Asteroids has such cool sounds for an old game. But my favorite sounding game of all times was Defender :)
Who feels like a kid again watching this?
Like if you do.... I do most definitely.
I do :)
I love that Asteroids cabaret. A restaurant near me had an Asteroids Deluxe cabaret back in 1981. I used to play that game all the time.
Great memories
Very cool. When they brought this one to us to repair, I put it in the back room for a month or two before I got around to it, I had it in my head that it actually WAS an Asteroids Deluxe for some reason, then when I dug it out it's always been an Asteroids. Maybe the Deluxe was more common?
@@LyonsArcade - The artwork on the AD cabinet was far superior to the graphics on the original Asteroids. imo lol
Someone needs to run a 'one handed' asteroids competition :D
They ain't got the guts to go up against me, pfft!
Watching these back episodes rocks thanks Joe's Classic Video Games, greatly appreciated.
II keep sing games in your display case games that I really want for reviews, & Nintendo games for codes.
Thanks Spider, we appreciate it... yeah the games in the cases is an added bonus, haha. Keep in mind most of those are probably gone now....
OMG so cool ! man so wish there were original vectors in Australia !
They're pretty hard to find over here too Normandy, a thing of the past but they still pop up from time to time!
It may be so good to be able to do this stuff somebody has spent hour trying to fix this!
An all time classic! I spent more than a few quarters on this one :)
Definitely a piece of history!
I would love to own one of these, lovely little Asteroids cabinet
Yup, I love it. Very cool design, very quirky.
Super informative. If I get one, hopefully I won’t have to go that deep ever, but good tips!
You can keep it running if you get one... the hardest part is if you have PCB level repair but even that can be done!
I have a cabaret like that. It came with a Centipede that I bought. The Asteroids machine doesn’t have an image on the monitor but it makes sounds.
I enjoy all of your videos, but these repair ones are by far my favorite. They're fascinating and it's fun to watch you track down and solve the issues. :)
It's all edited down, most of the real stuff takes even longer, lol. It's frustrating while we're working on them sometimes but we try to edit it into a video that's easy to follow :)
Don't ever recall seeing a woodgrain and a short cabinet Astroids arcade game
yeah it's pretty wild, huh? They made a whole line of "Cabaret" models, the Battlezone one is a trip.
@@LyonsArcade I would love to see a Tron rebuild if you have one.
i used to play that game for hours on end on just 1 quarter at skakeys pizza or K&B drug store.once you knew where that little saucer came out you just waited and shot it and got free games all day...soooo long ago..before the time and gravity took charge.
Skakeys Pizza and K&B drug store, what names! Around here K&B was a Toy store, where you were they sold drugs, LOL! Those were the times, we used to play games at the "Hills" department store, it was just a different time back then.... we've still got the memories though, right?
@@LyonsArcadeTHX for the memory lane reminder. TU.... Down in New Orleans, bayou country with purple mushrooms to enhance the experience.;-) we were in our prime then and never thought we'd get old.
My deluxe has size adjustment wheels on the game PCB and there are pots for it on the deflector board too.
Yes sir, there are!
Such a cool little cab!
Great job on the the repair!
Thanks Sillysausage!
Thanks for another great video. Finally you had a video focused entirely on the vector monitor. Your troubleshooting videos are great. Keep it up! (On a side note, now I want a cabaret. Those are great little cabinets.)
Definitely! If you search around on our channel we've done some videos before on several Asteroids machines where we showed some monitor stuff, we may have done a Tempest too and showed the monitor repair.
Great work again! Looks good and works great. Caps are the most problem makers , but i never new about a diode in the hv unit.
If the screen gets really big it's a dead giveaway that the diode is either bad or has a bad connection on it.
@@LyonsArcade What is it, part of a rectifier? So the DC voltage going to the tube cathode is too high?
another coooool arcade video...gotta love asteroids, especially a rare cocktail version...thank you joe ,you did good on the monitor :) x
Thanks Sas Farmer!
I played that Game back 1980
I'll bet they were everywhere!
you could put a phone on a tripod and facetime the monitor while your working on adjusting the vert/hori it might make it easier
That's a good idea, never thought of that :) You'd be good at fixing these, you've got a mind for problem solving :)
Wish I lived near Joe's - would love to meet him and look over some machines. But the Atlantic pond is kinda in the way....
Maybe someday!
@@LyonsArcade Same for me. There are some arcade museums in the Netherlands, but your shop is bigger with more cabinets than most of them! I'd love to get a fixxer upper for myself to restore to beauty.
cool!
Thank you Tomy Power!
@@LyonsArcade you're welcome!
How nice is this?
Pretty nice :)
There's nowhere to put your quarter to hold your place in line.
Yup... I guess if you were in a bar you'd just have to fight for it, lol. The bezel is very small on these...
very cool, wish you gents shipped
We used to, then someone just called their credit card company and stole the money back. Can’t survive the theft
@@LyonsArcade that sucks, really enjoy your videos and you’ve had a few nicely restored games over the years I’d love to own
Is that just a 'regular' screen in this unit?
The 'Vector Screen' in the other Asteroids video (in the bigger machine) looks different. Or do all Asteroid machines share the same display technique?
i have an asteroids upright. no picture. game plays on an o-scope. re capped deflect board and h/v cage. still no picture. i saw a video about the q901 transistor being bad.what do you think? would like to play this again soon.
thank you. glen
Glen look close at the neck and see if it's glowing, you may just be missing the heater voltage which comes out of the power brick in the bottom.
To get an inmage on the screen you need heater voltage, grid voltage, and high voltage on the anode. The high voltage comes through the high voltage diode on the flyback, the heater voltage comes from the fuses down below and the grid voltage is turned off by the spot killer on the deflection board if the deflection board has problems or it's not getting a good signal . You ruled out your gameboard so that's good, can you hear deflection chatter? If the deflection board is working you will hear a buzzing that changes as the image changes on the screen (even though you can't see it). If the 'spot killer' light is on, on the deflection board it still has problems.
If it's chattering, your problem is probably the high voltage diode isn't making good contact inside the rubber boots it sits in.
What is the name of your friend’s business at the beach that keeps sending these to you for repair ?
It's Players Choice video games in the Myrtle Beach mall, he operates a ton of arcade games in the store.

One of the greatest sound tracks EVER
@@LyonsArcade Im actually picking up an identical cab sides are a bit mauled but i have a secret arcade fix crushed walnut shells (usually used for sand blasting) and wood glue mix the two well sand level it wont show.
1 up's are cheezy made.. clicky buttons LCD blahhhh....
Original cabinets are the only way to play the right way! Sorry
You got that right :)
I've been rediscovering a lot of these old games in emulation... but that can only ever be a distant substitute; it's *not* the same. Particularly for games with original controls that just don't map well onto a standard modern game controller, like Tempest.
It’s Broke
Not for long!
