has never been a singer. Drake gets you excited when he actually has a real rap record. Crossover success refers to changing music to reach different demographics. Jay has changed his sound and reached more people but Drake is referred to as a rapper but he is more of an R&B artist now. Conversational context is important.

I feel takeover was a better beat and was more catchy
but ether did what a lot of diss songs don't do. It discredits not Jay Z as a name but Jay Z as a person.
Ether made Jay look like less than a man.
There were moments in ether that made you question jay z' s whole character.

  • @monroenow
    @monroenow Před 7 lety +4

I am in the understanding that Jay-Z is the artist and NAS is the lyricist. Jay-Z on Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album was the last time he got intensely and deeply poetic. NAS always kept up on the Hip-Hop Poetry, ditching Pop songs and Club Hits in favor of the lyrical craft of HipHop. Jay-Z, to I, was more commercially successful than NAS because of Jay-Z's ear for beats and sound. NAS suffered on the quality of beats but always, to I, delivered impactful beautiful Hip-Hop Poetry that educated and enlightened I's mind. I want Jay-Z to return to his Reasonable Doubt days because the way he flowed on it, the word choice, the picture he painted was so vivid and inspiring. I always felt whoever produced or mixed Reasonable Doubt fucked up on the Volume the Songs bump at. All his later albums came through with more Bass or possibly a Higher Volume measure. My point being, Nas is the Lyricist to Jay-Z's artistry. They ought to borrow from each other and develop a more well-rounded Game. So as to make the World a better place.

This guy has been doing it for over 30 years now and still going, and I'm not a new york guy, lived in cali my whole life. I'd put my money on Kool Keith in a freestyle battle any day, dude can spit. He may not have a chart topping catalog but his stuff ( especially with Dan the Automator and Kutmasta Kurt) is some of the most original Hip Hop to this day with nothing ever sounding like it. Just think he is an honorable mention at least. I saw him at a show last year and the guy is 53 is still putting it down.

Pac is the great. His impact is completely unparalleled.
      Nas is a better lyricist.

Through the lights cameras and action, glamour glitters and gold
I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
To conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my wisdom with the system that imprisoned my son
Smoke a gold leaf I hold heat, nonchalantly
I'm raunchy, the things I do is real it never haunts me
While, funny style niggas roll in the pile
Rooster heads profile on a bus to Riker's Isle
Holding weed inside they pussy with they minds on the pretty things in life
Props is a true thug's wife
It's like a cycle, niggas come home, some'll go in
Do a bullet, come back, do the same shit again
From the womb to the tomb, presume the unpredictable
Guns salute life, rapidly, that's the ritual

Tell you what. take the best lyricists that you can think of in this planet : and put them all in categories
    (ex:Immortal Technique for Real ish,
    Andre 3000 for atmosphere
    Aesop Rock for Lyrical Genius,
    Mos Def for culture,
    Ludacris for punchlines,
    Eyedea for battle flow, etc.)
and put them all in the same room to create a rap that will blow the generation of hip-hop off its feet.
now if they gave you that one song, and you obtained extreme status, and crap load of awards, #1 on the top 100 on all billboards, Leading for 3 years straight, etc. does that make you the best rapper in the rap game? the fact that you didn't put in the blood, sweat and tears into the work that you spit: does that put you anywhere near the level that others had to work for (by brainstorming, writing lyrics, throwing them out, and crafting the best rhymes they can conjure by themselvesm)? heck yeah you probably have one heck of a delivery, and you had a group of phenomenal writers behind you, but you can't call yourself anything near the best artists if you're hands didn't create the art peice. that's like you drawing the best picture in the world, but I get all the credit because I uncovered and showed it off for art critics to praise.
