  • Here's how some of the greatest rappers make rhymes.
From the simple nursery rhyme-like bars of Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks" to the smooth East Coast flow of Notorious B.I.G.'s hit song "Hypnotize" to the speedy delivery of Kendrick Lamar's "Rigamortis," rhyming in rap music has not only evolved, it's gotten better.
The video above explores how some of the greatest rappers of all time create memorable, lyrically dense rhymes.
And here's a playlist highlighting songs that are prime examples of how great rhyming in rap can be: open.spotify.com/user/estelle...

This video is great. I love the way it breaks it down with the color format and tell what it is theyre doing. I do have to say though, you could have made an entire video on Em alone. What he does with words and sentences is like no other. Like, he bends the words around to rhyme with other words that normally would not work. And when you mentioned Holorime near the end, Em does that ALL the time. Its mind blowing that he can do what he does. They're all amazing though. Great vid.

Yes, it would be enjoyable to watch rap with different styles/ flows/ subject matter/ mastery of the English language while displaying pride in their craft slowly rot into retarded/ same subject matter/ special education flows, mastery of the same 320 words, while ducking the rest of the English language, talkin' bout they 'Rappers', while the currently skilled real rappers don't get proper shine because they think before they talk. That would be awesome to watch.

Whether it is animal, vegetable, or mineral
It's a miracle how he get so lyrical
And proceed to move the crowd like a old Negro spiritual

Not quite, it isn't, it's something else.
The rhyming is great, but very few rappers are in the same league as top poets when it comes to content. Granted, there's so much bad poetry out there as well as so many mediocre rappers, but if you think, for example, that Eminem's or Masta Ace's storytelling is good enough to compare with poets, you probably need to read better poetry.

Don't forget about Talib. The two of them are on a level all on their own. And when they get together, it's magic. I still listen to Black Star to this day.

Try listening to "Kon queso", "Gas Drawls", "Strange Ways", "Figaro", or "Vaudeville Villain". But its fine if you can't get into it, he's not for everybody.

I don't know what Elzhi did to never get mentioned but when I see one of these or greatest lyricists list, to me it's almost impossible to leave him off. Like someone really has to go out of their way when they are mentioning syllables, rhyme schemes, beats, etc. If he isn't the best, he's one of them.

Check out the scene. Like all other forms of art, there's pop for easy consumption and the few who are serious about their craft.

+Sir_Clovis you shouldn't base your appreciation of music on technicality

respect is different from appreciation, i'm still not really a fan of the genre but i can respect the artists who put this level of thought and complexity into their work.
